This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including two mighty rivers, grand canyons, and an artist’s expression.
Rita chose #8999. Last year in February I was introduced to and fell in love with the Sonoran desert. This sunset shot was taken from my camp near Darby Well Road just south of Ajo, AZ.
TreDeuce chose #1928, “the year my dear mother was born.” My mother, also born in ‘28, couldn’t understand why I traveled to South Africa. However she enjoyed the photos of unique wildlife, and distant landscapes like the Drakensburg Mountains I was fortunate enough to backpack into during my 2010 visit.
Diane and Nigel chose #1611. This (unidentified) sweet little flower grew along the Sterkspruit Falls Trail near the Monks Cowl camp a couple days before the Drakensburg hike above.
Patti and Abi get #43 for the number of characters in their last comment. A scanned print from summer 1996 when I worked for US Fish & Wildlife and lived with this front door view of the Columbia River and Mount Hood in the distance.
Jenn chose #1979. Cape Royal overlook at the end of the North Rim’s scenic drive offers a rare view of the Colorado River in the depths of Grand Canyon.
Gail chose #1013, “the current time.” This panoramic shot of Havasu Falls was taken the one time I hiked into Havasu Canyon, home to the Havasupai people. My favorite shot this week.
Yogi and random chose #1784. Although not the best photo example, this shot certainly shows the magic of inversion at Grand Canyon.
Jeff and Fran chose #1240, because they “watched the Baja 1000 as they sped past post 240.” The local terrain on the far side of the old and new Navajo Bridges might be as rugged as some of the Baja track.
Jodee and Bill chose #5470. Because of their recent travels along the east coast they may have seen some sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean. Yet much like me they are not always early risers. Glad I was up for this sunrise over the Indian Ocean near camp in Scottburgh, South Africa during my 2014 visit.
Sherry and David chose #8000. 2014 Artist in Residence Steward Thomson makes photos and high end jewelry. Difficult to tell which inspired which. The pendant is an Australian Boulder Opal. Many national parks sponsor an Artist in Residence program. This was from Grand Canyon but sadly they ended the program.
Sallie and Bill chose #1128, their 61st anniversary next week. I’m guessing in all their years of travel this is not an unfamiliar view of the San Francisco Peaks seen along SR89 heading south towards Flagstaff, Arizona. Happy Anniversary!
My choice this week shows how the Cottonwood tree next to the wash on the property line is showing signs of Autumn here in Yarnell.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below.
