This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 7 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives. Heavy on Golden Gate Highlands National Park, maybe because as it gets closer to the end of my season at Grand Canyon I’m dreaming and planning for my 2014 journey back to South Africa, and this time to share this amazing place with a couple of friends. More about that coming up as the plot thickens.
Yogi chose #1989 as the year he was married to Sweetie. Sure hope he remembers to give her flowers on their anniversary. These everlasting flowers were growing along the Echo Ravine trail in Golden Gate Highlands National Park in South Africa. They look like the strawflowers I’ve seen in the states.
Jo chose #1999, “being a terrible year in my life. Thank God I need never go back there and I believe you will come up with a wonderful photo bearing that number.” So to help her forget the terrible I share this delicate lavender flower found along the same trail as above in Golden Gate Highlands National Park. Maybe she’ll even be able to identify it for me.
MaryBeth chose #95, “the age my Mother was when she went on her final journey.” This from the road on my last journey to Granite Mountain in Prescott, Arizona before the big fire up there.
Sherry chose #1968, “the year this Ohio girl first saw the Atlantic Ocean. It was love at first sight. I never returned to Ohio.” My love at first sight was my third car as a teenager. This 1968 Mercury Cyclone Cobra Jet with a 428 under the hood scoop was the fastest girl-car in high school. (Not my photo, I stole it from the Internet long ago.)
Diane chose #1943, “the year I was born.” Being she has lived in South Africa, and camped at Tsitsikamma National Park, I thought she’d enjoy these Cormorants hanging out below the Suspension Bridge trail at Storms River Mouth.
Bibi chose #1996, “which will be my number of posts on that day.” Well that’s today and I am majorly impressed with that many posts. Thought I was doing pretty good at 1284 with this one after almost five years of blogging. Her number shows the beginnings of fall color along the edge of the 2006 Warm Fire along SR67 in the Kaibab National Forest. I can feel fall approaching again.
Sallie chose #311, “Because that’s what the clock on my computer says at this exact moment.” It was an hour and 10 minutes later than that last August when I took this photo of storm clouds building up over Echo Cliffs from SR89A. A little bonus is the Native American stand, one of many, found along the highway on the Navajo Reservation.
My choice this week from the last time I’ll see the sunset from Cape Royal this season. Part of the scenic road on the North Rim was closed September 3rd for repaving. The night before that I rushed out there after work to catch my last one until next year. Of course there are other locations to watch a glorious sunset over Grand Canyon.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. In a couple weeks I’d like to change it up and post a number for you to choose a photo from your archives along with a little story to share here. More about this next week. In the meantime, for next week leave a number between 1 and 500 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Which one is your favorite from this week?
