Back and forth between Skull Valley and Quartzsite

On the way to Skull Valley (see previous post) I stopped in Wickenburg to register the new wheeleastate and received a call from Tim. He’d just passed Quartzsite on the way to meet me when the transmission on his bus started to go out. So he headed back to Quartzsite BLM where friends were camped while I continued north.

Almost felt like Christmas, and not just because of colder temperatures.  Thank you all for filling my Amazon wish list. I am overwhelmed with gratitude.  Thankfully, the 5th-wheel kitchen was well stocked.  Still a lot of fun wants but immediate needs were met.

Izzy, from the caravan, arrived the next day to help me sort, pack, and clean.  I decided to sell the 5th-wheel as I no longer need two RVs.

So while Izzy scrubbed, I made piles: keep, trash, and sell or give away.  There for a week and only made a small dent in it all.  Not easy to move from 36 feet with three slides (300 sq ft), after 12 years of living, into 20 feet (100 sq ft). Back and forth, pile to pile, until the trash pile exceeded all others.  $25 at the dump when I usually pay $2 for up to three bags.

With cooler temperatures approaching, we headed downhill to Congress for a couple nights.

Plus we set up roadside, along with others, and sold a bunch of stuff. Made enough to go out for a nice dinner at Nickels West.

Then we high-tailed back to the caravan camp near Quartzsite to attend a Halloween party at the Lit Cactus.

After a few days in camp and work on my new wheeleastate, we went back to Congress on the way to Skull Valley once again.

This time my intent was to prepare the 5th-wheel to roll.  Driving three hours each way just didn’t make sense.

Of course my current rig won’t tow it. However a friend in Quartzsite could, and did.  Bye-bye Skull Valley, it’s been nice.  Life rolls on.  Seemed it would be more convenient and easy to sell in a town full of RVers like Quartzsite.

But first I had to completely empty and clean it.  Have I ever mentioned I hate housework?

I’m still operating on my phone with no laptop, however that’s another story.

Moving on to new wheeleastate

After hanging out in Pahrump Nevada a couple weeks we (I’m traveling by bus with Tim) rolled to Yucaipa California to look at a shuttle bus for possible new wheeleastate.

I really liked the look with so many windows to bring in the light and views. Sadly, the transmission was bad so a no go.

Without the correct filters I didn’t really watch the eclipse but did see some tree crescents.

From California it was a hot drive to Yuma where Tim’s bus could be parked while we drove Joann’s minivan to Tucson for another possibility of new wheeleastate.

This “vantruck” was perfect and before you know it, I owned it.

What is called a “no build” build (not bolted down) has a queen size bed, small fridge with ice cream bar sized freezer, compost toilet, a couple of old dressers, 400 watts of solar on the roof and all things to make power including a 200 amp hour lithium battery.

Getting late in the day, Tim drove the new wheeleastate and I followed west on Interstate 8 to a favorite BLM camp along Freeman Road.

The almost new, over hard, memory foam bed was brutally impossible to sleep on.  Have a topper coming that will hopefully solve that problem (thanks to Slim who bought that from my Amazon wishlist. *More on that coming.)

The next morning I drove my new wheeleastate back to Yuma where I spent the night at Joann’s. No AC means window open with a Sahara blast in the face.  Temps were triple digit.

And so the following day I headed north to a cooler Skull Valley to stock my new wheeleastate.  Tim would be about an hour behind me. He would be working on the many little things needing repairs while I moved goods from the 5th-wheel. However…

I’m still writing on my phone so this is wonky.

*I made an Amazon wishlist and posted it on my Facebook page.  Somehow I hit a “surprise me” button so had no idea who was buying what or when it would be shipped. The response was overwhelming and the entire list was filled.  Thanks to all ❣️

Over some humps to Pahrump

Thank you for all the heartfelt thoughts and aide after the fire loss of all things, most precious to me Sierra. I’m still traveling in the comfortable embrace of amazing caravan tribe though currently boondocking near Pahrump at the edge of MOAN Nevada.  Working on my phone which is a struggle.

Remains of truckcamper

Several days after the fire, Hannah’s caravan left Mill Creek continuing slowly southward following the most agreeable weather.

Shopping at Walmart
Sunset Indian Lake

After a shopping stop in Tonopah we all met at Indian Lakes and enjoyed a couple days bird watching.  I was jumping through insurance hoops and praying for a quick resolve.  Really should have known better.

Another jump south found us north of Goldfield where some stayed at a nice rest area before continuing to Pahrump and others wanted to soak at the Alkali Flats hot spring.

We regrouped for an excellent breakfast in historic Goldfield and explored the town.

International Car Forest

Then the hot springs group made it a day by touring the International Car Forest.

Full moon Alkali Flats
Fueled up

After several days of soaking and seeing wild horses we moved on to Pahrump with a stop in Beatty for a candy stock up.

East view from Pahrump camp

Using a friend’s mail box service I received a new debit card, still waiting for replacement driver’s license.  Also looking online for replacement wheeleastate.

Will try to update again soon.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…

My wheeleastate

I am currently…

…boondocking somewhere in southern Arizona.  In the area, give a shout.
