After hanging out in Pahrump Nevada a couple weeks we (I’m traveling by bus with Tim) rolled to Yucaipa California to look at a shuttle bus for possible new wheeleastate.
I really liked the look with so many windows to bring in the light and views. Sadly, the transmission was bad so a no go.
Without the correct filters I didn’t really watch the eclipse but did see some tree crescents.
From California it was a hot drive to Yuma where Tim’s bus could be parked while we drove Joann’s minivan to Tucson for another possibility of new wheeleastate.
This “vantruck” was perfect and before you know it, I owned it.
What is called a “no build” build (not bolted down) has a queen size bed, small fridge with ice cream bar sized freezer, compost toilet, a couple of old dressers, 400 watts of solar on the roof and all things to make power including a 200 amp hour lithium battery.
Getting late in the day, Tim drove the new wheeleastate and I followed west on Interstate 8 to a favorite BLM camp along Freeman Road.
The almost new, over hard, memory foam bed was brutally impossible to sleep on. Have a topper coming that will hopefully solve that problem (thanks to Slim who bought that from my Amazon wishlist. *More on that coming.)
The next morning I drove my new wheeleastate back to Yuma where I spent the night at Joann’s. No AC means window open with a Sahara blast in the face. Temps were triple digit.
And so the following day I headed north to a cooler Skull Valley to stock my new wheeleastate. Tim would be about an hour behind me. He would be working on the many little things needing repairs while I moved goods from the 5th-wheel. However…
I’m still writing on my phone so this is wonky.
*I made an Amazon wishlist and posted it on my Facebook page. Somehow I hit a “surprise me” button so had no idea who was buying what or when it would be shipped. The response was overwhelming and the entire list was filled. Thanks to all ❣️
The enduring Gypsy saga has wheels and moves on to new adventures.
Such a traveler you are! I am so glad you found new wheels, and Tim helped you out. Your fans are happy to read about your progress!
Looks like you found a good replacement for the truck and camper. Hopefully no more fridge propane and other problems you had to deal with for the last few yeas. Sorry about the ice cream bar freezer though, that might make it hard to even take a pizza out of the box for freezing. Loved the amazon idea, it was so much more fun to fill requests rather than simply send money to a gofundme with who knows how it gets distributed. The personal touch is what I loved and I would bet that is why your list got filled. Hope you get a good buyer for the fifth wheel, and I am curious if the new rig can go the places you could go in your truck on back roads. Either way, it all looks good. Gonna hunt for a kitty soon? I hope so. I loved your relationship with Sierra, and the kitten bonding thing is a true treasure in life. And yes, I do hope you can get another laptop soon. Also love seeing you enjoying time with fellow vagabonds on the road. Hugs to you, Gaelyn.
Glad you found a new home on wheels. Looks good. Wishing you happy travels.
I’m not on Facebook,so have no idea what you have been up to. Hope you experience many happy days in your new home.
WOW !! Love the new truck, and it looks so comfortable with all the mod cons which, I might add is much needed when you spend so much time travelling. Thanks for sharing your exciting life with us Gaelyn. When I was much younger my late husband and our kids did quite a bit of travelling in a mobile caravan and loved every minute of it. Those were the good old days…as they say. By the way I celebrated my 90th birthday this October and all my family were here to celebrate with me. Have a good weekend.
Well gee, I didn’t get you anything on Amazon, but I am happy your list was filled. I had towels and a rug to donate but you didn’t need them, darn. You are blessed with many friends. I wish I had gotten to see your new wheels before you left for the winter. Maybe I will run into you on the road in Jan. Happy camping and be safe.
That’s great news, Gaylen! Your new wheels and home look great! You’ll be able to add some personal touches soon, too. It sure looks nice & roomy.
Havent commented in a while. I was heartbroken to see tragedy you suffered. Looks like you are bouncing back and that is encouraging. I hope some day when you have grieved sufficiently you can do a tribute to Sierra like Ivan did for his little traveling companion Hailey.
Good to see a blog and I love that shot of the tree crescents, interesting. You are doing remarkably well seeing you are still using your phone.
I am delighted that the Amazon list was fulfilled for you though I am sorry that we had a problem with working with .com.
You seem to be very happy with the new set up and I hope that the 5th wheel sells easily. You will then be able to travel at will to wherever.
Take care we think of what you have been through so often. Big hugs from us both, Diane and Nigel.
Love the new wheels but triple digits and no AC?? Envying you the Mr fix it in your life. So glad things are looking up. What a devastating loss. I admire your spunk for sure.
You got a good looking replacement. I’m a little confused about you saying no A/C when what looks like to be A/C in pictures 4 & 5 of the interior of the coach. Maybe you were talking about none while driving?
If you are back in the Yuma are when it cools down I’ll be in Wellton starting 1 November 2023 to 31 January 2024. Let me know if you are able to stop by and I’ll give you directions.
Fantastic rig Gaelyn! So cool to SEE you with it too. I have questions, but by and by. What are mod cons another mentioned? Thanks for your update and see you down the road:)) love, g
Glad to hear of this step forward. And happy you have good friends, (especially the one who can help iron out the inevitable bumps of your new home on wheels.). I’ve got to get more active on FB… had no idea, but I’m glad that wish list thing worked out !
Making it your own is a process that will result in an acceptable level of comfort and utility. Roll on… Roll on.
Hmmmm, thought I commented on this already. Glad to see you’ve got a new space to make your own – I love all the light and that you have strong solar. Gotta figure out some AC or move north all summer.
I was excited about the Amazon wishlist! Make a new one?!
And you get AC put in? I’ll donate to the Fund! I Can’t Imagine living in your part of the country without it!
Love your new home! 8*)
