Postcards from you

Although we may chat, email and read each other’s posts on Facebook I really love receiving postcards from you. I collected and sent postcards as a kid, pre-internet. Guess that was an early form of social media. Yet these gorgeous images tease the traveler in me.

Postcard from Belgrade

I sent Bibi a postcard from South Africa and she reciprocated with two.

“As I write this, you are enjoying South Africa and I will soon be off to India again.

Looking forward to seeing/meeting you this summer!”

Bibi’s posts as an expat in Serbia have prompted me to put her country on my bucket list. We unfortunately didn’t get to meet this summer yet I have high hopes of our greeting each other in real time in the future.

Postcard from India

And another postcard from India.  How I love these bright colors.

“Greetings from Dharamshala, India, located in the foothills of the Himalayas and

home to the Dalai Lama. Sending you the Green Tara, but can’t recall what it

                 symbolizes. Something good!”

Postcard from North Carolina

I think I sent a postcard to Debi from Grand Canyon last year, and if I didn’t I owe her one. She sent this postcard from North Carolina.

“The scene on the front was likely at the State Park south of Ft. Fisher. Nothing but

Sand dunes, ocean and wildlife. A slice of Heaven! I’m so happy to know you! Have

a great summer at the Grand Canyon!”

I’m really happy to know you too and hope we meet someday on a glorious beach, or anywhere at all. BTW, would love to see more posts on your blog.

Post card from New Hampshire

Melissa is a postcrosser http://www.postcrossing.com/ sending and receiving postcards around the world. I sent her a postcard from South Africa and she sent this one from New Hampshire.  This looks like my kind of place.

“This is a place have spent many hours at! I sit on these rocks and enjoy the beauty

surrounding me! On the warm days I may jump in or just dip my toes in! I found

this spot back in 1981 and continue to visit whenever I can. I love the rocks, water

and all the trees in their seasonal colors! I hope this finds you happy and well!”

I can tell Melissa likes color as not only is her special place brilliant, the postcard is written in red, green, orange, blue and purple. How fun!

Postcard from France

While Diane was on holiday she sent this postcard from France.

“Weather very up and down, mostly down. Carcassonne is stunning. Off to

Barcelona tomorrow then we go cruising on the Med.”

Although Western Europe hasn’t been high on my list Diane’s blog posts with outstanding images boosts it a little higher.  I would love to visit some castles.

Postage Stamps from Serbia, India and France

On top of the tantalizing images from around the world the foreign stamps are quite fun and different than what I’m used to seeing.

Postcards displayed in RV

I’m loving this postcard receiving, and sending. So I’m going to send a postcard from Grand Canyon to the first 6 commenters. Let’s keep this rolling. If you’d like to send me a postcard just let me know and I’ll send you my current snail mail address.

So what will it take to get a postcard from you?

Postcards from South Africa follow up

When I posted about sending postcards from South Africa I was surprised how many of you, who are actively online, still like to get a postcard by snail-mail.

Funny postcard from SA

My original idea was to see how long it took to get mail from South Africa to other parts of the world.  Surprisingly, the average was about two weeks although MB’s card made it in five days to Washington while it took three weeks for Jonker’s card to arrive and he lives in South Africa.  At least it seems that most of the postcards did arrive eventually.

Cheetah postcard from SA

I sent 10 postcards to readers, plus a few to other friends, and all but two are accounted for.  If you’d like to see a few of them check out their posts at Karen from FabGrandma,  Diane from Life in Charente, and Alan from Yogi’s Den.

South African stamps

There was rumor of a postal strike in South Africa but according to South African Postal Services,  “The strike is taking place only at Witspos Mail Centre in Johannesburg and Tshwane Mail Centre in Pretoria. Local mail in other provinces is not affected.  The strike, which started on 14 February this year, was declared illegal on 19 February.”  So I don’t think this had any impact.

Received postcards

Maybe this is the start of something bigger.  I have now received three postcards from fellow bloggers.  One from a Yankee in Belgrade plus she sent one from her recent travels to India.  And  Debi sent a card from North Carolina where she lives on the beach.

Postcard from SAMREC PE SA

This was fun and I hope to continue the tradition of sending postcards from my travels.

How about you?  Do you like to receive snail mail that isn’t a bill?  Think about sending postcards to your family, friends, and fellow bloggers.  Even to me.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
