Yesterday we played in Deer Creek Falls and today we continued rafting the Colorado River, next stop Matkatamiba.
High water made it easy to pull in at Matkat, as it’s called, for a little hike up a narrow side canyon.
Right before leaving for this trip I was sent this video of a recent flood through this canyon. Thank goodness it didn’t look like that. Yet what a great reminder about flood waters in canyons.
It’s no easy feat to pull two big rafts into the narrow canyon.
There are two routes to get to the Patio. One required walking upstream and chimneying up a slot.
I chose the easier way with some of the others.
Water constantly carves the Patio out of the Tapeats Sandstone.
Providing an awesome place to play or relax.
Then back to the river and on to Havasu Creek for more water play.
