This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including South Africa, sand and stone, sunset colors, and ocean waves.

Jo chose #4110.  Advertising petroglyphs instead of a billboard sign were once common in southern Utah.

Diane and Nigel chose #2204.  A view they got to enjoy of a different sunset over Grand Canyon from the North Rim.

Cathy chose #0506.  Another sunset, this time over the Pacific Ocean from Bandon, Oregon.

Sherry chose #941.  A previous truckcamper taken in 2009 at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Utah.

Rita chose #4419.  Hippos spend most of their days in water partially because they easily sunburn.  Seen in 2014 at Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Gypsy chose #6602, “Route 66 in ‘02.”  Last week she shared with me a Bird of Paradise plant seen in her neighborhood that is considered toxic.  So it seems  appropriate her number brought up a toxic plant as well, Amaryllis Belladonna is native to South Africa where I took this photo in Tsitsikamma National Park.

Doris chose #4579.  After leaving Hermanus, South Africa where I spent my 2010 birthday, I found many opportunities to stop along the shores of False Bay on my way to Cape Town.

Jennifer chose #2134.  A case of ancient sand dunes lithified to stone and eroding back to sand, yet it almost looks like swirled desert or ice cream.  White Pocket in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument northern Arizona.

Alan chose #5040.  Look closely to see the Water Thick-knee bird hiding in the reeds at Lake Panic in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Digging back to April 27, 2006, a previous 5th-wheel home parked at a friends in Cave Junction, Oregon when I was a Park Ranger at Oregon Caves National Monument.

Thanks for the memories

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by ten readers including Grand Canyon under dramatic stormy skies, the Colorado River that carved that grand canyon, and other far views.

Jo chose #4825.  Crazy Jug Point on the Kaibab National Forest, a favorite place to watch monsoon storms roll across the Grand Canyon.  I usually camp in this remote location so I can photograph the storm and jump into the camper to stay dry and safe.

TreDeuce gets #131, for the number of words in his last comment.  A panorama of the Colorado River shoreline just downstream of the Lee’s Ferry boat launch in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Arizona.  A first visit for me in June 2008 as I explored the area surrounding the North Rim Grand Canyon, my first season at that national park.

Cathy chose #8174, “the birth DAYS of my siblings.”  If she meant August 1st, this shot comes close taken August 9, 2015 from the North Rim Grand Canyon.  A view I’m sure she knows.

Rita chose #9922.  Marble View, yet another favorite Kaibab National Forest camp with a view east over the Marble Plateau and canyon, Echo Cliffs, and Navajo Mountain faintly on the horizon close to 100 miles away.

Jeff chose #42 in honor to Jackie Robinson Day.  At barely a year old, I was already off to discover the answer to everything.  Which I now know is “42”.  (Alluding to Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”)

Gypsy chose #2020, a popular number and had to wade through the year 2020.  Taken during Autumn, 11 years after the 2006 Warm Fire on the North Kaibab National Forest.  Presumably an area for ranchers to round up their cattle grazing on the public land.

Alan chose #3190.  The Forest Tree-ferns can grow 15-20 feet tall along the Big Tree Trail where the Yellowwood trees tower 100 feet above.

Jodee and Bill chose #2557.  New Year’s Eve 2014 this was my morning view of the Vallecito Mountains from camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.  This area is no longer open to campers.

Diane and Nigel chose #1504.  While exploring southern Utah during late October, 2011 this northern view from the Glendale Bench Road caught my eye.  I didn’t realize at the time the distant Pink Cliffs is Yovimpa Point, the southern most overlook in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Sherry chose #4245, “for the word HAIL which we had in Virginia April 18th.”  Oh HELL for HAIL in Spring trying for Summer.  In 2010, my March Spring was Autumn in Hermanus, South Africa when I stayed at Anchors Rest B&B.  Obviously the bedroom, this small cottage also had a full kitchen, bath, living room, patio, and private yard.

My choice is a teaser for more Kofa Mountain shots over Easter weekend in the next post.  BTW, there’s also a new video previewing the next camp after Kofa.

HAPPY EARTH DAY!

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including a couple panoramas, South Rim Grand Canyon, Mt St Helens, South Africa and Utah.

Jo chose #8004.  Sandee and I visited the South Rim of Grand Canyon for my 2015 birthday.

Doris chose #9123.  Reception and restaurant building at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.

Sue chose #1995, “for the year I quit selling flowers for a living.”  In 1995 I was preparing for a fourth season at Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument.  A combination of young and old forest surrounding Swift Reservoir located on the south side of Mt St Helens.

Susan chose #4822, one of five in a panorama.  Sunrise over False Bay from my B&B balcony on one of my last days visiting South Africa for the first time in 2010.

Diane and Nigel chose #804.  I am standing next to a stone Toadstool in northern Arizona in 2009.

Sherry chose #8178.  Fall aspen on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.

Gypsy chose #1219, “date of the first spaceship to land on land, upright.”  One of six in another panorama, some of the hoodoos stand upright at Cedar Breaks National Monument.

Cathy chose #0614.  Grand Canyon and Colorado River view upstream from Desert View Watchtower on the South Rim Grand Canyon National Park.

Rita chose #0219.  A rather stormy afternoon at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, California, February 2016 during the Superbloom but no flowers on the salt flats.

Sallie and Bill chose #410.  My first season at the North Rim Grand Canyon in 2008 I visited surrounding parks like Zion National Park where this tunnel is located.

Alan chose #1039.  Overly large herds of hybrid cattle-bison, sometimes called beefalo, graze and destroy meadows on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
