This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including panoramas, slot canyons, South Africa, and more.
Jim and Diana chose #123, a panorama from 8-31-07. While working as a Park Guide at Oregon Caves I lived/hosted the Siskiyou National Forest primitive Cave Creek campground, 18 sites and never half full. This view of my “yard” from Cave Creek.
Jo chose #2606, a nice entry drive to the Old Mill Lodge where I stayed a night during my second visit to South Africa. The first visit in 2010 I rode an ostrich in the Outdshoorn area and there was way more to see and do.
Cathy chose #3817. The end of the road at Jumpup Point felt like a “Thelma and Louise” moment. But instead of driving off the edge into the Grand Canyon, I set up my tent between those two trees, the only shade around.
Rita chose #4297, one of three in a panorama. The bar at Gelbek restaurant in West Coast National Park in Langebaan, South Africa felt like a transport back in time. Instead of ordering a drink I continued to explore this coastal park full of birds and other wildlife.
Yogi chose #1229, another panorama taken 9-10-09. That’s me on Navajo Bridge above the Colorado River. I stopped here after exploring Antelope Slot Canyon in Page, Arizona. (See the pics below to tease him into a Southwest trip now that he’s retired, and after travel is safe once again.)
Jeff chose #629, “the date our kitchen countertops arrive.” I hope they are put in by now. 5-14-09 was the date of my first hike in a slot canyon, Buckskin Gulch trail winds between walls of water-shaped sandstone.
Diane and Nigel also chose #2606. A favorite time for shooting, sunset to the far right with Earth Shadows from temples in Grand Canyon from the North Rim. Rangers get paid in sunsets.
Doris chose #9142, one of six in a panorama of Augrabies Falls, South Africa.
Pat chose #1632, “the 23-hour clock time now here.” Hope this shot reminds her of the time we experienced this Colorado River view from Walhalla overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Sherry chose #113, “the number of days I have now been stuck in one place…” Imagine being stuck in a cliff dwelling that long because you couldn’t climb a ladder to leave. The Mesa Verde National Park museum displays tools made by the Ancestral Puebloans who lived there in the past. Under the current circumstances, one might learn a new survival skill.
While searching for your choices I came across some shots taken in Antelope Slot Canyon from my 9-10-09 tour that looked good enough to process and share. Mother Nature is the best artist and the force of water a powerful medium.
