This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including lots of rim-to-rim Grand Canyon, a Forest Snail, and a Royals Royce. Are you wondering if it’s mine?
Cathy chose #0308. These “Toadstools” made of rock, in this case sandstone of varied hardness, should not be eaten. Yet the hike is short and easy within Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah.
Jim and Diana chose #290, “as how many millions of miles Perseverance flew to get to Mars.” The huge block of rock in the foreground has fallen from above and now lies along the North Kaibab trail. It is ~290 million year old Coconino sandstone, the third layer down from the rim of Grand Canyon. Also the third time I hiked rim-to-rim, this in mid-October with friends.
Doris chose #2832. Considering how few creatures I see in the desert I am always amazed by the plethora of burrow holes. These in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. They are everywhere, in every desert I explore.
Diane and Nigel chose #1902. A perfect match as they are classic car buffs. And this one is buffed to a high shine. A 1939 Royals Royce Phantom parked at the North Rim Grand Canyon isn’t what I expected to see in 2010.
Sallie and Bill chose #100. From the first time I hiked rim-to-rim in early May 2008 and saw blooms along Bright Angel trail on the ascent while two days previous it was in the 30°s when leaving the North Rim.
Lisa chose #7986. Just the way I like to see snow, from a distance. Pine Valley Mountains from SR9 headed to St George, Utah, 1-10-16.
Yogi chose #152, a panorama. Another from that first 2008 rim-to-rim hike, entering The Box, a narrow canyon following Bright Angel Creek to Phantom Ranch at the bottom of Grand Canyon.
Jodee and Bill chose #421. One of the rental cabins at Phantom Ranch that I’ve never stayed in. Think way ahead for reservations. There are three ways to get to Phantom Ranch, hike, mule, or boat.
Sherry chose #2121. While camped in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California in 2014, I hiked on Christmas day up Coyote Mountain in search of a snake. I also got this view across the desert to the Santa Rosa Mountains.
Sue got #106 for the number of words in her last comment. Not far from where she lives in Oregon, the Siskiyou National Forest offers amazing diversity of life, including the Forest Snail. This shot from the Cave Creek trail near Oregon Caves.
Jeff chose #5521, “for Cinco de Mayo 2021” and he’s hoping for a SoCal celebration! Should have been a celebration for me to be up for this glorious sunrise over the Indian Ocean, South Africa.
My choice, last light on the Kofa Mountains from my last camp. Wonder what the next view will bring.
