Foto Friday Fun 438: every picture tells a story

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including Grand Canyon monsoon moods, Southwest colors, Rhino dung, and me.

Fall aspen FR270 Kaibab National Forest ArizonaJo chose #8145.  Though this shot is from 9-26-14, the colors recently looked like this on the Kaibab National Forest in northern Arizona.  I love to see my autumn as I watch her South African Spring.

Rhino dung with Dung beetles Kruger National Park Mpumalanga South AfricaCathy chose #1492.  Yes, I tend to take photos of everything, including Rhinoceros dung complete with Dung Beetles as seen on my first visit to Kruger National Park, South Africa.

White Pocket Vermilion Cliffs National Monument ArizonaTreDeuce inadvertently chose #1953 in his last comment.  The sandstone formations at White Pocket swirl and pillow in shades of iron oxide.

Salt Badwater Basin Death Valley National Park CaliforniaJodee and Bill chose #1151.  A closeup of the salt seen at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park.

Ranger Gaelyn sunset darkness over canyon from Cape Royal trail Walhalla Plateau North Rim Grand Canyonl National Park ArizonaDiane and Nigel chose #1510.  Ranger Gaelyn in 2009, my second season working at Grand Canyon where Cape Royal became a favorite place to watch sunset.

Aces horse in snow Wenatchee Washington 1987Sue chose #1987, “the year I mapped Hells Canyon along the Snake River.”  This shot of my horse Aces taken in 1987 when living in Wenatchee, Washington.

Sunrise over Indian Ocean Scottburgh Caravan Park Scottburgh South AfricaGypsy chose #5512, the date she met her brother along the Arizona Trail.  This is from the date (2-22-14) I woke up early enough to catch a sunrise over the Indian Ocean right next to camp in Scottburgh, South Africa.

Fog shrouded Wotans Throne Cape Royal North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaAlan chose #6209.  He’s been following my blog so long I think he’s seen Grand Canyon in as many moods as I did over ten summer seasons.  My favorite days during monsoon when the clouds dance around like this shot of Wotan’s Throne seen from Cape Royal on the North Rim.  My second favorite this week.

Stormy view West Crazy Jug Point Kaibab National Forest ArizonaSherry chose #4861, “the temperature outside and inside when I woke up this morning.”  Hopefully that didn’t include rain which was coming at my Crazy Jug Point camp with another mood over Grand Canyon.  My favorite.

fern mushroom Oregon Aquarium Newport Beach OregonRita chose #1042.  Lots of lush greens left even in early November just outside the Oregon Aquarium in Newport Beach.  Best memory.

Purchase 2022 Geogypsy calendar

Now that I’m getting settled in to my new place and retired from 29 seasons of being a Park Ranger I finally have time to put together the 2022 Geogypsy calendar.  It includes 13 photos taken since last year’s calendar.  Many of you helped me choose which pics.

calendar October on wallDon’t tell me hanging a calendar on the wall is old fashioned.  I may be old but have no fashion.  Yea, yea, yea, there’s a calendar on your computer and your cell phone, but…  I still like to write things down on paper and see it at a glance.  Call me old fashioned then.  I can’t be the only one.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including unusual sandstone formations, an old camp trip, and lots of lions.

Male lions Kruger National Park Mpumalanga South AfricaSue chose #1002, “for the day we returned home.”  This was the first day I visited Kruger National Park, and the first day I saw lions.  These two brothers aren’t quite full grown as seen by the lack of a huge mane.  South Africa 3-8-2010.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
