This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including parks both worked and visited, Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa, and slot canyons.

Bonnie chose #1130.  A noon-time shaft of light streaks into Antelope Slot Canyon near Page, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation.  Tours required but as of this publication closed due to COVID.

Jim and Diana chose #81.  More sandstone walls but this time at Mesa Verde National Park from my 2005 summer season.  That big ladder climbs 62 feet into the Balcony House cliff dwelling where I led a tour.

Lisa chose #1791.  Monks Cowl camp view of the Drakensburg Mountains, South Africa.  A couple days later I hiked into those mountains as you’ll see below.

Diane and Nigel chose #708.  My second season at the North Rim Grand Canyon in 2009 taken at the Point Imperial overlook.

Then compare to a recent Facebook memory of my first Ranger job in 1992 at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Washington.

Cathy chose #1478.  Cape Royal, my favorite place for sunsets on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park with the last light shining on Woton’s Throne.

Yogi and random dot org chose #2333.  Another perspective of the Grand Canyon, this time from Toroweap’s iconic 3000 foot drop.

Jo chose #4850.  Klipspringers, an animal she’s probably seen in her home country of South Africa.  These two were in Kruger National Park during my 2014 visit.

Doris chose #2000.  Clouds hung over the Drakensburg Mountains while hiking in for an overnight camp.

Sherry chose #9118, her grandson’s birth date.  Although she’s been sweltering in the east this summer I hope this snowy scene will cool her off, yet none of this white stuff appears for that special birthday next month.  This was my RV window view of the Vermilion Cliffs on February 1, 2016 when I wintered in Kanab, Utah.

Sallie and Bill chose #8192.  A small slot canyon along the White Domes Trail in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada from a January 2016 visit.

Jeff chose #1992, “the last time Comet Swift-Tuttle replenished the debris that creates the Perseid Meteor Shower.”  Here I am hiking in the Drakensburg after a downpour rain shower.

My first choice, a Facebook memory from 8-12-18 of sunset over the Date Creek Mountains lighting up SR89 on the Yarnell Hill.

And a second choice from Wednesday when I got lost in my archives for World Elephant Day.  Objects in mirror may appear closer.  Kruger National Park South Africa.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including moonrise and sunrise in California, and sunset in South Africa where elephants roam, plus more.

Rita chose #576.  The first time I hiked to Buckskin Gulch in 2009 I didn’t have any idea what a slot canyon was and loved the texture and patterns of the water sculpted sandstone in Wire Pass on the way.

Jim and Diana chose #88.  Me, at six-years old in 1960, for a school picture in Hinsdale, Illinois.

Yogi and Random dot org chose #3423.  I haven’t practiced much at shooting the stars but do try to get out for full moon rises if I can.  This shot from a March 2017 visit to the Alabama Hills, in California.

Jo chose #5050 and is a bird lover so will understand this shot.  When viewing birds from a hide in Kruger National Park some people have to be reminded to be quiet.

Jennifer chose #7767.  The 2006 Warm Fire on the Kaibab National Forest opened up a spectacular view east across House Rock Valley, past the Paria Plateau and Echo Cliffs to the distant Navajo Mountain about 60 miles away.  Now I see that 10,000 foot peak from Bryce and have shared it in photos from Yovimpa Point.

Diane and Nigel chose #3107.  A rare for me sunrise shot taken from camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California on 1-8-15.

Cathy chose #3754.  I don’t spend near enough time on any coast so am fascinated by crashing waves.  This rocky shoreline was along the Indian Ocean at Kidds Beach in South Africa 2-21-13.

Sherry chose #9470.  While visiting Augrabies Falls in South Africa for my birthday we stopped at Echo Corner along a bend in the Orange River.  We didn’t hear any echo.

Jeff chose #0832, “the moment when the nations Largest horizontal eruption occurred on March 18, 1980.”  Except it was May Jeff.  So in between those two months is April, when this shot was taken just one month after the above shot.  What a difference being in South African summer versus spring at Grand Canyon National Park.

Doris chose #8076.  My favorite South African wild animal seen at Addo Elephant National Park in April 2014.

Sue chose #1515 for a special day with a “joy” moment in Joshua Tree National Park.  For me, sunset over the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa provided a moment like that as well.

Sallie and Bill chose #822.  The person on the dune puts its size in perspective at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah.

My choice this week should be my personal theme.  This quote hangs on the gazebo wall along Bristlecone Loop Trail in Bryce Canyon National Park.

Better late than never, been a busy week(end).

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including interesting and varied rock, waterfalls from two different countries, wildlife, and a naked man fishing.

Jo chose #5119.  A thin rock formation called a fin made by the intrusion of quartz into sandstone millions of years ago and later carved by erosion.  This basketball-sized formation was among some of the smallest examples seen while hiking the upper Buckskin Canyon in southern Utah 10-26-15.

Cathy chose #3276.  A Black-necked Heron seen in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa during February 2013.

Jim and Diana chose #95 for a temperature “finally under 100.”  Last week they got a different view of Clearwater Valley where much forest was destroyed during the 1980 eruption of Mt St Helens.  This shot from twelve years later, when I worked there, shows some regrowth in planted areas.

Diane and Nigel chose #2407.  Last light of the day striking cliffs to the east of the Tuweep overlook from the North Rim of Grand Canyon.  My first visit in 2010 to this iconic view down 3000 feet to the Colorado River.

Rita chose #7315.  A morning view from my RV window past the weather station to the canyon walls of Widforss Plateau during the summer 2014 season at Grand Canyon National Park.

Doris chose #6378.  She likes clear views of the sky which I could get with a little boulder hopping in Jumbo Rocks campground at Joshua Tree National Park, California during March, 2015.

Yogi chose #1311.  Driving SR89 north of Flagstaff, Arizona travels across some of the Navajo Reservation through the painted desert.

Sherry chose #9108.  Because of her hiking experience she’ll appreciate this boardwalk to provide safe viewing of the Orange River and waterfall at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa.  Just one of many parks visited in 2014.

Sallie and Bill chose #997.  A peak at Havasu Falls after a long hike down canyon onto the Havasupai Indian Reservation, Arizona.  Camped several nights during this April 2010 experience.

Multiple choices because I can: A scanned print from 1969 along the Illinois River.  When barges went by their undertow sucked water away from the beach.

A random #0482 of an elephant, my favorite animal, in Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa on 4-5-14.

And another oldie I just couldn’t resist  A friend, no longer with us, hiked with me to the hot springs along the Wind River during the summer of 1997 and proceeded to fish.  THE END.
