My drive into the forest to seek fall colors took me to the end of Forest Road 610 in the Kaibab National Forest and the Saddle Mountain trailhead.
Such a Grand view. To the southeast across the canyon the Little Colorado River cuts through Navajo land.
To the northeast the Colorado River cuts through the Marble Plateau with the Vermilion Cliffs barely visible in the distance.
A few penstemon still linger near the warm rim.
The trail called my name, but shadows grew long.
I paused a moment to see who’d been carving on the trees.
Then hit the road home through the colorful fall aspen.
