Storms came and went, temperatures rose, and the bugs haven’t left so I’m still not spending much time outdoors. It’s been a slow week.
Not really much to share. Finally got a much needed haircut at my Yarnell hairdresser. If she ever retires I’m screwed. Of course it had been close to a year since the last cut. That’s how good she is. Guess that’s not supporting her business much is it?
I’ve been feeling lazy but labeled over 500 photos and still over a year behind. Haven’t been taking many photos, especially with the Nikon, since the monsoon clouds are gone. The daily roadrunner is usually to fast for me, though I believe the trail cam caught it.
When the light is right I quickly go out for a few shots before the mosquitoes chase me back inside.
A few oak leaves turned to Fall but guess the bugs didn’t get the message during days still in the 90s.
Wednesday afternoon I turned the camper fridge on in preparation for the next day’s run to town and overnight visit with a friend.
Not much traffic through my gate
After a stop at the local dump I worked my way across Prescot and Prescott Valley headed east to Dewey. My recent new glasses were just not right so dropped them off for new lenses. Wearing old glasses is a pain but better than nothing.
Bought three pieces, had the boots and belt, sadly the hat won’t go, will add bold turquoise jewelry
Stopped at several thrift stores in search of an outfit for the evening functions at my upcoming class reunion. Which one to wear, 1-5?
Enjoyed a wonderful visit with a North Rim friend and we talked and laughed until after midnight, way past our bedtimes. On the way home the next day I had a propane tank recertified and filled plus picked up groceries. So I unpacked in the heat of afternoon and just before it rained.
That evening a huge dark storm circled around my little valley dropping only a little rain. But the lightning show to the south was amazing and I heard from friends the wind was brutal. Power went off about 6:30pm. I wasn’t too worried as I still operated on 12volt for lights and propane for cooking. Word was it would be back on around midnight, and I was sound asleep before that.
However, still no power Saturday morning and not expected on until late afternoon or possibly evening. So I ferried everything out of the household electric fridge in the 5th-wheel to the propane fridge in the camper. Then I moved Sierra and I to the camper where I could continue to charge my phone and laptop off the solar system. It got warm inside but tolerable with windows open and 12 volt fan. If it hadn’t been Labor Day weekend, I would have driven to higher elevation, but I don’t travel on holidays. It cooled into the mid-60s and after ice cream for desert, we slept fine in the camper that night.
I pick #3 or 4. Might need the sweater or not. It’ll look good with your turquoise jewelery. Was that a trail cam picture of you? I liked it.
Good haircut – mine, not so much. Had my son give it a go. His first attempt at cutting someone else’s hair. It’s not bad, but too short. Hair shrinks when it dries. I guess once it grows out I’ll be chopping at it again. Never found a good hairdresser. They don’t listen to what I tell them.
I’m leaning towards your choices as well, versatile and most important comfortable. The pic of me against the clouds is a thumbnail from a phone video, but that is the direction the trail cam points also. I haven’t emptied the SD card in a week. Thanks, I’m back to my happy haircut. I used to cut my husband and sons’s hair but not my own. Have to use a razor for shaping as my hair has no body. Thank goodness I still have lots of hair.
Great post Gaelyn and wonderful photo’s I like all your outfits, don’t think you need a hat at all
Thanks.
Nice to have a backup house when you need it. Friends Nickie and Jimmy do that when the power gets shut down in their Nevada City house for fire danger shut downs. Such a pain for them. At least they have their moho to retreat to if needed, as Mo and I do in Grants Pass. We have been lucky, no extended power outages either at home or on the road so far this summer. Outfits? the boots ones are cute…I probably wouldn’t do them, but the last one looks a bit subdued for your style. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
Agree, I’ve even had guests in the backup house when power went down in S&Bs. I like all the combinations, with boots because I’m a boot kinda gal. And don’t own any fancy shoes.
We don’t travel on holidays, either!
You look great! Nothing like new clothes and a new haircut!
Thanks. I haven’t dressed up since… maybe the last reunion.
I can’t think of a place where it requires dress up these days. We just don’t do indoors.
Well it’s not like I’m dressing for prom, or homecoming which is the same weekend as the reunion.
Great pictures of the clouds! We are finally out of the clouds and rain as we head west.
You look good in all those outfits. I’m not a good judge, I always wear cargo pants.
Thanks for the nice compliment, as the only man commenting here so far. I think all the outfits are fun, and I dress for me.
I like 3 and 4 and add your turquoise accents. It’ll be totally you! 5 is too serious. Always good to get a haircut from your favorite hairdresser. You are getting lots of monsoon activity – even a cactus peeping up through the cow guard. Good to hear “my” Roadrunner is still zipping about!
Thanks, my favorites too, especially with jewelry. “Your” roadrunner is almost a daily visitor. Lots of lizards around. Wondered if anybody would notice the cactus.
Greetings from the area where you visited your friend and shopped! Yes, agree with #s 3 and 4. How wonderful you have power grid “redundancies” to keep you and Sierra in some comfort. That is a bonus of the RVing life!
Guess next time I head that way I should give you a heads up and we might finally meet. I too am going with those outfit choices. I do love RV life.
That would be nice, Gaelyn. Quick question, while you were a ranger at the GCNR, did you ever meet Eric Gueissaz and his wife Susie? Just curious:

Other than the recent article about Eric, names don’t sound familiar.
You are way ahead of the curve on solar and alternative power. Good thing you had the fridge in the camper.
I love that hat, too bad you can’t take it.
My 50th is next year. I would like to go but I don’t know if I’d remember anybody.
If you boondock camp like I do, solar is the way to go. No thanks to a noisy generator. The hat would be a pain to travel with, but I love it. When I went to the 40th I barely knew a soul, now I know more of them because of FB. You should go.
I like #1&2, shows more boot and I always like hats. Let me know if you want to try a new one and I’ll send pics. One has a peacock feather. Yeah our power was out two days and nights but neighbors pulled together to share generator so my food saved. A friend counted 20 wood and metal poles down/bent on 93 between U-Haul and Burg. In your photo under the oak leaves, it looks like some man/woman-made steps. I’ve been putting on bug repellant for increase, but if inside and leave door open, the biting knats come right through my place’s security screen, so I close up at night darn it.
Thanks. #1 & 2 were my first idea as a mini idea like we wore in the 70s, but I’m leaning towards adding the skirt. I’ll have all the parts with me. I love the boots and don’t have any other semi-dressy shoes. I have SO many hats, but they are a pain to travel with. Sure glad you had a helpful neighbor for the blackout. I added some steps to make it easier to climb the berm. I HATE those biting bugs, so my house is usually closed with AC running, yuck.
Love the sky shots and 3 and 4 are the best to choose from methinks. No electricity is an absolute pain but at least you have a backup.
Keep well, hugs Diane
Thanks. I too am leaning towards those outfit choices. When set up with solar no need to worry about the grid.
Fun visit with your friend — glad you had an alternate for when your electricity went off. — I like number 4 for you! With the sweater only if it is for some reason its cold where your reunion is. Just definitely not the last one — that doesn’t look like you at all.
Nice to have an RV in the yard when the power goes down.
