Last week I wrote about the power going off. Turned out that a freak storm with high winds, that I watched but didn’t really experience, knocked down 16 electric poles just north of Wickenburg in my county of Yavapai. Power was restored by Sunday morning after about 36 hours. Sure glad to have the truckcamper so I didn’t loose any food and solar kept my phone and laptop charged.
Then the storms cleared like monsoon was over and the temperatures went back up into the mid-90s. Even with AC on I lacked ambition.

The trail cam has picked up a roadrunner, several javelina, and some racoons. I haven’t yet downloaded any of those pics from the cam’s SD card. Been feeling lazy.
The only moon shot I got this month and it’s not yet full
But that lazy will change real soon with the plans I’m making for a week in Illinois to attend my 50th class reunion (link to the 40th). Those activities include gatherings Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Plus I’ll be visiting with some other folks I haven’t seen in about that long. Cousin Judy from Michigan and I are going to meet at the Indian Dunes National Park. That’s about a 1 1/2 hour drive for each of us. I haven’t been to the dunes since Girl Scouts, before it was a national park.
Then I hear from Elspeth, whose mother was our Girl Scout leader in Downers Grove. She’ll be at the reunion and we’ll meet again at the nearby Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie where she used to work.
Feeling all nostalgic, I spent an evening watching The African Queen. And although I long to return, that’s not the journey I have in mind.
Saturday, Joann stopped by for some final directions from Sierra. The only reason I’m able to make this trip to Illinois is because Joann volunteered to stay at my house, and Sierra approved the arrangement.
I am excited! And by the time you read this post I should be flying out of Arizona. Hopefully the next posts will be about more than life on the ranch, watching out the windows, and staying inside because of the bugs.
Glad that you sorted out looking after Sierra. Have a good trip. We are on the road tomorrow at sparrow only home on the 24th. If we go quiet you know why. Take care hugs Diane and Nigel
Have a safe trip.
Those high temps always zap my ambition! Beautiful clouds. Hope your trip was easy and that you’re having a wonderful reunion.
Thanks. Temps in IL comparable with AZ, including humidity. Spent first day whipped out. Today it starts.
I’m sooo happy you are tripping and celebrating 50+. Say hi to IL before I get there. I loved seeing your alcove with Sierra and sensational amethyst, rainbow mountain and panorama. I’m also liking to hear lazy. From you, and all our hard works, things happen when lazy-ing. Lastly, LOVE your excitement.
Hi from IL where it is comparably the same temperature and sticky humidity as home. You really need to come by my big house and see all the lovely rocks.
I came back to the farm to find that the power had been out for 3 days. SO glad to have solar.
Sounds like two great side trips on the reunion plan. Is it Indiana Dunes?? I’ve not been there but it’s on my list. I’ve only been to Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan. BIG hard to climb sand dunes. Seems strange places for them. We went to a National Tall Grass Prairie but I don’t think it was called Midewin. Looking forward to great pictures from all 3 of your stops.
Hope you didn’t have any freezers full with a power outage. Yes, Indiana Dunes and don’t plan to climb. They are at the southern tip of Lake Michigan so were formed from the glaciers.
Happy for you and thank you goes out to your friend, Joann, for helping you get outta town! (Thank you also to Miss Sierra for being tolerant of your absence – meow!) WOW! 16 downed electric poles from the wind!! With that damage glad they were able to get power back on in 36 hours! African Queen – I have it on DVD and enjoy watching it movie every now and then. PRICELESS FB steal – love it. Look forward to hearing of your adventures! Enjoy!!
In IL and finally recovered from flight.
I hope you have a great time!!
