Mom at Crazy's Chinese Buffet Harlingen Texas

Today, between doctor appointments (another story), Mom wanted to show me her jewelry. She doesn’t have much and most of it’s not fancy or expensive. She does wear earrings every day.

Sterling and turquoise pendant-broche from Mom San Benito Texas

I spotted this obviously Native pendant/broche buried under some cheap plastic beads and asked if I could have it. It’s old, no stamps, just “Betty Zuni” scratched into the back. Tells me it was made pre-1970s. No story beyond that.

Sterling silver and turquoise pendant-broche & ring from Mom San Benito Texas

The ring was a gift to Mom from my dear Aunt Kay. It too is an older piece with an engraving on the back I can’t quite read. I will treasure these forever.

Sunset over resaca San Benito Texas

Sorry about confusing people yesterday with the “resaca” thing. The Spanish verb resacar, to retake, seems to have several definitions. A hangover or headache which follows a drunken state, or an undercurrent, seaward pull, undertow. Seems some resacas were former channels of the Rio Grande river used for flood control. The Resaca de los Fresnos in San Benito was developed for irrigation purposes.
