This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives.  Of course these are all from my current journey through South Africa as that’s all I have on the replacement computer.  By next Friday I’ll be back in Arizona for one full day so you should start seeing photos from other places after that.  Then in just a couple more weeks I’ll be back at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Jo chose #199 and last week her favorites were the “ellie pics.”  She again gets “ellies” this time from Addo Elephant National Park where there’s LOTS of elephants.  These two young adults have turned their backs on the three youngsters who are playing in the grasses.  They were rolling all over and having a wonderful time.

Yogi chose #998 which features a statue at the Twee Riviern gate into Kgalagadi National Park of two Gemsbok running plus a bonus LBJ sitting on one of their horns.  (LBJ = Little Brown Job when birders can’t identify a small brown bird.)

Bibi chose #44, “That’s in how many days I leave for the US, and then some more to you.”  She’s working on a plan to visit me at the Grand Canyon this summer and I’m really looking forward to meeting her.  Sure hope I don’t scare her with this fierce look.  It’s rare to be able to leave your vehicle when visiting Addo Elephant National Park, or any game park for that matter, and when you can it’s very important to beware of lions.

Sherry chose #127.  I think she’d have liked this Augrabies flat lizard.  These colorful males were all over the rocks and decks at Augrabies Falls National Park and so were the rather dull brown females.  I took almost as many photos of them as the falls themselves.

Diane also chose #998 which features two giraffes, one big and one little and kind of hiding.  I love when rounding a corner on the road to see animals ambling along as then I can actually see their entire bodies including their feet which are usually hidden in the grass.  This was taken at Kruger National Park.

Sallie chose #6 or 66 or 666 because it “has always been my favorite number and I’m not afraid of it in spite of Yogi.”  Yogi is always choosing #666.  But there’s nothing to be afraid of at Augrabies Falls National Park as long as you stay on the boardwalk trails and decks to view the thundering falls.  Well, unless you’re afraid of heights.

MaryBeth chose #52 which features two kudu from Addo Elephant National Park.  These are females, see they have no horns.  To see the difference check out this post.

My choice this week is the best sighting so far at Pilanesburg Game Reserve where Joan and I are staying until April 6th.  We watched this male leopard lounging in the tree for quite a while and then it appeared to be watching something on the ground rather intently before laying back down to take a cat nap.

Diane chose #101, “just out of the hat.”  I think elephants would look funny in hats but this chorus line is just getting a drink in Addo Elephant National Park.  What do you think about the hats?

Jo chose #39, “the total amount of days until we go out to SA on our break.”  3+9=12 which is how many days until I return to the States.  Now that has nothing to do with this image.  Except if this Boomslang snake, which is extremely venomous, seen in Addo Elephant National Park had been alive I might have been scared back earlier.  It had, unfortunately, been run over.  Yet I think it’s colors quite striking.

Yogi chose #999, “cuz it is the inverted sign of the beast and I’ve already done 666.”  Sorry, no sign of the beast here.  Instead you get our campsite in Twee Rivieren camp at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.  My tent is on the right and Joan sleeps in her truck.  The other tent is for storage.

Sherry chose #2.  She gets a view of the Outeniqua Mountains just north of George South Africa when we were on our way to Karoo National Park.

Bibi chose #5, “optimistically thinking of my fifth trip to India…when?”  I think I’d like to go with her to India and then maybe get her to go to South Africa with me.  We could see many things like these hops growing along the road north of George, and not far from the previous mountain view.

MaryBeth chose #22 and she gets 2 of 2 sets of multi-generations of elephants in Addo Elephant National Park.

Jonker chose #1975, “The year I was born.”  Now this number is larger than the parameters but I did find one and there are 5 Red Hartebeest in this image from Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

My choice this week comes from the most recently visited Augrabies Falls National Park, the 10th park of this visit.  Due to heavy rain the falls, known as “The Place of Noise” were really flowing. I wanted to share a video complete with sound but slow internet connection won’t allow.

Diane chose #198 because “19 my birth date and 8 for the month.”  And because she’s such a bright and shinny person she gets a sunrise at Karoo National Park South Africa.

Bibi chose #48 for “no reason.”  I did have a reason to photograph this sign as it will remind me where I was.

Jo chose #999, “the last number in your range.”  This baby elephant was in camera range in Addo Elephant National Park, but it certainly wasn’t the last photo taken.

Sallie chose #06.  I must have taken over 600 photos of the Indian Ocean and wave action in Tsitsikamma National Park.

MaryBeth chose #9, “the date you are returning home and day of my Grandmother’s birthday.”  I guess that means the 9th is a special day and so is this waterfall seen at Tsitsikamma National Park.

Elaine chose #409, “since that’s the day you return to the US and the day we’ll return to Alaska from a short jaunt to the Pacific Northwest.”  I’ll be forever looking for elephants once I return to the States but don’t suppose I’ll find any in Arizona, or Alaska.

Arija chose #423, “for no reason whatever.”  Not sure if these Warthogs in Addo Elephant National Park had a reason to walk down the road.

Jonker also chose #999, “as it is the last number available.”  I’m teasing him again with these giraffe’s at Kruger National Park where he needs to take his family.

Yogi chose #667, “just cuz.”  He likes to laugh which is a known trait of the hyena, this youngster was seen at Addo Elephant National Park.

My choice this week is this pair of Gemsbok having a little dual where I currently am at Kalagadi Transfrontier Park.  Thank goodness they weren’t serious as those horns look formidable.
