When FabGrandma told me about some mushrooms on a tree I certainly didn’t expect this. A stump half covered with the choice edible Oyster mushrooms sitting between two storage containers. One of my favorites. Yet I never expected to see Oysters at Grand Canyon.
I only picked a couple of these beauties. Just enough to saute with dinner. Wild mushrooms don’t keep very long unless they’re dehydrated and that wasn’t an option.
They did have a few small worms which I rinsed off, at least most of them. Probably should have soaked them in salt water to drown all the little wigglers. But hey, it’s just protein.
And they sautéed so fine. Sure went great with mashed potatoes and talapia.
Voila, dinner.
And yes, you can browse in a national park. Just don’t gather buckets full to take with you. Pick and eat berries or mushrooms while you visit. But you’d better know what you’re doing.
Plus, these shrooms never left the park, if you know what I mean.
