Another beautiful sunset from Toroweap. This actually comes from the first night camped there and I’ve already showed you the second night. After the long and bumpy ride we set up camp in a hurry and quickly walked the mile to the rim. Looking down on the Colorado River in the last light, Lava Falls rapid could be faintly heard.

Two nights before I left the North Rim I made it to Cape Royal for my last sunset over the canyon for several months to come. The amazing light and the shadow shapes captured my imagination.
The resident Cape Royal Ravens hung around as if to say goodbye.
Ah, the golden hour.
When shadows fill the canyon.
And the temples glow.
Casting sharp-edged shadow copies of the terrain.
As the sun set the crescent moon showed.
I reluctantly bid good night and goodbye to the Grand Canyon vowing to return in the spring.

After seeing the sun dog and halo we rushed to the rim for sunset at Toroweap.
I found a stable looking rock and set up the new tripod.
With Jake just above and behind me I kept bugging him about camera settings. Turning knobs back and forth, clicking away.
The colors of the sky reflected the canyon walls.
Then the colors faded.
And we walked the mile back to camp.
