Foto Friday Fun 78

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 5 images chosen by readers from my photo archives.  Our meme number for this week is 1500 as last week marked my 1500th post.  Please join in with your own post and link below with a #1500 photo from your archives.  And check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.

Plateau Point Trail Grand Canyon National Park Arizona My #1500 photo for this week is the view across canyon towards the North Rim from Plateau Point trail.  During my second rim to rim Grand Canyon hike in 2009 with fellow Rangers we hiked to this point from our Indian Garden camp for sunset.

Rainbow over canyon North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaThe Guy chose #6473 which is only one of three images from a panorama taken in August from the North Rim.  You can see the entire photo, and a few others, at the post Wonderful skies at Grand Canyon.

Corn fields along SR6 east of Utica IllinoisDiane chose #1550.  When visiting my childhood haunts during a high school class reunion a few years ago I had to drive further west to see farmlands that used to stretch forever across the grain belt of Illinois.

Spirit Lake Mount St Helens National Volcanic Monument Gifford Pinchot National Forest WashingtonSherry chose #07 which takes us back to 1992 where I began my Ranger career at Mt St Helens.  Spirit Lake recovery occurred so rapidly even scientists were dismayed when fish returned only five years after the 1980 eruption.  I felt honored to see daily regrowth in the ‘blast zone’ and know which way the wind blew by the pile up of dead trees in Spirit Lake.

AIR Sue Britt's colored paper and art at demo North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaYogi chose #6825, “courtesy of Random.org.”  I’m really laughing over this because it gave me the same number when I checked out the site.  However, I’m sure you’ll never see anything the same as the dimensional paper tapestries created by Sue Britt, the North Rim’s Artist in Residence during August 2014.  Her paper selections are reminiscent of an exclusive fabric store and she weaves their colors to form an Art telling story.

Raft Naked it adds color to your cheeks on T-shirt Zion National Park UtahElaine chose #1878 which brings yet another laugh and memory of walking the River trail at Zion National Park with Pat in early June.  I asked this stranger if he had to raft standing up but he didn’t get it.

Sunset light on temples North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

AIR Stewart Thomson's program & art North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaMy (second) choice this week taken last Thursday from the Grand Lodge after attending another Artist in Residence’s program.  Stewart Thomson creates custom jewelry from the inspiration of images.  So I also share a photo of one of his pendant inspirations showing an Australian Boulder Opal framed in gold.  Think I’ll start look at rocks with a new eye.

Please share your own #1500 photo and story by adding your link below and linking back to Foto Friday Fun 78.  You can also leave a number between 01 and 9990 in a comment for next week’s Foto Friday Fun.  First commenter will chose next week’s photo index number.

Foto Friday Fun 77

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives.  Our meme number for this week is 2458.  Please join in with a post and link below with a #2458 photo from your archives.  And check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.

Sky Island and canyon Walhalla Plateau North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Sky Island and canyon view Walhalla Plateau North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaYogi used random.org to choose this week’s 2458 number.  In my photo index that’s just one of seven images for a panorama of Sky Island seen near the Walhalla overlook during a hike this summer.  So you get a twofer.  I remember when I used to have to tape together panorama prints and they went on the refrigerator door.  Did you ever do that?

Purple-crested Turaco Pretoriuskop camp Kruger National Park South AfricaSherry chose #4892 and writes “This is like playing the lottery only less expensive and more fun.”  I don’t buy lottery tickets but it sure was a gamble taking photos of this Purple-crested Turaco roosting high above camp.  And although I struggle to photograph birds I did get quite a few more birds in Kruger National Park.

Collared lioness by road Addo Elephant National Park South AfricaElaine chose #7911, a sleeping beauty seen along the road in Addo Elephant National Park South Africa.

Setting up telescopes Lodge veranda Star Party North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaDiane chose #2221 which brings us to setting up a telescope for the week long 2014 Grand Canyon Star Party.  This annual mid-June event includes about a dozen scopes on the Lodge veranda and volunteer amateur astronomists from Tucson share the night sky with visitors.

Egret Mankwe Dam Pilanesberg Game Reserve South AfricaSallie chose #9991, “because probably I am last to choose.”  She wasn’t the last to choose but did take the highest number to choose from.  And was getting pretty close to the end of this year’s journey in South Africa with an egret fishing along the shores of Mankwe Dam in Pilanesberg Game Reserve.

Zebra from underground birdhide Addo Elephant National Park South AfricaJonker chose #7531 a “ Random number cause that’s how I roll.”  Sometimes he rolls up the road from where he lives to Addo Elephant National Park where I’m sure he’s seen zebras.  But I wonder if he’s seen them from the underground bird hide accessible from the main camp.  Sure was a great place to see them up close.

Uncle Sam spraying Forever Resort truck and train 4th of July parade North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaBibi chose #3333 for “Absolutely no reason.”  4th of July gives us at the North Rim a reason to have a water parade.  Uncle Sam had a wonderful time spraying every one who got within reach of his hose.

Dark-eyed Junco Lodge veranda North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaSomething a little different than Grand landscapes, my choice for this week of a Dark-eyed Junco checking out some scraps on the lodge veranda.  I see these flitting on the ground everywhere but can rarely get a photo.

Please share your own #2458 photo and story by adding your link below and linking back to Foto Friday Fun 77.  You can also leave a number between 01 and 9990 in a comment for next week’s Foto Friday Fun.  And in order to give you a head start for next week I’m choosing #1500 because this is my 1500th post since October 8, 2008.

Foto Friday Fun 76

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 6 images chosen by readers from my photo archives.  Our meme number for this week is 3776, chosen by the first commenter last week.  Please join in with a post and link below with a #3776 photo from your archives.  And check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.

Green Heron Sunset dam Kruger National Park South AfricaYogi chose #3776, “It is not a prime number obviously but I will go with it anyway.”  His choice from Random dot Org will be this week’s photo index number.  Being I’m not very good at bird photography I think this is a ‘prime’ shot of a Green Heron taken along Sunset Dam in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Zebra sticking out tongue Hluhluwe iMfolozi National Park South AfricaDiane chose #3331.  Maybe she can come up with a cute caption for this Zebra sticking its tongue out at Hluhluwe iMfolozi National Park, South Africa.

#2 Freshwater Lagoon Redwoods National Park California Bibi chose #2 which goes back to June 2002 along the Pacific Coast at #2 Freshwater Lagoon in Redwoods State and National Park, California.  Sure a lot of 2s here.

Lunar eclipse Yarnell ArizonaChris chose #666.  I think because he’s a little devil.  I’d bet somewhere back in history some people thought a Lunar eclipse was the work of the devil.  I don’t buy into that, do you?  This is the just before total eclipse in April this year.

Orange River Augrabies Falls National Park South AfricaSherry chose #9278.  Being a hiker I know she’d like the trails overlooking the Orange River at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.

Baby water monitor Pilanesberg Game Reserve South AfricaElaine chose #9898, a baby water monitor seen along the walk to the bird hide on Mankwe Dam at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa.

Rainbow in Roaring Springs Canyon North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaMy choice taken last Saturday after the rain a gift pouring into the canyon.  I could see the gold but couldn’t get down to it.

I hope you’ll join in with your own #3776 photo and story by adding your link below and linking back to Foto Friday Fun 76.  And if not, leave a number between 01 and 9991 in a comment for next week’s Foto Friday Fun.  The first person to comment who is joining in the meme please choose a number for next week.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
