This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including diverse skies because I am a nepholographer, roads because I’m also a “street” photographer, my Mom in the 1940s, and a wee bit more.

Jim and Diana chose #2525, “which is not only a one-hit wonder by Zager and Evans, but is also the year the Lions will finally win a Super Bowl.”  I didn’t know lions ate out of bowls, but that’s later in this post.  The oldest shot with their number from 2010 is a sign posted on the compost outhouse at Toroweap campground about the fragile cryptobiotic soil crust that is full of life.  So I decided to give them another photo of a sunset through the storm clouds taken through a dirty camper window at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.

Cathy chose #3576.  From the same visit to Anza-Borrego as above, this time a sunrise.

Rita chose #206.  Perfect for an archaeologist, although this piece is not an artifact, yet.  Created at the campfire program I presented at the North Rim Grand Canyon about clay coming to the ancient people.  The young visitor said “it’s a pot with berries”.

TreDeuce chose #6105.  A narrow backroad in Grand Staircase Escalante, the kind I love to go on and am happy when someone has a vehicle to do it.

Diane and Nigel chose #2611.  A foggy day at Grand Canyon.

Alan chose #4959.  If you get out early on safari it is common to see lions just waking on the warm pavement in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Sherry chose #4.  My Mom’s high school graduation sometime in the 1940s.

Jo chose #2711.  Spotted this camo painted motorhome at the North Rim Grand Canyon.

Sallie and Bill chose #1221, “the official first day of winter” that will soon be upon us.  I will be further south, and hopefully warmer, than standing on Navajo Bridge in northern Arizona where this shadow shot was taken 9-10-09.

My choices from 2005 when I sold at the Wickenburg Gem Show held the weekend after Thanksgiving.  The second shot, lower right, is the metate I posted about in the last post.

Thanks for the memories

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including my youth and before my time, with travels to the Southwest and South Africa too.

Lisa chose #915.  Although I don’t know what kind of vehicle this is (what’s left anyway) it’s certainly from before my time.  While walking in the Weaver Mountains many years ago in Yarnell I came across this rusty relic.

Jeff chose #602, “the length of last nights eclipse.”  Imagine living over 1000 years ago when an unexplainable eclipse occurred.  You can just barely see a Native ruin right of center seen in Wupatki National Monument in Arizona.  I was there 4-16-09 and it snowed.

Rita chose #3322.  Nature’s rock art displays bedding planes and minerals on a sandstone boulder seen along the Bunting Trail in Kanab, Utah.  The trail leads to dinosaur tracks.

Diane and Nigel chose #1911.  The luscious rolling green hiked through in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa in March 2010.

Doris chose #3775.  Appropriately named Sunset Dam, a great stop before rushing back to camp before the gates close.  Kruger National Park South Africa 2-13-14.

Sue chose #2045, “for the date it will probably be before I ever get to Africa.”  She’d be 100 years old then.  At this time in history it’s possible she’ll live that long.  But in the meantime, she could settle with the more nearby Death Valley National Park and get a sunset view over Badwater Basin and Telescope Peak.

Sherry chose #3.  My dad’s powerboat sitting almost high and dry along the shore of the Illinois River as the barge going by pulls the water in an undertow.  The boat’s name was Six-Pac as dad said it wouldn’t run without at least that much beer on board, and there was always more than that.  Taken in 1969 and later scanned.

Jennifer got #11 for the number of words in her last comment.  A rather lousy film shot from March 1975 later scanned.  A frozen waterfall at the head of Kaskaski Canyon in Starve Rock State Park in Ottawa, Illinois.  This was a favorite place to visit in my youth and I returned during 2012 when I went to my 40th high school reunion.

Sallie and Bill chose #1128, their anniversary.  How about an anniversary panorama sunset over the Vermilion Cliffs from August, 2010.  A favorite stop of mine along SR89A and I must have been headed back to the North Rim.

Cathy chose #1202.  Another must stop place along SR89A, Navajo Bridge, where it’s likely to see California Condors, and this wonderful view upstream of the Colorado River in Marble Canyon.

Alan chose #1944.  OK, not my photo, but I just couldn’t resist.  This staged wedding shot taken in 1944 in Millers Chapel along the tour route in Oregon Caves National Monument.  The photo is in my history archives from when I worked at the cave beginning in 2002.

After that season at Oregon Caves, I caravanned from Washington to southern California in November 2002 with my dear friend and life mentor Darlene.  We lived in our RVs and sold at a fleamarket in Yucca Valley where she is modeling some of my jewelry.  I visited nearby Joshua Tree National Park more than a few times.

Thanks for the memories

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by eight readers including water vapor, hot water, cold water, falling water, frozen water, wildlife, and wild food.

Jo chose #5317.  That large pool is filled with hot water from the natural thermals in Badplaas.  Camped a couple times at this Forever Resort in South Africa.  The most fun was warm water slides.

Gypsy chose #3116, “when Scott Kelly returned from 340 days on the ISS.”  Where I believe they have no cactus.  She sees a similar fruiting cactus in Arizona but this plant was seen at Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.

Diane and Nigel chose #1211.  She regularly grows and photographs the most beautiful flowers in her French yard.  The Iris marks Spring in Yarnell, Arizona.

Sallie and Bill get #64 for the number of words in their last comment.  The also get Whiskers, the male cougar I fed as an animal keeper at the California Living Museum in 1989.

Cathy chose #1648.  Storm clouds hung over the Drakensberg Mountains during a hike to Sterkspruit Falls while visiting South Africa in 2010.

Sherry chose #2 and got #02, a scanned print probably taken in the late 50s or early 60s.  My Grandma Bea’s log cabin on Enterprise Lake in Elcho Wisconsin where I spent time as a kid.  I think a good lake for kayaking.

Sue chose #9876.  My RV window view on April 25, 2015 barely looking at Transept Canyon on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.

Jeff chose #5099, “the price of diesel in Borrego Springs!”  In South Africa fuel was about that much per liter when visiting in 2014.  Which is when I also saw this Kruger National Park elephant headed down the road so we backed up and burned a little fuel (it was gas) to get out of the way.

My choices from November 1998 when I worked and lived at Eagles Cliff Resort near the Lewis River falls, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Washington.  That’s an edible Lobster mushroom gathered in the forest.
