This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including South Africa, Grand Canyon, and Pacific Northwest salmon.
Cathy chose #0281. A male giraffe in Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa.
Jo chose #2013. Brilliant red Paintbrush growing along the Arizona Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Diane and Nigel chose #209, a panorama. Rangers get paid in sunsets, especially when roving on the Bright Angel Point trail before an evening program at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Rita chose #4101. Adam and Eve, the oldest couple at Cango Ostrich Farm, South Africa. Adam is laying down while Eve watches the two chicks. This is where I rode an ostrich, and it’s not easy.
Gypsy chose #117. Museum display when I worked at Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado the summer of 2005.
Sallie and Bill chose #246. This tunnel means almost to the top of Grand Canyon’s South Rim on the Bright Angel trail. My first rim to rim in 2008.
Jodee and Bill chose #3011. A lovely courtyard at TeTeMuka B&B where I stayed in Kokstad, South Africa.
Sherry chose #9422. How very appropriate for this waterfall lover. Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.
Barb chose #6600, the price of her new AC unit. Ouch, but in Florida you just HAVE to have AC. And you don’t see snow, like this RV window view at sunset over the cemetery in Kanab, Utah.
My choices from September 1996 when I worked for US Fish & Wildlife. My government house looked across the Columbia River to Mt Hood in the far distance and sat just above Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery (NFH). My office was along the Little White Salmon River and NFH.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Hi Gaelyn, Lovely selection of photo’s this week Love the Grand Canyon ones as you know especially the one of the Bright Angel Point Trail on the North Rim. Fav this week is the Museum display at the Mesa Verda National Park Colorado. Have a wonderful weekend. No 1302 for next week please.
Thanks. I figured you’d really like the Ancestral Puebloan pottery. #1302 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, YAY, I can comment ! Thank you for the wonderful shares. I love the paintbrushes in my choice. We had snow two weeks ago; today (spring) we could use AC! As a Royalist, mourning an icon who has always been “there”, I’d like 1926 please. Have a great week. Jo
Thanks and glad you could comment. You into spring as us into fall.
I too mourn the loss of Elizabeth as does the world. She lead such a rich life setting an example for women everywhere.
#1926 for next week.
What is the photo of between the tram and river? I tried to make out a fish, but doesn’t seem. I love seeing what your choices are at ends. And this time, the trail tunnel and Mt Hood. #817 next please Gaelyn. That is date gravitational waves were detected of two neutron stars colliding. Starry night:)
Not sure, Columbia River pics from my yard, then below Spring Creek Fish Hatchery. Yes, it’s two salmon in Little White Salmon River. Very old prints that were scanned and digitized don’t always come out very good but still hold the memories. #817 for next week.
Gotta love a set that starts with a cute giraffe! Love that you had a little courtyard to enjoy in Africa 🙂 Those waterfalls are incredible – beautiful!!
4434 for next week please
Thanks. I like waterfalls anywhere, and see so few in AZ, but Augrabies was deafeningly marvelous. #4434 for next week.
Difficult as always to choose a favourite but it is split between Our photo, the tunnel at the South Rim and Augrabies Falls. It took me while to work out that was a salmon in the river, at first quick glance I thought it was a platypus 😊 but decided that you have not been to Australia!!
Have a fab weekend, hope the bugs do not bite.
Hugs Diane and Nigel.
909 for next week please
Thanks. When I took that picture of the salmon I was shocked it came out at all, then the print was scanned which certainly didn’t help the quality. Sadly, I haven’t been to Australia, yet. #909 for next week.
The Giraffe and so are those South African waterfalls! Very scenic office you had along the Little White Salmon River. Have a good week. Bet you are getting more excited for your Reunion trip! Next time #0610
Thanks, everything in South Africa was awesome. Leave late Tuesday for a full week in Illinois and I am excited. #0610 for next week.
I love the piece of the panorama of the canyon. The sunset shot at Kanab over the cemetery looks so darn lonely and cold. I love your shots of view from your house at the fishery. But I love all your shots.
4376 for next week from random.org.
Thanks, I love to take panos. It was cold in Kanab, but also quiet living by the cemetery. 😉 #4376 for next week.
Love that wonderful giraffe picture and what a fantastic waterfall. I’ve seen tons of waterfalls this summer but nothing of that magnitude. Amazing! Bet it roars!! LOL at “Adam and Eve” and can’t imagine riding them. I’ll try 1020 for next week.
Thanks. Augrabies Falls means sounds like thunder and when I was there it was at a high flow. #1020 for this week.
Thanks for the tunnel …I depend on your pictures for seeing trails to beautiful views like this that we didn’t take when we could and now we couldn’t. … loved the sunset “stroll” while you were working and the giraffe and the Fish and Wildlife pano closer to home
You’re welcome. I love to watch videos of hikes I’ll never get to do now. So glad I hiked the canyon when I could.
Just spent 2-weeks in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge and woke up to the view of Mt. Hood from my bed every morning and did my evening read facing the mountain framed by Oregon White Oaks off the cabin deck.
Before the sun rises over the east end of the Gorge, you know it is near on the rise because it lights up the top pf Mt. Hood first. Usually gives the mountain a pink cap as the birds break into first light chatter with the coming day.
That Stern-wheeler in one of the Gorge pics was built in the early 80’s by a small, but talented fabrication company at the mouth of Hood River. Today there are many cruise ships plying the river clear up to Lewiston/Clarkson in Idaho by way of the Snake River. Part of this scenic cruise(Lewis & Clark’s route to the Pacific) through a major mountain range at near sea level, could end if they remove the dams on the Snake River. You get to see a lot of the Gorge in the cruise company advertisements including a pic of The Farm.
Well… we have entered another devastating fire season here in Southern Oregon with five fires just south of us and a big one near Eugene which is dropping ash on the town. We can barely see the hills just a quarter mile a way. Reminds me of being in Yellowstone in 88′ when officials rushed in and we were told to leave the park immediately while at the Old Faithful lodge. Seemed like a war zone there and and now here,
The mills around here are running out of room to deck burned logs and the logging outfits are still harvesting trees burned 5-to 6 years ago. So devastating to see big naked patches on the hills and burned standing dead trees, and truck load after truck load of burned logs on the highway and only somewhat compensated by truck load after truck load of new Tesla’s heading north.
2035# for next week, The year California and Washington State ban the sales of new ICE* vehicles. It needs to be sooner and will likely be amended to 2030 as the climate conditions rapidly escalate to near unbearable states. Next year Chevrolet will put into production its new CUV EV and at about $30,000 it will cost with incentives under $20,000 in Oregon and near $20,000 in other states
*ICE > Internal Combustion Engines.
I thought you’d like those old shots of the Gorge. Breaks my heart thinking of the loss of these forests, especially knowing we humans are somewhat to blame. #2035 for this week.
When was it Friday, again? Yikes.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos. #6573
Thanks. The week sure do fly by when retired. #6573 for this week.
