This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including dramatic skies, colorful collections, South African wildlife, and old hippie art.

Sherry chose #4852.  Standing at the rim of Crazy Jug Point watching the storm in awe and feeling the energy.  Nice to have the safety of a camper nearby.

Jeff chose #2739, the miles traveled on this year’s still ongoing road trip.  Part of the 5000 miles covered during my 2014 visit to South Africa took me to Mountain Zebra National Park where I finally saw a Cheetah.  The second #2739 is a just because pick from 6-10-15.  Just because inversion in Grand Canyon is a grand sight to behold.

TreDeuce chose #1357.  Just before Colorado River mile 179 the sedimentary walls of Grand Canyon were covered by igneous rock showing where the lava from Mt Trumbull spilled over the canyon’s rim leaving behind Lava Falls Rapid with a rating of Class 10.  Was a wild ride that I immediately wanted to do again.

Diane and Nigel chose #608.  I know they are intrigued by slot canyons.  Buckskin Gulch was my first slot hiked in 2009.

Jo chose #2205, the time of a guest house arrival.  Here, one of many times to see a sunset over Grand Canyon from the North Rim Lodge, 5-29-15.  #RangersGetPaidinSunsets

Jodee and Bill chose #347.  Hard to believe I was wearing so much makeup in 2009 but I was dressed up for Berta and I going to dinner for my birthday.  Don’t you just love all the cool stuff in background in Berta’s house?

Cathy chose #4207.  A Waterbuck paused in Kruger National Park, South Africa.  Notice a pattern of animal butt shots.

Doris chose #8754.  In 2015, my birthday celebration took me to Grand Canyon National Park where one of my favorite South Rim canyon views happens at the Desert View Watchtower.

Alan and random dot org chose #5285 for a panorama.  Another view from Crazy Jug Point the day after the first shot of the storm.

Rita chose #99.  I used to be more of “collector” and certain items “Made in Japan” caught my eye.  This was all destroyed in my storage shed during the 2013 Yarnell Fire.  Four months after the first shot another #99 of my small knife collection that wasn’t in the fire.

I gave Sallie and Bill #55 for their comment word count from last week.  And that goes back to my Junior year in High School, 1971, art class.  Can you tell I was/am a hippie?

Diane and Nigel chose #3007.  A lovely Grand Canyon view from Parrissawampitts Point along the Rainbow Rim trail when hiking with friends Jim and Gayle on 6-11-15.

Jeff chose #1971, “the year Arches National Monument became a National Park.”  2010, the year I first visited South Africa and hiked the lush green Drakensberg Mountains.

Cathy chose #6001.  A look at Willis Creek off the Skutumpah Road in Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, Utah.  Keep meaning to go back.  Maybe she’ll go with me.

Rita chose #0249.  Giraffes have incredible faces.  Seen at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa 1-26-14.

Alan chose #955.  Textured walls along the Toadstools trail I believe are ancient mud deposits.

Sue chose #2222.  The above shot might be more her thing as a soil scientist.  And she’s probably seen at least some of metal sculptures by Ricardo Breceda displayed at Galleta Meadows Borrego Springs, California.

Sherry chose #5902.  She sees marvelous water birds while kayaking in the east.  Lots of good birding at the Salton Sea in California, but not sure it would be a good place to paddle.

Jo chose #2008.  Maybe she can identify this colorful grasshopper seen near her South African backyard in the Drakensberg Mountains I saw while hiking with her son.

Doris chose #9505.  A turn in the Orange River called Echo Corner—didn’t get an echo—below Augrabies Falls the day I celebrated my 60th birthday in South Africa.

Sallie and Bill chose #819.  Patterns in nature left behind by busy bugs unseen until the bark disappears.  Seen along the Widforss Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona 7-28-09.

My choice, the limestone layers and hoodoos seen in the Dixie National Forest’s Red Canyon along SR12 as I drove to Cedar City last month and was almost washed away leaving the WallyMart.

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including rock, sand, rock from sand, geology, and fossils both real and not.

Jim and Diana chose #99, “as my mom would’ve celebrated that birthday this past week.”  After hiking from Cottonwood campground along the North Kaibab trail to Phantom Ranch I celebrated making the 14 mile trek and wondered if I’d make it back out on the south side of the Colorado River the next day to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, 2008, my first rim-to-rim across Grand Canyon.

Sherry chose #6677.  Thanks to Jeff’s suggestion, I camped and found flowers at Fossil Falls, where there are neither fossils or water falls.

Doris chose #9788.  Beyond the high desert vegetation lies sand dunes, once sand then rock and now sand again, at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Utah.

Sue chose #309, “the month and year that we camped in Alabama Hills.”  They’d probably like to camp, and kayak, at the Kolob Reservoir that I can only hope has more water now than when this panorama was taken 9-22-08.

Rita chose #1214, another panorama.  An upstream view of the Colorado River from Navajo Bridge through Marble Canyon with Vermilion Cliffs to the left and Echo Cliffs to the right.

Diane and Nigel chose #2307.  Walking on the beach in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.  Who’s going where?

Wanda chose #1636.  A collection of 275 million year old ocean fossils gathered while camping on the North Kaibab National Forest at Marble View back in 2010.

Cathy chose #8201.  Entrance to a short slot canyon of colorful sandstone on the White Domes Loop trail in Valley Fire State Park.

Jennifer chose #7272.  Once again, #RangersGetPaidinSunsets.  Taken from the North Rim Grand Canyon 9-6-14.

Alan chose #2055.  Five Turkey Vultures in a tree on the Kaibab National Forest in 2010 before I had a decent camera with zoom.

Sallie and Bill get #77 for the number of words in their last comment.  Which, BTW, are always delightful so a younger me says thanks.  Oh how I’ve changed since my first season as a Ranger in the summer of 1992 at Mt St Helens.

Jo chose #917, a goal she’s shooting for as a Top Seller in her Avon business.  No climbing to this top where an old water pipe once ran near Wildrose Canyon in Death Valley National Park.
