18 miles of rough one lane winding road between the ponderosas and almost two hours later with a view stop along the way.
I finally reached Point Sublime.
So aptly named that I wanted to stay for a while, or at least over night.

But I had no camp gear and the hard leather bucket seats in the truck are uncomfortable enough just to sit on let alone sleep.
Not to mention an incoming storm and the lack of required permit to stay, although I considered calling the backcountry office to remedy the last because I actually had three bars on my cell. Oh to wake up to the sunrise over Sublime.
Instead I left for what I was told a better route going north into the Kaibab National Forest but about two miles along a downed aspen blocked the way. Too high to drive over and don’t own a chain saw so made an eight point turn around to drive the torturous 18-miles back.

I wasn’t particularly happy about the return trip and drove it a bit faster as I wanted out of the forest and off this gnarly road before dark. And that’s why my truck was so muddy.
