This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 14 readers including Grand Canyon, my old store front decorated for Christmas, little ole me, a hyena sound clip, and more snow.

Jo chose #2101.  Looking upstream onto the Colorado River from Tuweep overlook, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.

Gypsy chose #2007, “for my cold stay in Churchill in Manitoba Canada…to see the great polar bears!”  Except for the cold I would love to see Polar Bears but I don’t suspect you saw any Bolete mushrooms, like this one partially eaten along the Arizona trail on the north side of Grand Canyon.

TreDeuce chose #1364.  A stormy day with faint rainbow looking over Saddle Mountain and across the Navajo reservation towards Echo Cliffs far to the east from Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.

Jennifer chose #6764.  Unidentified red flowers from a succulent seen along the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.

Alan chose #2303.  From the same Tuweep visit as first shot taken later in the day looking down stream.

Sallie and Bill got #73 for the number of words in their last comment.  In 1985 my Washington craft store won Tonasket’s Christmas window decoration contest, so you get all three of the shots of the four windows telling the story of the Night Before Christmas.

Susan chose #1112, “my oldest daughter’s birthday.”  I’m hoping the video will load.  The sounds of hyena from my darkened tent in Satara camp Kruger National Park, South Africa.  If not, it’s a sunset rainbow over the Vermilion Cliffs from an overlook along SR89A in the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.

Cathy chose #4438.  This sunset seen along Walker Bay in Hermanus, South Africa where I celebrated my 56th birthday.

Jeff chose #120, for the day Meat Loaf died.  A sad loss.  As was the loss of of 19 firefighters in the 2013 Yarnell Fire, when I lost all these goodies that decorated my old 5th-wheel.

Diane and Nigel chose #2201.  The Gomphothere metal sculpture by Ricardo Breceda, along with other sculptures, can be seen around Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, California.

Doris chose #914.  Looking north at the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument from SR89 in Utah.

Rita chose #9023.  Lots of lava surrounds Sunset Crater in Arizona.

Sue gets #48 for the number of words in her last comment.  A happy me at 1 1/2 years old in Hinsdale, Illinois 1955.

Sherry chose #4202.  Along the coast of the Indian Ocean in Mossel Bay, South Africa the St Blaize Cave reveals evidence of people from the past.  And now there’s a lighthouse on top.

Last week’s Foto Friday Fun I shared being snowbound near Mt St Helens.  So this week, another four days snowbound at Oregon Caves National Monument during January 2004 as a winter volunteer.

After four days of constant snow I wasn’t going anywhere in either the motorhome or truck.  Then DOT showed up and plowed.

Beautiful and buried, the Grand Lodge and visitor center/Chalet.  I don’t remember how many inches.

Thanks for the memories

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including Grand Canyon and other red rock, elephants, scat, and a whole lot of snow.

Jennifer chose #7723.  I always stop at Navajo Bridge along SR89A in Marble Canyon, Arizona in the hopes of seeing Condors.  On this day in May, 2017 I saw several including #30 and #01.

Rita chose #7721.  Pre-sunset on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is a time of long shadows, bonus if there’s clouds.

Diane and Nigel chose #1401.  I saw a lot of wildlife during my first visit to Kruger National Park in South Africa, including the Big Five on the first day.  However, elephants will always be my favorite animal to observe.

Cathy chose #2581.  It’s likely she was there, and maybe even in this photo, for the week long Star Party held on the North Rim Grand Canyon for a week in June 2014.

Jo chose #1201, her youngest grandchild’s seventh birthday.  Colorful sunsets make a nice gift.  This one from my front yard when living in Yarnell, Arizona 4-24-09.

Sue chose #9898, imagining a world 7,876 years from now.  I suspect the Grand Canyon will still be around then and maybe even watching the rise of a full moon through clouds.

Jodee and Bill chose #2345.  This might be appropriate after all the shit they’ve been through remodeling because a car drove into their house.  It’s coyote scat, seen along the Snake Gulch trail in Kanab Creek Wilderness on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.

TreDeuce chose #1361.  Last week with #1359 he also got a shot of the tailless young elephant taking a dust bath in Kruger National Park, South Africa (same 2010 visit as above, different day).

Doris chose #9000.  Sand dunes turned to rock and later carved by wind and water into other worldly shapes are seen in Coyote Buttes along the trail to the Wave.

Alan and random dot org chose #5231.  More sandstone, similar area a above, along the Upper Buckskin trail.

Gypsy chose #4769.  I learned to blow glass in the late 1980s so was doubly impressed by this mobile studio.  Hopi artist, Ramson Lomatewama, creates amazing glass pieces and was set up at the 2014 Heritage Days on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.  The second shot, a piece I bought a few years later of the sunrise corn maiden.

Sallie and Bill chose #352.  A birthday bouquet from Berta brightened my 5th-wheel as much as sunshine in 2009 living in Yarnell, Arizona.

Lately, I’ve seen many photos of snow posted by friends on FB so thought this series taken over a couple days the end of January, 1996 was appropriate.  Most of you know I don’t like snow.  I grew up with snow in northern Illinois.

I was a winter volunteer in the maintenance division at Mt St Helens’ remote Pine Creek Work Station living in government housing.

This was my window view at 22 inches of snow and before the next six inches fell.

After four days snowed-in, a monster truck snow-blower arrived to clear trail.  First thing another volunteer and I did was drive her VW bug, past 8-mile Falls, to the town of Cougar, about 20 miles away, to eat.  Pie first because we could.

Southeast side of Mt St Helens.  Wasn’t many days later as it all melted and washed out roads that we were evacuated by helicopter.

Thanks for the memories

This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including holes in rock both natural and human made, of course there’s rock, and a tailless elephant too.

Jo chose #7700.  A very rare shot taken through a window in a tunnel in Zion National Park.  Winter is the only time it’s quiet enough in the park to slow down in the tunnel, or maybe even stop like we did here.

Diane and Nigel chose #701.  Met up with Berta in Flagstaff and we had breakfast at this Howard Johnson’s Railway Restaurant with nostalgia for the historic railroads.

Melissa chose #650.  There sits the remains of two dwellings on each side of Box Canyon at Wupatki National Monument, Arizona.

Cathy chose #3883, a mirror image number.  It’s almost a mirror image on each side of the drainage below Jumpup Point, a drainage that eventually flows into the Grand Canyon.

Gypsy chose #1212, when she traveled in North Carolina.  I traveled on BLM Road 8910, House Rock Valley that sits below the North Kaibab Plateau in Arizona.

TreDeuce chose #1359.  Watched this tailless elephant take a dust bath in Kruger National Park during my first visit to South Africa in March of 2010.

Alan and random dot org chose #8810.  A rather interesting view looking down two stories in the center of Desert View Watchtower on the South Rim Grand Canyon National Park, where I happened to be for my birthday in 2015.

Jennifer chose #6277.  Good thing she likes rocks, as this shot is full of granite boulders in the area of White Tank campground in Joshua Tree National Park.

Sherry chose #2002.  This fin of rock called Angels Window can be walked on top of from the Cape Royal trail on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Sue chose #2022.  Not the best shot I’ve ever taken at Zion National Park, but it’s through a window on their shuttle in the Virgin River Canyon when Pat came to visit summer of 2014.

Jodee and Bill chose #3314.  An unidentified plant seen in Hluhluwe iMfolozi National Park, South Africa.  Maybe Jo or Diane will recognize it.

I have a few photos hanging in a file under 2021 called “because”, where I put and process past photos because I think they deserve a second look.  Like this oldest one from 4-18-10, an arch in Haulapai Canyon on the Havasu Canyon trail, Havasupai Indian Reservation, Arizona.  And more recently from 1-20-21, this panorama of morning light rays on the Plomosa Mountains from a camp just north of Quartzsite, Arizona.
