Foto Friday Fun 35

This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 6 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.

Yard art & flowers at Berta's Yarnell Arizona

Yogi chose #714, “which is the number of home runs that Babe Ruth hit (I think).”  I know nothing about baseball but could almost believe that Berta had that many flowers around her house before the fire.

Fall aspen along FR610 Kaibab National Forest Arizona

Sherry chose #393 and I know she’s a tree hugger.  Looks like these aspen were hugged a lot by snow which is why they are curved.

European Roller Kruger National Park South Africa

Bibi chose #135, “the weight I’d really like to be again, but I think that’s history.”  In my herstory, as a child my Mom accused me of “eating like a bird.”  If she, or I, had only known that birds eat more than their weight daily.  I’ll bet this European Roller in Kruger National Park South Africa eats lots of large insects, small reptiles, rodents and frogs every day.

Classic cars at North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Arija chose #898, “Just because it is a good-looking number.”  And these are good looking classic cars seen at the North Rim of Grand Canyon.

Zuni Social Dances by Soaring Eagle Zuni Dance Group Native American Heritage Days North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Diane chose #599, “for absolutely no reason at all!”  It doesn’t require a reason to dance either.  This young woman, part of the Soaring Eagle Zuni Dance Group, performs a social dance at the Annual Native American Heritage Days held at the North Rim of Grand Canyon.

Snowy Yarnell Arizona

Firefly chose #372, “Just a random number pulled from a hat.”  Snow is a rather random occurrence in Yarnell, thank goodness.  Yet this blanket of white from March 2012 almost buried the old horse surreys yard art.

Cottonwood reflection Yarnell Arizona

My choice this week shows the end of fall here in Yarnell reflected in the wash near a friend’s house.  Cool mornings just above freezing and days only in the 50s tell me winter is on it’s way to 5,000 feet.  I hope to be gone before the snow yet have to wait until mid-January.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 100 and 900 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 34

This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 9 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Lots of birth years.

Class of 1972 at 40th reunion Bolingbrook Country Club Illinois

Jo chose #1972, “the year Grant and I were married.”  And that’s the year I graduated from high school and didn’t look back.  Well, until attending my 40th class reunion, my first.  And it was a lot of fun meeting and greeting people I mostly didn’t remember.

Sunrise over waves with bird at Tsitsikamma National Park Storms River Mouth South Africa

Yogi chose #1928, “the year my Dad was born.”  And here we see the birth of a new day as the sunrises over the Indian Ocean at Tsitsikamma National Park in South Africa.

Seagull on rocks watching Indian Ocean from on Suspension Bridge trail at Storms River Mouth Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa

Diane chose #1916, “the year my Dad was born.”  Once again at Tsitsikamma where this lone seagull sits on the boulders.

View from Echo Ravine trail Golden Gate Highlands National Park South Africa

Barb chose #1944, “the year of my birth.”  I wonder if she was born with hiking shoes on because this lady hikes, bikes and skies according to season.  I think she would like hiking along the Echo Ravine trail among the towering sandstone cliffs of Golden Gate Highlands National Park in South Africa.  What say you Barb, want to go hiking?

Sunset from Point Sublime North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

MaryBeth chose #1122, “the month (November) and the day (22) of my birthday.”  That’s today.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY MB!!!!!!  For you a sunset from Point Sublime, a Grand Canyon view I will happily take you to when you visit the North Rim.

Malva with custard & ice cream desert Warmwaterberg Spa Barrydale South Africa

Sherry chose #3366.  Sherry is a lover of deserts and I know she and I would get along just fine while eating Malva pudding (recipe) with custard and ice cream when she joins me in South Africa.  Well maybe someday she will.  In the meantime, we can all drool over the photo taken at Warmwaterberg Spa.

View from Gydo Pass above Prince Albert's Hamelet South Africa

Bibi chose #3910, “which was the street address of the first place I called home, where I was taken as a baby.”  How would you like an address with this view?  My hosts at Rhodene Farm suggested this drive up to Gydo Pass when they found out how much I like mountain roads and views.

Rufuos hummingbird on feeder thru RV window North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Melissa chose #524, “My baby-girl (31) is pregnant with her first child!!  We are thrilled!!  Her due date is May 24th.”  May your new grandchild be as precious as all life and as whimsical as a hummingbird.

Vermilion Cliffs Arizona

Sallie chose #2014 because, “It’s about time to get used to writing that.”  I plan to see this view of the Vermilion Cliffs in 2014 on my way back to the North Rim.

Sam

My choice this week is of Sam who is staying with me while my neighbor is away.  He’s an older and pretty mellow guy, a rescue dog who’s kind of shy.  I haven’t had a dog around since Carson who I still miss daily.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 100 and 900 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Foto Friday Fun 33

This week’s Foto Friday Fun includes 11 images chosen by readers picking a number out of my photo archives.  Had a couple of duplicate choices and with high end numbers there aren’t multiple choices so I had to substitute.  Yet those high numbers also meant a lot of views from Tsitsikamma National Park, which isn’t a problem for me as I love the place.  Hope you do too.

View from loop drive Golden Gate Highlands National Park South Africa

Elaine chose #2013, “Since the year is rapidly coming to a close.”  And as it does and I get closer to returning to South Africa I dream of these kinds of fantastic views into the Drakensberg Mountains like this image from Golden Gate Highlands National Park.

Sunset over Weaver Mountains Kirkland Arizona

Arija chose #5100.  Knowing how much she loves to watch the sky I think she’ll enjoy this sunset over the Weaver Mountains taken in Kirkland, Arizona on a drive home.

Weaver Mountains near Kirkland Arizona

Firefly chose #4999 which was taken 30 minutes before the above sunset.

Mercat at Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre Plettenberg Bay South Africa

Yogi chose #666, “Just cuz I am a devilish guy, sometimes.”  Do I see a devilish grin on this mercat seen at Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre in Plettenberg Bay South Africa.

Crashing waves at Storms River Mouth Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa

Sherry chose #1010 and she loves the ocean.  In fact I don’t think this is the first time she’s lucked out with a shot of the crashing waves at Storms River Mouth Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa.  With all this teasing I may get her to join me on a future visit.

Vermilion Cliffs and House Rock Valley Kaibab National Forest Arizona

MaryBeth chose #2011, “the year I met Bob and for all the fun I have had since.”  The two of them love road trips so should really come down to the Southwest and see views from the road like this of Vermilion Cliffs and House Rocky Valley.

Fall colors Walhalla Plateau North Rim Grand Canyon National Park Arizona

Diane chose #1915, “the year my Mum was born.”  Time slips away and we loose loved ones just as the forest looses old trees to make room for the new.  This cycle is seen where fire destroyed a forest on the Walhalla Plateau allowing the young aspen to return and show their fall color.

Sunrise over waves and dolphins at Tsitsikamma National Park Storms River Mouth South Africa

Sallie chose #1957, “the year we got married.”  If I ever get married again I’d like to spend my honeymoon for several weeks at Tsitsikamma National Park watching the waves and hoping for dolphins to swim by.

Bradshaw Mountains from Iron Springs Road Arizona

Jo also chose #4999 but because there’s only one choice for that number I gave her a look at the Bradshaw Mountains earlier on the same day as the above Weaver Mountain images.

Wild tomato along Suspension Bridge trail at Storms River Mouth Tsitsikamma National Park South Africa

Melissa chose #1928, “the year my Mum was born.” I’m not sure wild tomatoes have anything to do with the birth of your Mum but that’s the image you got.  Saw these while hiking the Suspension Bridge trail at Storms River Mouth Tsitsikamma National Park in South Africa.  They are an invasive species and thanks to my South African friend Joan I knew better than to eat them.

View from Johnson Canyon Road Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument Utah

Barb chose #1091, “the ages of the twins and their brothers.”  Knowing how much Barb and her grandchildren like to get outdoors I believe they’d like to hike around Johnson Canyon in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Inside of Jim's new house Yarnell Arizona

My choice this week is the inside of a friend’s new house.  His uninsured home burned during the Yarnell Fire and volunteers are building him a new home.  Every day changes occur as this place goes up pretty fast.  I predict he’ll be moved in by Christmas.  From the ashes rises the new.

Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun. I really enjoy digging through my archives and pulling the stories from my memories. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 1 and 4990 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…

I am currently…
