Goodbye old girl

Me & Carson in Vicksburg, AZ 12/04

I’ve been living on the road in some sort of RV for 14 years now so it’s hard to say goodbye old girl to this 5th-wheel.

Most of you know I’ve finally bought the newest and nicest RV of my life. And I’m loving it.

Yet it’s not easy to say goodbye to this old girl.

She’s taken me many places in the last six years.

Not new by any means. This 27 foot 1977 Wilderness has covered some miles.

I made it my own by covering the walls and flat spots with my chachkies stuff.

I learned how to hook up to her alone. OK, there may have been some swearing.

I never really learned to back up very well. But there’s a lot to be said for going forward.

I fixed plumbing leaks and finally paid to replace the water heater. In fact that job introduced me to Mike.

Now as much as I’ve grown comfortable I’ve also been looking to upgrade for several years. Guess now the time was right.

What next? She’s been bought by a neighbor who plans to make her into an art studio. I look forward to seeing this transformation.

Help!   Push the button Please! I’m stuck in the slide out.

My version of “Thing”

Well, not really. Just having fun with one of the few chachkies/decorations that have made it in. More moving today, 50 feet to the little house and old RV. Back and forth. Back and forth….. Sure could use extra hands.

Parked the new RV

Backing in the new RV Yarnell Arizona

Monday, friends with a BIG 1-ton Dodge showed up and gave my truck/5th-wheel a little tug out of the snow.

Snow filled ditch in driveway Yarnell Arizona

Didn’t take much. There’s actually a ditch across the driveway where water runs into the wash next door.

Once the truck was back on paved road Mike backed it right in.

Leveling new 5er Yarnell Arizona

Then to leveled it.

And finally I got to push the button to open the slides. Bedroom first (seen below in front), next desk and entertainment center (on opposite rear

side), and finally the table and recliners (above Mike’s head below).

We’ll now be working on moving in, but first to buy a mattress.

This is my 700th post. I can barely believe I’ve been so prolific in the last 2 years and 2 months. I’ve sure met a lot of wonderful people in the process. Thank you all!

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…

My wheeleastate

I am currently…

…boondocking somewhere in southern Arizona.  In the area, give a shout.
