Foto Friday Fun 26

Thank you for joining in last week and sending in your favorite photo.  This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 7 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Very heavy on Grand Canyon images this week.  Guess that’s a good thing because I only have 3 weeks left to my season, unless there’s a government shut down and then I’m finished September 30th.

Paria River near Lees Ferry Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Arizona
Paria River near Lees Ferry Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Arizona 5/8/13

Yogi chose #101 and I know he likes to run along a river near his home so think he’ll like the Paria River near Lees Ferry. Of course the trail along here might be a little difficult to run on.

Colorado River view SE from Point Sublime North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
Colorado River view SE from Point Sublime North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona 5/30/13

MaryBeth chose #1010, “just because.”  Well just because I could I camped at Point Sublime and got to watch the light change in Grand Canyon from morning to dark.

Giant Kingfisher Kruger National Park South Africa
Giant Kingfisher Kruger National Park South Africa 2/6/13

Sherry chose #605, “the house number they put on the farm after they took away my great RR2 Box.”  I don’t think this Giant Kingfisher seen at Kruger National Park in South Africa worries about a house address as much as where its next meal will come from.

Classic cars at North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
Classic cars at North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona 7/25/13

Diane chose #912, “Not only the new number plate of our car but a Porsche model as well.”  I know she likes classics and although I didn’t see any Porsches with this group I do see classic car clubs several times each summer at Grand Canyon.

Full moon rise over Walhalla Plateau from BAP trailhead North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
Full moon rise over Walhalla Plateau from BAP trailhead North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona 6/22/13

Sallie chose #500, “Along with a tree-named street, it was actually our first street number after we were married (and the hot upstairs apartment was not as nice as the number sounds!).”  I at least hope from the top floor you could watch the moon.  I had to go out onto the Bright Angel Trail for this shot of moon rise over the Walhalla Plateau at Grand Canyon.

Curly Creek Falls Gifford Pinchot National Forest Washington
Curly Creek Falls Gifford Pinchot National Forest Washington Summer 2001

Bibi chose #19, “since oh, gosh, I forgot my daughter’s anniversary, which was the 19th.”  I think she missed a window of opportunity.  But nothing like this rock window over Curly Creek Falls above the Lewis River in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest near where I worked at Eagles Cliff General Store way back when.

Sunset over Weaver Mountains Yarnell Arizona
Sunset over Weaver Mountains Yarnell Arizona 12/4/12

Elaine chose #111 which takes me back to enjoy a Yarnell sunset.  Won’t be long and I’ll be watching those again.

Watson Lake Prescott Arizona
Watson Lake Prescott Arizona 9/18/13

My choice this week of Watson Lake was taken along the drive from Yarnell to the canyon in Prescott, Arizona.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 12 and 1200 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 25

This week’s Foto Friday Fun was open to several options.  Readers could either send me one of their favorite photos with a story or link to their story, or choose a number from 94 to 104.  Three people sent a photo and three chose a number.  Nice balance.

La Rochefoucauld Chateau Reflection

From Diane blogs at http://lifeincharente.blogspot.com, http://aboutmebeforecharente.blogspot.com, and http://photodiarydps.blogspot.com sharing photos and stories from her life’s travels from the past and present.  “My favorite photo of this year is the reflection of Rochefoucauld Chateau in the River Tardoire with the old bridge in the back ground.

 La Rochefoucauld Chateau

“The chateau originally dating from the 11th century stands on the edge of La Rochefoucauld. It was modified many times in the following centuries to become the impressive renaissance monument we see today where the family still live in part of it.  The arched bridge across the river Tardoire below the castle dates from the 15th century.”

Thrift store cut-glass stemware with Kaluha Yarnell Arizona
2/6/12

Bibi chose #100 because it, “Reminds me of those $1.00 shops.”  I believe she’ll appreciate my $1.00 cut-glass stemware from a thrift store complete with Kaluha.  And although I can barely believe it I made it into two thrift stores last week and didn’t buy anything.

Frankfurt Germany
3/2/10

Sherry chose #94 which takes me back to Frankfurt, Germany in 2010.  A fellow Couch Surfer showed me around her city during a seven hour walking tour.  We had a lot of fun and I learned about the city’s history.

Sunrise Toroweap camp Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
10/3/12

Jo chose #102, one of my favorite places at Grand Canyon.  Toroweap is exceedingly remote and offers an iconic view 3000 feet (914 m) straight down into the Colorado River.  It’s such a long drive it’s most practical to camp there to enjoy amazing sunrises, like this, and sunsets.

rodeo cow girl rider

MaryBeth sent this amazing shot and shares a story.  “I just love this pic of Kylee on my horse Ambush.  Kylee is either running barrels or running poles and she just goes all out.  Love the flying hair.  Kylee is 19 now and this shot was taken about 5 years ago.  She still races and still goes full bore.  Sadly Ambush has gone to greener pastures.  She was a great gal.”

Black-bellied Whistling ducks San Benito Texas
4/11/11

Elaine chose #97, Black-bellied Whistling ducks that I saw where my Mom used to live in San Benito, Texas.

Creamer's Dairy Alaska

Then she also sent in a favorite photo from a recent post about Creamers Dairy.

Burnt yard comparison Yarnell Arizona
7/11/13 and 9/12/13

My choice this week shows how much growth has come up in Yarnell just over two months since the Yarnell fire.  Looks like I’ll have some weeds to cut down when I return in October.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories.  Plus it was fun to have readers share their favorite photos as well.  I’ll do that again.  If you’d like to join in next week leave a number between 10 and 1010 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 24

This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 8 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  All but one from Arizona travels.

Sunset from Grand Lodge North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
Sunset from Grand Lodge North Rim Grand Canyon National Park AZ 9/1/12

Yogi choose #31, “a prime number and I love those.”  Sunsets are always prime at Grand Canyon.

Fall aspen colors at Walhalla overlook North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona
Fall aspen colors at Walhalla overlook North Rim Grand Canyon National Park AZ 10/8/12

Bibi chose #444 as “Very often when I look at the clock it is 4:44.”  I guess I don’t pay attention to time, except when I’m on a work schedule.  But fall is time for the quaking aspen to put on their spectacular show.

View from Wagner Road West Arizona
View from Wagner Road looking west AZ 12/17/11

Sherry chose #365 because it sounds like a good number.  I love a good long distance view like this one of the Weaver Mountains from Wagner Road in Arizona.

Saguaros along SR74 East AZ
Saguaros along SR74 East AZ 3/9/12

Stewart chose #195, “because you stopped your old blog on 19th May and that’s my Birthday!”  I started the new blog on March 26th, my birthday.  And this shot near Lake Pleasant was taken in early March.

Fall color SR67 North Kaibab National Forest Arizona
Fall color SR67 North Kaibab National Forest AZ 9/21/12

Diane chose #653, “I will go Porsche model 356 backwards this time.”  This would be a fun highway to cruise a Porsche along, especially during fall.

Canyon view East from East Rim trail Kaibab National Forest Arizona
Canyon view East from East Rim trail Kaibab National Forest AZ 6/7/13

MaryBeth chose #222, “supposed to be good luck when the clock shows 2:22.  Who knows.”  I felt lucky to get this distant view of the Colorado River carved Marble Canyon and way beyond to Navajo Mountain almost 100 miles away.

Giraffes Kruger National Park South Africa
Giraffes Kruger National Park South Africa 2/5/13

Jo chose #399 for not particular reason.  I am sure she’s seen this type of giraffe behavior as I did in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Grand Falls Little Colorado River Navajo Reservation Arizona
Grand Falls Little Colorado River Navajo Reservation AZ 8/1/13

Elaine chose #114.  The Grand Falls of the Little Colorado are appropriately called the Chocolate Falls.

Hummingbird moth Congress Arizona
Hummingbird moth Congress AZ 9/10/13

My selection this week is the first Hummingbird Moth I’ve ever seen and this is the best shot as it was so flighty.  I’ve been staying a few days with a friend in the desert of Congress, Arizona while visiting various doctors and getting a battery of tests.  Seems I have gall stones (hope that’s not TMI).  Western medicine would immediately, well after waiting for an appointment, suggest surgical removal of the gall bladder.  I reason that surgery is the last choice so am doing a liver/gall bladder cleanse over 3-4 days.  Not fun to be sick so hoping for the best.  Have a great weekend.

For next week I’m changing it up.  Maybe you have a favorite photo you’d like to share for Foto Friday Fun 25.  Yea, I made it that long.  A couple options here:  Share a favorite photo, and at least a short story to go with it by:

A)  emailing the photo and story to Geogypsy and I will post on this blog with appropriate link

B)  email a link from your blog that includes the photo and story to Geogypsy and I’ll include it on this blog

C)  choose a number between 94 and 104 for me to post

D) all of the above

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories.  Do you have a favorite from this week?

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
