Lesson learned, don’t buy so much stuff that I need to also buy another piece of luggage to get it all home from South Africa.
Left Cape Town Wed at 2pm for a two hour flight to Johannesburg. Then a four hour layover with rechecking luggage plus through security twice and I was back in the air for 16 hours to New York’s JFK. Had three hours there to once again recheck the luggage because it was my port of entry into the US. Then the final five hour leg to Phoenix. Plus a two hour shuttle ride to Prescott where Berta picked me up, almost literally as I was totally exhausted.
Thursday night’s Yarnell sunset didn’t disappoint as I wearily looked at all the unpacking to leave for another day. Was so nice to sleep in my own bed and know I didn’t have to get too early in the morning.
After a trip to the dentist on Friday I started to dig out the goodies gathered for myself and friends. This doesn’t include all the cute clothes I bought either.
Saturday I caught up with reading many blogs. But it seems I’m falling asleep at the computer earlier than usual. My biological clock seems to want me in bed by 10pm and up 5:30am. Not my past pattern at home when I’m more like 11/12 to 7 asleep.
And Sunday I pulled out all the receipts from this 46 day journey and started to figure out what I really spent.
Still haven’t unpacked everything and the house is a mess. Oh well, guess I have some time as I don’t return to Grand Canyon until the end of April, or to South Africa until at least late fall.
Yet, there’s no place like home.
