2019 Calendar Printer Glitch

I used Shutterfly for the 2019 calendar as I was happy with the job they did last year.  But when the shipment arrived I discovered a printer glitch on several images per calendar.

2019 calendar coverI’m kind of like a little kid when it comes to getting packages.  I don’t shop online frequently, or shop that much period.  So getting a package is a little like Christmas.  Plus I was excited to see some of my photos in print.  Calendars are the only way I’ve printed photos in a very long time.

printer glitch February 2019 calendarWhen the package arrived on October 1st I excitedly opened it, tore the plastic seal off the top calendar, and was immediately disappointed when I saw a white spot on February’s photo.  As I continued to look through the months this white spot was obviously where ink didn’t print and could be seen on almost every other month in the same location.

three 2019 calendarsAfter opening four calendars, I stopped and sent an email to Shutterfly.  Then waited for their “four hour” response time.  The following day I received an email from them asking for more details to the problem.  I responded with an explanation, five photos taken with my phone to show the problem (these photos), and waited two more days.  Then received the exact same message as before.

printer glitch August 2019 calendarAt this point I was getting frustrated.  I knew they’d make it right, but obviously no English speaking human was reading the emails.  My next email stated that they would either send a new order or I wanted my money back.  The next day they responded that I’d just have to place another order and they would print and ship at no charge.

printer glitch April 2019 calendarShutterfly guarantees “100% Happiness” and although it took several days and emails, they’re coming through with a reprint that should be here by Friday.

printer glitch December 2019 calendarI finally opened all 50 of the calendars and the problem persisted throughout.

So when the new shipment arrives I will begin shipping calendars.  Thanks to those who have ordered so far.

BTW, today marks the beginning of my 11th year blogging!

Order 2019 calendar now

boulders trees last light clouds sunburst Yarnell ArizonaIt was a long haul, and I thank all who helped make the final decisions on photographs for the 2019 calendar.  Although a lot less traveling occurred in the last 12 months than my usual I still got some great shots.  My little town of Yarnell is quite photogenic.   Like the cover shot above, also available for print.

I’m using Shutterfly again and either it’s improved a little or I’m learning what’s possible.  They didn’t offer an option I could find for moon phases so I choose two stickers, a black circle and a black outlined white circle, and added them to the appropriate days.  There’s also no option to print on the back page and I sent them that recommendation.  You might notice a few other changes as well.

12 month collage 2019 calendarOther 12 months

For the most part, Shutterfly offers quite a few options.  If you play with it repeatedly it’s a pretty quick learn.  I worked on this project all weekend.  The images were ready to print.  After several hours of uploading and playing with layout I put it, and me, to bed.  The next day I tweaked a bit here and there.  Then let it sit another day and hit publish on Sunday.  It will probably be a couple weeks before delivery to me.

Full calendar pages July 2019 calendarThis 17 x 11 inch (full size) calendar is printed on heavy cardstock with a matte finish.  Major holidays are noted.  The large squares offer plenty of space to add your own special events.

In order to purchase a calendar please leave a comment (disregard the “FATAL ERROR” message) letting me know how many calendars you’d like at $24 each including shipping in the USA.  I will respond via an email with directions for making a payment.

Thank you for all the encouragement that made this possible.

Help choose the final images 2019 calendar

I took almost 15,000 photos in the last 12 months and struggled to pare that down to about 30 of my absolute favorites for the 2019 calendar. However, a wall calendar only needs 13 images, so I’ve asked for your help.

You know how much I love sunsets, so the last of this group for the year should come as no surprise.

I’m thinking not as many readers are interested this year as the comments to help out have been low.  Or you could be struggling as much as I do with picking favorites.  But maybe you’re just waiting for this final group so you can look at them all.

Go here for the first group.  And here for the second group.

Out of those possibilities there are several in the running for the 2019 calendar.   Numbers 4, 6, 14, 20, and 24 are high on your list.

Most voted for are numbers 3, 5, 8, 10, 15 and 22.  And I need to decide on a cover shot.

I will post the absolute final selection with price next week.  Please help me spread the word.

I’m really hoping to see some new landscapes after this printing is done and start collecting photos for the 2020 calendar.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
