It’s rare for me to see water in the wash I live next to in Yarnell, Arizona. I’m not here during summer monsoons. And try not to be here when snow may be melting.
But after a couple days of pretty steady rain the sun poked through for just a bit and I saw sparkle on the water.
Just couldn’t resist taking photos.
In Arizona water is so precious and as long as it doesn’t fall too hard too fast too long and gets a chance to soak into the ground, it is a special gift.
I’d be one to complain with too many days of excessive rain, like when living in the Pacific Northwest. But after living in the arid Southwest for a while I’ve learned to like it, no love it, and especially relish monsoons. Sure beats snow.
I like these wet photos, Gaelyn. The rain gave you a little stream for awhile.
Was so nice to see a bit of water in the wash. After two days of sun it is now only moist.
Moisture in the desert is certainly appreciated. It seems to have done the plants good; green is popping out everywhere.
Should be great for spring flowers.
As a kid I always loved he smell in the desert just before the rain came.
Rain brings life to the desert.
I love your “wet pictures” too. Especially the one on the right just before the hidden mountains. I remember well when we were dependent on our garden for about 80% of our food how we longed for rain and could smell it coming. Seeing water in the wash seems like a nice bonus for returning to Yarnell.
So much better to see rain bringing water to the wash than snow. It’s been beautiful but I’m just about ready for another desert fix.
With our latest rain, even the mountains have a green hue.
Can’t wait to return to the desert to see that.
Your photos’ pull me into the action so immediately, I got cold and put the heater on!!
Amazing!
Berta
Thanks Berta. It wasn’t even cold out. 😉
Water truly changes everything in a dry area like this. Same in South Africa’s Karoo and Kalahari
Very true. I experienced the results of rain in the Kalahari, was amazing.
Yes for sure rain is different when you live in the SW. It is good to have spent time in both kinds of areas — otherwise you can’t really understand the difference.
You really do have to experience the desert to get it. You are lucky to enjoy many types of environments.
Water is such a precious commodity in places like that and I love to see pictures of it.
Flowing water in this arid land is a special gift, as long as there’s no flooding.
You take really, really special photos, Gaelyn!
I too so love it when it rains here in AZ, and it is like a precious gift when it comes. In fact I never really appreciated rain until I started living here.
Thanks Cindy. In the midwest I just lived with the rain but in the desert it does feel like a gift.
