Photo prints available

Sunset railroad tracks Kirkland ArizonaOK, I’m taking it to the next level and making photo prints available on my new website with Fine Art America at glolmsted.com.  Many of you have commented on the quality of my photos and I thank you.  I believe with practice I keep getting better.  Trust me my ego absorbs all your “likes” but I also need honest critiques.  Really, it’s how I can continue to improve.

Elephant with baby Kruger National Park South AfricaI started by asking on Facebook for suggestions of websites to make photo prints available for sale.  Then I checked them out looking at the free options first.  But even the “premium” options are reasonable at $25-50/yr.  Smugmug offers lots of options at $50+/year and I truly considered them as the first site looked at.  Pixels was also a consideration which I ultimately became part of without realizing.  Twenty20 seemed focused on mobile which I do little of.  500px I am still considering.  And Fine Art America also offering many options including e-commerce to my website and social media.  Most of these sites offer a free option or at least a free trial.  I’m sure everyone has different needs so each site could work.  I’d be interested if you’re using anybody else.

BloggerFest 2017So after pushing all the buttons and looking at discussions, artists, products, and reviews, I joined the free Fine Art America (FAA).  And just to play around advertised an event I’ll be attending 2017 Blogger-Fest under the title (which was required) QEO, Quartzsite Executive Officer.  I am in no way organizing this event but will be there.

Moon set Yarnell Arizona Then I spent 18 hours learning and uploading a few photos now available for sale.  Upload is sometimes kind of slow but maybe it’s just my connection.  I can’t do anything else online while uploading images.  But slower is the process of choosing and post-processing what I consider the “best” while asking myself, would I want this hanging on my wall?  I’ll be constantly adding new photos.

Brown pelicans Corvina Beach Salton Sea Senic Recreation Area CaliforniaAfter only a few days I opted to spend the $30 for a year so I can upload more than 25 photos and utilize their marketing package which allows me to advertise and add a cart here and on Facebook, if I can figure out how to do it.  I did add an advertisement on the side bar here. And I opened a new Facebook page exclusively for photography.  Also, as a “premium” member I can use my own personally owned custom domain that I’ve paid for since 2008 and never used but had considered it being a photography website.  All this took much figuring out with the help of fellow FAA members and support from Dotster where I bought my domains.  Believe me, I’m no whiz at this website stuff although this went faster than creating the blog.  Definitely a continued learning process, much like the photography itself.  If you have problems with the site please let me know as I’m sure there are still bugs to kick out.

Inversion North Rim Grand Canyon National Park ArizonaWhile learning more about the products available I discovered that Fine Art America is Pixels.com.  They produce prints in various sizes, surfaces, and framing options, plus greeting cards, tote bags, phone cases and more.  Order fulfillment is by Fine Art America and can be returned “for any reason” within 30 days for a full refund of the purchase price.  Prices look reasonable and I earn a few bucks.

White-Skipper on lupine FR425 Kaibab National Forest ArizonaIf you see an image on the blog you’re interested in that isn’t yet available for print please let me know (hover over the pic and note the label) and I’ll add it to the shop.  Clicking on an image that is available will take you directly to the shopping page.  Then it’s up to you.

Elephants Addo Elephant National Park South AfricaNow I need to advertise and would greatly appreciate your help, if so inclined.  If you would like the chance to win a Free 20×13 print or poster on acid-free paper using archival inks to guarantee that they last a lifetime without fading or loss of color, your choice of photo (or smaller print, coffee cup, tote bag, or four greeting cards) then enter below.  Giveaway will run for three weeks and winner will be announced February 1, 2017.  Thanks for all your support.

Tall fall aspen

Fall aspen along FR610 Kaibab National Forest Arizona

Quacking aspen grow tall and straight very quickly in the tree world living only 100-150 years.  Amongst the trees growing on the Kaibab Plateau that isn’t very old compared to the slow growing 300-500 year old Ponderosa Pines.  When was the last time you laid back down on the ground to stare up into the tree tops?

Foto Friday Fun 1

Starting up this new idea of Foto Friday Fun at Geogypsytraveler because I have SO many photographs to share.  Last Sunday I asked readers to leave a number in their comment to help me choose which photo(s) to display.

With only nine numbers to choose from I decided to show them all and let you decide which is your favorite.

Conte drawing of mountains Wenatchee WA

1. Barb from Live and Learn choose #68 as her age for another month.  Hope I don’t get in trouble for giving that away.  Yet I know she’s not as old as the foothills in this conté drawing I did back in 1987 when living and going to school in Wenatchee, Washington.

Grass seed head Echo Ravine trail Golden Gate Highlands NP SA

2. Kathy wrote “I love all your photos. How about 1947.”  First of all, thank you.  I love to see and photograph both the big and small of nature.  These grass seed heads grew along Echo Ravine trail at Golden Gate Highlands National Park South Africa.  (It’s not upside down.)

Sunset Toroweap

3. Jo of Memorable Meanders commented, “My choice number is 60 being the age I turned this year and although I thought I was happy reaching the big six-oh, I also find myself panicking at the significance of being ‘old’! Am I crazy or what?”  You are wonderfully crazy my 60-is-the-new-40 friend.  Almost as crazy as me out on the rocks taking this photo at Toroweap, Grand Canyon National Park.  An iconic view that few see with their own eyes.

(Notice an age theme going on here?)

Ginkgo Hogsback Arboretum Hogsback SA

4. AJ at Ouch My Back Hurts chose 3913 for no particular reason.  That number provides a particularly busy forest view focusing on the center Gingko tree at Hogsback Arboretum South Africa.

Hassayampa River Bridge Wagner Rd AZ

5. Diane from France and Life in Charente writes that her favourite number is 356.  One of my favorite old bridges crosses the Hassayampa River and matches her number, although the lemon truck parked on it was Not a favorite.  (Did I tell you I traded it in?  Photo at the bottom of the new ride.)

Burchell's Zebra Addo Elephant NP SA

6. New reader Lu-Gerda, shares stories from travels in her home country of South Africa and chose photo 3297.  Taken from a place not far from her Mossel Bay home, this Burchell’s Zebra dinned on the grasses of Addo Elephant National Park.

White elephant painted on rock SR89 Yarnell Hill AZ

7. Bibi from Yankee in Belgrade wrote, “Love this little zebra.  How about #48?”  Glad you liked last week’s Zebra and hope you like the one above as well.  However your number is a very different kind of animal found painted on a rock at a curve on the Yarnell Hill Road.

Rock weighted fence across sandstone along Wire Pass trail GRSE NM UT

8. Back to the age thing, Melissa wrote, “My number is 946.  My birthday, 9/4/60, minus the zero!”  Looks like zero gravity works for this fence.  It’s not easy to dig a fence-post hole in sandstone like found along Wire Pass trail to Buckskin Gulch.

Red hot poker Echo Ravine trail Golden Gate Highlands NP SA

9. Chris at Gardening and the Spanish way asks for 1972, which happens to be the year I graduated from high school.  But instead of showing you a photo of me from then I’ll share this Red Hot Poker hosting a butterfly taken in South Africa.

New truck & 5er Yarnell AZ

The new to me truck with my RV home

So how did they do?  Which number is your favorite?

Please pick a number between 1 and 4075 to be considered for next week’s Foto Friday Fun.

Thanks for playing along.

Hi, I’m Gaelyn, the Geogypsy

I retired after 29 summer seasons as a Park Ranger, traveling solo for 40+ years. My passions include travel, connecting to nature, photography, and sharing stories.

I started exploring US National Parks in 1977 and 20 years later became a seasonal Park Ranger.  I’ve lived full-time in a RV for 30 years working summers and playing winters.  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow old, other than grow up.

Let’s share our stories.  Here’s more of mine…
