The North Kaibab Forest is dressing in fall colors for the Autumnal equinox.
I went out into the forest to break in the new tires and check out the fall colors. There’s a lot of dulling down and dropping off. Along with some brilliant golds and tiny splashes of a deep brick-red veined with yellow-green. The sunlight sure causes those aspen to glow no matter what color or season.
Besides a pair of coyotes who never wanted to get close to each other, and the multitude of ravens eating bugs in the meadows probably off the bison poop, I saw two grouse, one doe who crossed the road between myself and another car who also saw her, a hawk, kettling vultures and some bluebirds. Grouse are also called foolhens. I wonder if that has anything to do with them just standing on the side of the road watching you go by.
The Autumnal equinox marks the beginning of fall, a day when day and night are the same length putting the world into balance. Perhaps a good day to put your own world into balance.
A time for harvesting the bounty and preparing for the upcoming winter could also be a time for your inner harvest like looking at all the achievements and experiences felt during the past seasons.
If I didn’t have to be in uniform today I would dress with colored leaves in my hair tying boughs to waist, arms and legs. Then go out in the forest and dance in wild abandon with the aspen to welcome in fall.
