This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including South Africa, Grand Canyon, class photo from 1962, and more.

Jo chose #5005.  One of several Mexican Golden Poppies seen along the Palm Canyon trail in Anza Borrego Desert State Park in February 2015.

Doris chose #4958.  A common sight when out early in the morning on safari to see lions still hanging out on the warm pavement where they slept the night before.  This group in Kruger National Park look a little lean like a kill would be in order.  South Africa visit 2-18-14.

Lisa chose #2205.  A familiar view for visitors to the North Rim Grand Canyon from the Lodge veranda.  Rangers get paid in sunsets.

Jennifer chose #92.  My third grade class photo from 1962.  Can you find me?

Sherry chose #6968.  While driving along the N12 north of George, South Africa some flowers caught our eyes that were worthy of a stop and bonus was several Blue-spotted Girdled lizards.

Rita chose #777.  A drive by shot on the Hoover Dam taken 10-29-09.  I’ve never stopped to tour this wall of concrete that holds back the Colorado River for Lake Mead, a reservoir that is looking like a puddle now days.  However, the Art Nouveau structures are rather intriguing.  Now days, you drive over the finished bridge seen under construction in the background.

Sue chose #1989, “for the first time I read the book Animal Dreams.”  One of two in a panoramic shot of the Drakensburg Mountains above camp after hiking in the day before.  Was my first trip to South Africa in 3-17-10.

Dale chose #1008, one of two in a panorama.  The eastern view from Point Imperial on the North Rim offers a view of Marble Canyon, where the Colorado River cuts through the land.

Jeff chose #1601, “the time on my 24 hr clock as I type this.”  This shot of fall ferns on the North Rim Grand Canyon was taken at 10:26am, so covered his time with the numbers in a different order.

Cathy chose #1960.  Monks Cowl, showed between breaks in the clouds over the Drakensburg Mountains on the same hike as a above.

Diane and Nigel chose #1605.  Taken right after Jeff’s shot above.

Che chose #09360.  During the Superbloom of 2016 Death Valley showed color from the Desert Gold Wildflowers.

Yogi chose #6748.  While hiking the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park in South Africa these bones were seen.

Melissa chose #2705, “for Deja’s Birthday week.”  I think she’d like to wander the trails at Forever Resort’s Badplass facility plus enjoy soaking in the warm water or thermal water slides.

My choice as I was labeling photos last June is a sandstone pipe formation in a place I never shared because it was so uncrowded I’d like to keep it that way.

Feels like some of these stories are rather short.  Well so am I, and also short on time lately.  I’m still in the small camper and struggling with a signal unless I move to a Bryce parking lot.  As I schedule this to go out, I’m in the overflow lot across from the visitor center.  I am also way behind reading blogs.  Please bear with me.  I’m too stubborn to give on this.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers (with lots of granddaughter birthdays) including several panoramas, sunset colors, and a squirrely Ranger.

Jim and Diana chose #172, one of four in a panorama.  While working at Oregon Caves the summer of 2007 I made a journey to Crater Lake National Park.

Diane and Nigel chose #605, one of three in a panorama.  And a view they will recognize from their visit to Grand Canyon National Park.  Although this sunset was shot in 2009.  Rangers get paid in sunsets.

Jennifer chose #0705, “for my granddaughter’s birthday!”  I love to visit Death Valley National Park’s Mesquite Sand Dunes during winter, 2-18-16, but not when the wind is blowing.  Or for a May birthday when the temperatures could exceed 100°F.  But I was there for the Superbloom.

Lisa chose #1405, “the last day of online schooling!”  Ranger Jeremy dressed as a Kaibab squirrel is online, but not schooling.

Yogi and random dot org chose #713.  Driving to camp at Lone Rock Beach along Lake Powell.  Note how low the water was in 2009 by the “bathtub ring”, or line, on Lone Rock.

Jeff chose #3550, “the number of jigsaw puzzle pieces we’ve placed during the lockdown.”  With all the bluish foreground this 1-9-15 sunset shot would be a bear as a puzzle.  However, Jeff has visited Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in California so many times he might not have a problem.

Melissa chose #2114, for her granddaughter’s May birthday.  Any time after May 15th would be a delightful time to visit the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.  You would drive by Crane Lake on the Kaibab National Forest on the way.  It might look like a pond, but in Arizona it’s a lake.

Sherry chose #1625, one of three in a panorama.  While working at the North Rim I would frequently camp on days off at Marble View on the Kaibab National Forest.  I especially enjoyed watching monsoon storms from there like this one 7-26-10.

Rita chose #8934.  During 2014 at the North Rim this was my RV window view and I enjoyed many sunsets.

Sallie and Bill chose #526, “for my younger granddaughters birthday.”  One of five in yet another panorama sunset taken in May 2009 from my camp along House Rock Valley Road of the Southern Cockscomb in Utah.

My choice this week, one of the two tunnels in Red Canyon on the Dixie National Forest along SR12 headed to Bryce Canyon National Park.

I still have limited signal from the camper in Bryce and have to roll to a parking lot to get online.  Hope to have my 5th-wheel here soon and the booster so I can get online from home.  Going to take me a while to catch up reading blog posts.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including Grand Canyon through the years, South African wildlife, and a little me.

Jim and Diana chose #179.  There are three ways to get to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of Grand Canyon, hike like I did the first time in 2008, when I saw these mules another way, and you can raft along the Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry which I haven’t done yet.

Diane and Nigel chose #105.  She is so good at close-up shots of birds, plants, and insects.  This is a feeble attempt at lichen on dead wood along the Cave Creek trail in Siskiyou National Forest, Oregon when I worked at Oregon Caves in 2007.  To give perspective, the pine needles are barely 1/2 inch/1.27 cm long.

Rita chose #1865.  She doesn’t like snakes so I hope this Sun lizard doesn’t fall in the same category.  Saw these quite regularly around stream crossings while hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains in South Africa in 2010.

Jeff chose #1890, “year the Sisters of Mercy began medical facilities in northern San Diego.”  I was a long ways from medical facilities on the above mentioned hike where I found these small pieces of blue agate along a section of basalt on the trail.

Sherry chose #5820 for the date of this posting.  I’ve posted much in the ten summers at the North Rim Grand Canyon and took way more photos than could be shared so I truly love coming across a gem like this.  An evening shot before sunset during the end of September monsoon showed crepuscular rays and a touch of cloudy inversion around Oza and Isis Buttes in 2016.

Yogi chose #7321.  Almost as good as late light above is the morning light on Grand Canyon’s Angels Gate behind the Deva and Brahma temples.  Also taken during September monsoon, this time in 2014, low clouds can be seen in the distance hanging over the San Francisco Peaks.

Jo chose #5010, for the 1st of May when her South African “lockdown restrictions were slightly eased primarily to get our economy back onto its feet again.”  Kruger National Park, where this shot of birds and hippos was taken in 2014, is currently open.

Sallie and Bill chose #362, in honor of Foto Friday Fun number’s this week.  Another morning shot from the North Rim across Grand Canyon taken the end of June my first season there in 2008.

Doris chose #4755.  Look closely in the tall grass for a baby elephant keeping close to Mom in Kruger National Park, South Africa during my 2014 visit.

Lisa chose #60, “for the number of dog and human fingers and toes in the house currently.”  There would have been 80 of the same, all human, when this shot was taken in April 1956 of me and my dad in Hinsdale, Illinois.  Cool car.

Melissa chose #2782, “for my May daughter Deja, who you are getting to know quite well at Christmas time, lately!”  She refers to her daughter ordering my calendar for Mom’s present.  But you all may be getting to know this view quite well, taken from the North Rim Grand Canyon looking across Widforss Point to Oza and Isis Buttes under more crepuscular rays during September monsoon 2010.

My choice from Mary’s garden pond are the tiny fishes and a water snake.  (Sorry Rita.)
