Foto Friday Fun 39

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Quite a few Grand Canyon shots plus a few oldies.

Full moon rise over Walhalla Plateau from Bright Angel Point trailhead North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Jo chose #499, “Just because it’s one before 500, LOL!”  I took this photo just because a full moon was rising above the canyon walls.

Cool house along the Sea of Cortez San Felipe Baja Mexico

Bibi chose #20, “today’s date as I type.”  Knowing that she’s no bigger fan of cold weather than I am so thinking this place along the Sea of Cortez in San Felipe Baja Mexico might warm us both up a bit.  Maybe we could rent this house.  Who wants to join me?

Kaibab Plateau from SR89A south Arizona

Yogi chose #666, “again, I know that is boring to some but my partnership with the devil is working out well for me.”  Your ‘partnership’ got a road shot driving up onto the Kaibab Plateau from the north where I sometimes shop, 85 miles from the North Rim.  I like how you can see the road cut switching back and forth.  And bonus the moon.

Hopi glass blower Ramson Lomatewama Native American Heritage Days North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Sherry chose #616.  Last week you saw the Hopi glass blower at Native American Heritage Days held annually at the North Rim of Grand Canyon.  Here’s a close up of working the glass and adding some color on the marving table.  I really hope Sherry gets to see this next year.

Woton's Throne & sunset from Cape Royal North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Diane chose #696, a glittery sunset on Wotan’s Throne from Cape Royal, a marvelous overlook at the North Rim.  I sure am looking forward to this view again in the spring.

Sunset over Transept Canyon North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Arija chose #123, yet another sunset taken at the North Rim, this one from the Transept trail.  Do you see a face in that rock?

Dale with salmon Carson Washington

MaryBeth chose #1, “because Bob’s birthday is the 1st month of this new year and he is #1 in my life now.”  Back in 2002, Dale the fisherman was my #1 guy, and here he shows off his salmon prize caught in the Columbia River.  We traveled together for several years on the flea market circuit.

Elephant Kruger National Park South Africa

My choice this week…     With only 20 days until touch down the call to South Africa gets louder and more intense.  Can barely wait to see these marvelous giants again.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 1 and 1000 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 38

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 9 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Real heavy on Arizona choices and nothing wrong with that.

Tow mater toy truck Yarnell Arizona

MaryBeth chose #39 because, “My youngest birthday was on the 7th and she is now a grand 39—Jack Benny’s forever age.”  Well I think Tow Mater is another character that will be young forever.

4th of July at Grand Lodge North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Jo chose #7, “as it was the day the foster cats reached their first owner’s home in SA.”  That is cause for celebration, just like our 4th of July.  Of course at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park we don’t celebrate with fireworks, instead we have a water parade.

Hopi glass blower Ramson Lomatewama Native American Heritage Days North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Sherry chose #611.  She’s a rather crafty gal and would enjoy watching Ramson, a Hopi glass blower, at the Native American Heritage Days held annually at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.  Maybe she’ll make it there next year towards the beginning of August.

Found diamond ring in ashes Yarnell Arizona

Yogi chose #666, “Just cuz I want to see what the devil’s photo is going to be.”  I am devilishly lucky because I’ve lost and found this diamond ring twice.  Most recently sifted out of the Yarnell fire ashes.  Yogi will appreciate this being a geocacher and he likes scavenger hunts too.

Sparrows on snow covered feeder Yarnell Arizona

Arija chose #365, “in the hope that I will still be around til then.”  If you’d like to come house sit for me this winter you can be around for some snow instead of your summer Australian heat.

Gaelyn's truck Kaibab National Forest Arizona

Bibi also chose #666 “for next week, the devil that I am.”  I think the devil made me buy this truck, or at least had something to do with it being a lemon.  Very pretty, uncomfortable ride that cost me a fortune.  Much happier with the Dodge.

Laramar pendent bought at Gold Rush Days Wickenburg Arizona

Diane chose #699 and she makes and likes jewelry as much as I do.  I think she’ll like this Laramar pendent set in Sterling Silver, a stone found only in the Dominican Republic, although I bought this at Wickenburg’s Gold Rush Days.

Hassayampa River Bridge Wagner Road west Arizona

Sallie chose #350, “because I so often  like the middle of the road choice.”  No choice but the middle of the road over the Hassayampa River Bridge on the Wagner Road not too far from where I live.

Mount Saint Helens southside Gifford Pinchot National Forest Washington

Melissa chose #29 in honor of her “Unk Rees” born on 12/29/29 who lived in Tacoma, WA at the time of Mount Saint Helen’s eruption.  So here’s an image of the volcano taken back in the 90s.

Butterfly on flowers in Donna's yard Congress Arizona

My choice this week is a swallowtail butterfly taken in a friend’s backyard just down the hill from where I live in Congress, Arizona.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 1 and 700 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 37

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 10 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Thank you for bringing up some low number memories from a past I’d almost forgotten when I dug into an old external drive.

Chipmunk on bird feeder Yarnell Arizona

Arija chose #89, “a number that so often has been or been part of  the number of various places we have lived in.”  This chipmunk must be one of my neighbors as it comes around the feeder where I live.

Nelson Mandela Voting Line Port Elizabeth South Africa

Yogi chose #2, “just cuz.”  Seems an appropriate choice for this week as the world morns the passing of Nelson Mandela.  This art piece along the Route 67 Art project in Port Elizabeth, South Africa shows the people following Mandela to the first voting line for all that occurred in 1994.

Old saw mill's smoke belching dragon Gold King Mine Ghost town Jerome Arizona

Sherry chose #361.  I know she likes to visit unusual places like the Gold King Mine Ghost Town where this smoke belching dragon does its thing when the old saw mill is cranked up.

1992 Crater Walk Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument Gifford Pinchot National Forest Washington

Melissa chose #31, “the age my daughter will be if she has her first baby on my brother’s birthday!!”  Way back in 1992, I prayed to survive this hike and make it to my next birthday.  As part of Ranger training staff hiked into the crater of Mount Saint Helens to the then smaller dome.  No real worry about eruption but every time a rock fell we all jumped just a little.  This is a view into the Toutle River valley still looking pretty desolate even 12 years after the mighty eruption.  Plus not the best quality camera at the time.

Partial eclipse North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Jo chose #7 for a day last week when, “something good is supposed to happen in the Hedges household.”  And it did.  Good for me last year when a fellow blogger helped me find an inexpensive solar filter for my camera in time to take photos of the partial, or annular, solar eclipse.  This is just one of the series I took but you can see them all here.

washout Lewis River bridge 2-9 am Gifford Pinchot National Forest Washington

Dell chose #5 and is new here so I welcome him and hope he’ll introduce himself.  Does it look like there’s a problem here?  Back in 1996 major floods occurred on the south side of Mount Saint Helens and all three roads to where I volunteered washed out.  All us volunteers were helicoptered out leaving our vehicles and belongings behind for 2.5 months until this washout over the Lewis River was the first to be repaired.

Sky Island & Colorado River from Walhalla overlook North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Diane chose #222 for no reason.  She’s in the UK right now so I know she’s not getting a view like this of Sky Island and the Colorado River from Walhalla overlook.  But that’s OK, because we can only dream of this summer view being the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is closed for the winter.

Old building at Lonely Dell Ranch Lees Ferry Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Arizona

Bibi chose #66, “what I’ll be next year.”  Long before she was born Mormons traveled through America’s Southwest and built Lee’s Ferry crossing over the Colorado River and lived on their remote Lonely Dell Ranch.  Don’t the colored layers above the cabin look like a birthday cake?

Spike the porcupine California Living Museum Bakersfield California

Sallie chose #6, “It is my lucky number.”  Don’t know how lucky it would be to meet up with one of these.  But this porcupine, named Spike, was actually friendly to us animal keepers at the California Living Museum in Bakersfield, California.  He really seemed to like to have his velvet soft nose scratched.

Firefly chose #13, “cause I think the number rocks.  Even if others think its unlucky.”  I’ll bet he’s seen this before but I consider myself very lucky to have seen an elephant taking a dust bath in Kruger National Park South Africa.

Sunset Yarnell Arizona

My choice is a recent sunset over the Weaver Mountains in Yarnell taken through my RV window.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…

I am currently…
