This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including the North Kaibab, foggy Grand Canyon, golden Aspen, and waterfalls.

Jo chose #2402.  Snake Gulch in the Kanab Creek Wilderness and Kaibab National Forest thankfully was spared from the nearby Mangum fire.  The entire area has many Native petroglyphs and pictographs.

Diane and Nigel chose #1906.  Seen from the North Rim Grand Canyon, Rangers get paid in sunsets.

Pat chose #1040.  Havasu Falls on the Havasupai Indian Reservation in Arizona 4-20-10 after a long hike down into the canyon.

Cathy chose #7911.  Just a touch of fall color on the Aspen along East Rim on the Kaibab National Forest 9-20-14.  Thankfully south of the Mangum fire.

Sue chose #6180.  A rather foggy view from Cape Royal overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park 8-13-14.

Jennifer chose #9193.  Golden fall Aspen along the Ken Patrick trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon 10-11-14.

Jodee and Bill chose #525.  The remains of a pueblo at Wupatki National Monument in Arizona 4-16-09.

Jeff chose #2011, “the year we visited Antelope Canyon.”  It was the previous year for my first visit to South Africa and I hiked in the Drakensburg.  Look closely on the rocks for the Baboons that watched on.

Rita chose #1398.  Monsoon season is a likely time to see fog in Grand Canyon.  Taken from the North Rim Lodge 8-18-10.

Doris chose #422.  Not far south from last weeks excursion on the Cottonwood Road, the Cockscomb continues along House Rock Valley Road where I camped before hiking Buckskin Gulch Slot Canyon the first time 5-13-09.

Jim and Diana chose #130.  While leading tours in Oregon Caves National Monument these stairs offered an optional side trip into Paradise Lost.

Sallie and Bill chose #620.  Berlyn Falls was one of many places seen in the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve in South Africa during my first trip in 2010.

Yogi chose #1007.  A long view west to the Panamint Range from Eureka Mine in Death Valley National Park, California 10-30-09.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including water, light, and another dinosaur in Utah, Arizona, Oregon, and South Africa.

Jim and Diana chose #137. An inviting looking lodge seen while rafting along the Rogue River with fellow Park Rangers when I worked at Oregon Caves the summer of 2007.

Diane and Nigel chose #1206.  When they visited Grand Canyon we probably stopped at Vista Encantada overlook on our return drive from Cape Royal, at the end of the road.  This northeast view from the North Rim includes Mt Hayden and Saddle Mountain under a stormy monsoon sky in 2009.

Yogi chose #1014, a three shot panorama.  It’s all about the light so I took the noonish photography tour in 2009 (no longer available) at Antelope Slot Canyon with a Navajo guide.  Sadly it is currently closed to protect the Navajo people from outsider COVID19.  I sure would like to return with a better camera and understanding how to shoot under these conditions.

Jennifer chose #9032.  Sunset from the Lodge on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park taken 10-7-14.  Rangers get paid in sunsets.

Jodee and Bill chose #456.  Lower New Navajo Falls, a lesser shared waterfall seen along Havasu Creek after hiking down into Havasu Canyon on the Havasupai Indian Reservation (also currently closed).  I hiked in with a fellow Ranger for three nights in spring of 2010 just before returning to work at the North Rim Grand Canyon.

Sallie and Bill chose #620.  I love rocks and there are three rock stores in Orderville, Utah near the turn off to Zion from SR89.  The coolest one IMHO, has a dinosaur out front of a “RT66 style” building.

Rita chose #3356, one of two in a panorama.  Two out of three of the warm water soaking pools at Warmwaterberg Spa in South Africa.  These shots from my first visit in March, 2013 and then returned the next year and had a private Roman bath.

Doris chose #127, “my customer number to enter the local food store.”  There could easily be 127 Asters in this shot—you go ahead and count—taken in 2005 when working at Mesa Verde for the summer.

Sherry chose #7819.  Saw this Black-backed Jackal rather near to the rig while on safari in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.

Jeff chose #0720, “for the day early Solstice this year…”  This shot was taken three months after Solstice in 2017.  Roosevelt Point overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park provides a view of the canyon and on almost 80 miles to Navajo Mountain in the far distance.

My choice from my phone, looking north from Bryce Point about five miles across Bryce Canyon’s main amphitheater full of trees and hoodoos.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including several firsts and seconds, Southwest canyons’ red rock, Aspen trees, and dinosaurs.

Rita chose #5341.  Not sure I ever saw a bad sunset while camping along Rockhouse Road (no longer available for dispersed camping) adjacent to Anza-Borrego State Park, California.

Dale chose #1303.  A hoodoo view from Bryce Point during my first visit in 2010.  Little did I know I’d end up working and living in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Yogi let random dot org choose #8412.  A view into Grand Canyon from Moran Point on the South Rim where I celebrated my birthday in 2015.  He knows about celebrating birthdays and spreads the party many days on each side.  I learned that from him.

Doris chose #1153.  An expansive view to the San Francisco Peaks north of Flagstaff, Arizona as seen along Interstate-40 West.  I usually try to avoid freeways and hadn’t driven the route many times in April 2009 when this shot was taken through the windshield with a HP P&S.  Over the next 11 years I’ve seen this view in a variety of seasons.

Jo chose #1560.  A grove of Quaking Aspen near the North Rim Grand Canyon taken in September, 2009 right before they turn to Autumn gold.

Sherry chose #2174.  Taken my first visit to the remote Toroweap overlook along the north rim of Grand Canyon.  The iconic views 3000 feet down into the Colorado River are exquisite but the drive is not for the feint of heart.  Looking down stream Lava Falls can be seen, rates a 10 on the canyon scale and I can tell you it’s BIG.

Diane and Nigel chose #506.  My first Autumn as a Park Ranger on the North Rim in 2008 I experienced the absolute wonder of the Aspens going gold.

Jennifer chose #9340.  Her forest and wetland environment in Ontario probably doesn’t include Beavertail cactus yet is beautifully diverse in a different way than the desert environment in Congress, Arizona where this was taken in friends yard during April, 2015.  Look closely for the spider.

Pat chose #1355, the time it was.  And what a great time we had when she visited me at Grand Canyon in June 2014.  I’m sure we enjoyed this view from Point Imperial even without the rainbow seen 9-13-09.

Jeff chose #6820, “as Mission Bay Park will open on June 8th.”  And he didn’t waste any time visiting.  I’m thinking he’s probably also visited Joshua Tree National Park a time or two where this shot of Juniper Flats along the Keys View Road was taken 3-5-15.

Jodee and Bill chose #1321.  We actually met the first time on this verandah at the Grand Lodge on the North Rim.  Yet I’m sure it was busier than this shot the end of April, 2009 before the North Rim was open.

Jim and Diana chose #144.  From my first, and only, season as a Park Ranger at Mesa Verde National Park in 2005, this painting depicting daily life for the Ancestral Puebloans hung in the museum.

My choice is an example of what happens when several Park Rangers have been inside too long and are organizing props for geology talks that haven’t happened yet.  Recognize anybody?
