This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including rocky landscapes in Colorado, Arizona, South Africa and Utah, sunsets, and a waterfall.

Jim and Diana chose #39.  From summer 2005 through an extremely dirty windshield, the San Juan Mountains in Colorado.  One of many places visited nearby when I worked at Mesa Verde National Park.

Lisa chose #1256, a panorama from 9-10-09.  Not sure where I was coming from but this was the view of a stormy sky over the Kaibab Plateau from SR89A.

Yogi and random dot org chose #405.  A hollow rock lined with Chalcedony, often called a Desert Rose, found near Lake Pleasant, Arizona while camping out with my dear friend Berta, who also was a rockhound, for a celebration of my birthday just a few days late 3-29-09.  Yogi understands about long birthday celebrations.

Diane and Nigel chose #1809.  They saw this view of Sky Island and Grand Canyon from the Walhalla overlook while visiting the North Rim.

Cathy chose #1113.  The Vermilion Cliffs as seen from a drive by on SR89A, Arizona.  I’ve driven that stretch of road many times in both directions and still marvel.

Sallie and Bill chose #918 in honor of what would have been her mother’s 110th birthday.  918 was an address of mine as a kid in Illinois.  This waterfall has nothing to do with either.  Saw this, and many other waterfalls, while hiking in Havasu Canyon on the Havasupai Reservation during Spring 2010.

Jo chose #3300.  Saw this dove along a trail while staying at Warmwaterberg Spa in Barrydale, South Africa during my March 2013 visit.  I’m sure she’s seen these in her home country and possibly along the same Route 62 she recommended I drive.

Rita chose #2789, no crawlies.  This rocky outcrop and far view was seen while driving Swartberg Pass in South Africa only days before the previous shot.  Just one of many mountain passes I drove that year.

Sherry chose #347 for the time.  Over many years I took a lot of photos of sunsets in Yarnell Arizona.  The first one taken 12-21-08, and I couldn’t resist the second one with the same number taken 1-26-09.

Doris chose #8953.  An early October 2014 view from my RV parked on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.

Jeff chose #922, “the first day of autumn, and this covid summer can be left behind.”  I’m sure we can all agree that would be nice.  But these shots of the Grand Staircase Escalante were taken in the spring, both from SR89 in Utah, April westward and May east.  Both with the same number.

Jodee and Bill , definitely explorers, chose #4221.  Last week we talked about going to the coast.  Though we were talking about California, this shot was at West Coast National Park Langebaan South Africa.

My choices taken while roving at Natural Bridge overlook in Bryce Canyon National Park.  I just had to laugh (behind my mask) while taking a candid shot of the visitors standing with their backs to the view.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 10 readers including wildlife, sunrises, history, and remembrance.

Jim and Diana chose #46.  Ringtail Cats live in arid environments and not often seen as they are nocturnal.  This one was injured and living at the California Living Museum where I volunteered in Bakersfield in 1989.  They presumably live at Bryce, but I haven’t seen one, yet.

Diane and Nigel chose #1109.  Spring of 2009 after dropping a truckcamper in Kanab I hurried back south to Yarnell to haul the previous 5th-wheel to the North Rim Grand Canyon for the summer.  Echo Cliffs run parallel to SR89 south between Lee’s Ferry and Flagstaff.

Rita chose #9121.  These amazingly brilliant Augrabies flat lizards were everywhere, literally almost underfoot, while observing the waterfall at Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa during March 2014.  (I hope it’s just snakes you don’t like.  )

Lisa chose #5462.  Sunrise over the Indian Ocean from Scottburgh Caravan Park, South Africa, a stop along the way during February 2014 travels.

Jeff chose #2977, “the number of lives lost in the 9/11 attacks.”  During Yarnell Daze these men were working on a memorial for another loss, 19 firefighters in the Yarnell Hill fire.  I pray for the safety of all firefighters especially in these current times and any of you living nearby or in the path of smoke.

Doris chose #8291.  As close as I could zoom from the truck—not allowed to leave vehicle in a South African wildlife park—of the Karoo blue tulip which turned vast plains blue at Mountain Zebra National Park in March 2014.

Jodee and Bill chose #316.  She likes to visit historical places—so may have been here—like Fort Misery at Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, Arizona.  Tells many stories of the old west.

Jo chose #5519, a place she may know in Scottburgh, South Africa.  Same sunrise as above.

Yogi chose #5000, another SW teaser for him.  While visiting the South Rim Grand Canyon for spring 2016 training I had an opportunity to see the canyon from different perspective like this shot from somewhere along the Hermit Road.

Sherry chose #7472.  An attempt to shoot the full moon from Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park on 6-20-16.

My two choices left over from the last post hiking the hoodoos, first towards the bottom of the Queen’s Garden trail where it levels off and enters forest.

The second, still at the bottom now where the forest thins and shortly before heading up the Navajo Loop trail on the Wall Street side.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including several Berta stories, amazing trees, public lands, and parks.  Thanks for the memories.

Jo chose #3502.  After wildlife overload in Addo Elephant National Park this erosional feature on the way out catches my eye.  Being not far from the South African coast I’d guess it’s sandstone.

Jim and Diana chose #53.  During the winter of 2005 I visited a friend in Florida and we went to Disney World where I saw this Tree of Life.

Susie chose #4374, a panorama.  It’s true that most of Utah could/should be a national park.  Sometimes it’s the drive between parks that’s stunning like the Capitol Reef Country Scenic Byway, aka UT24.

Jennifer chose #7000.  Giant boulders like building blocks with trees pushing through the cracks along the Barker Dam trail in Joshua Tree National Park, California.

Sherry chose #9118 for her grandson’s birth date and we should be hearing about that visit soon.  Like soon, or in months anyway, you’ll be hearing about my return to the Sonoran Desert for at least part of the winter, I think.

Diane and Nigel chose #409.  They would have seen this sign when visiting the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park in 2016, and chose one way. 

Jeff chose #395, “our route to travel the eastern Sierra for a week.”  A beautiful area that is currently besieged by forest fires.  A terrible loss.  As was the loss of this baby javelina a sad story seen in Berta’s yard, yet part of the cycle of life.

Cathy chose #0508.  Berta and I went to Bandon, Oregon during the Autumn of 2014 walking the beach regularly.

Rita chose #7398.  A most unique sandstone formation seen hiking in southern Utah.

Jodee and Bill chose #743.  Dropping off Arizona’s Kaibab Plateau headed north provides an excellent view of the geologic Grand Staircase in Utah.

Lisa chose #1209.  Irises marked spring into summer in Yarnell, Arizona.  This shot is special because of the fence Berta and I built, even if it did blow over later.

Doris chose #7654.  I loved the many moods of this familiar bouldery view on the Weaver Mountains in Yarnell, Arizona.  This was my last winter there while caretaking Berta’s house.

My choices are a couple of trees I admire at Bryce Canyon.  I pass this delightfully tall and twisted cedar many times a week walking the five minutes between employee parking and Sunset Point.

This pine hangs out over the edge along the rim trail between Sunrise and Sunset Points.  Have I mentioned these points are 1/2 mile apart and both face east?
