I thought about moving camp but decided to stay put for sunset clouds around the Cargo Muchacho Mountains. Eventually I’ll head north towards Quartzsite for some functions then to Kofa for February’s full moon.
No rush to move, especially with 70+° days, even when cloudy with the typical desert winter wind. No complaint about sunset clouds.
When the wind rocks the camper I am not inclined to get outside for a walk. Instead I stay inside playing online. My blog went wonky because an automatic renewal on the security certificate didn’t happen as it should. (That’s what makes an URL be “https”.) While I was waiting for that to happen I decided it was past time to update my 2012 Facebook profile photo.
Ended the day with yet another evening of sunset clouds.
Followed by camper rocking wind all night. And clouds whipped across the sky most of the day so I made a time-lapse video you can watch here. Fridge had been off for almost ten hours so I braved the wind to look at the back of the fridge from outside. I banged on some wires and it lit. Guess I have a magic touch. Not. Sunset clouds once again put on a show.
Weekends always get busier with people but that doesn’t bother me if they don’t park too close. Though I don’t particularly like the cranked up sound of the OHVs and the dust they throw up. Not enough rain that afternoon to even moisten the ground. But still enjoyed sunset clouds.
Sunday the temperature dropped to 55° while the wind whipped under gray skies. Not much solar charging going on so it became a good day to read and knit while dreaming about the next week’s activities including meeting up with Sue and Mo in Quartzsite. More about that in the next post.
Rained overnight but still not enough too dampen the ground. Fridge was off more than on over several days. Moved the thermistor again and it turned on. I looked on YouTube for how to change that part. Called RV Lifestyles and ordered the part to the tune of $64. That better work!
First light on Imperial Sand Dunes
So on Tuesday morning I left camp at the Cargo Muchacho Mountains and visited with Joann in Yuma, including a shower and laundry. Then I dumped tanks and bought groceries before heading just north of town back to the VFW/BLM camp. Because the next day I would go to Mexico with Gayle for more more dental surgery.
Cargo Muchacho Mts bumper collection
BTW, I’ll be near the Kofa NWR February 2-5 to shoot the full moon. Care to join Me? https://geogypsytraveler.com/geogypsy-journey/
Good luck with the moon! I shall refrain! Way too cold, storm on the way.
Been what I call cold here, 34° in the morning. Have a couple weeks until full moon.
Nice chill vibe on this post. I love your sunsets! Erratic electric stuff like you are having can drive one bonkers.
A good thump can get a little more life out of a lot of things – lol. Sounds like you are quite happily settling in with your retirement flow in the winter desert. More time for great bumper collections!! Take care & enjoy!!
Dad used to tell me, get a bigger hammer.
Thanks. I’ve been kind of lazy lately. 🙂 Since I bought the fridge part it’s been working. Go figure.
I’ve been wondering about this https thing. How do I get it done? If it’s free, that is.
Thanks
Bobseyes
We talked about it so you’ll get it figured out.
Magical skies. At Bordeaux airport. Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thanks. You know how jealous I am. Safe journey and give Joan a hug from me.
Love the purple. And the two hills holding the sunset:) On your self photo for youtube, I see a rat figure on your hat? If It is, I missed that before:) Brr. I even kept hearing of freezings in Phoenix valley awhile. So I wonder if Quartzsite.
Thanks. That’s a mouse on my madhatter, a finger puppet. Nights have been in the 30s around Q. I have a terrible cold.
Great clouds, but dang it was a cold winter down south this year. Lots of indoor time for sure. Was great seeing you, and back home in Oregon it is even more cold. So I am not complaining about the cold icy wind that kept us company throught most of our southern vacation.
Love this comment Sue. Makes me feel much better about being in warm Florida rather than out west.
It’s been cold. I have a cold. Glad you are safely home. Loved seeing you but not more Silly Als.
Love that picture of Sierra and that you know that area so well that you know where you want to be when and can just head right there whenever. That’s the beauty of having a smaller rig and of boondocking. 70 degrees sounds just right but not camper rocking wind. Fridge problems make me crazy. Love your initial fix it but sorry it didn’t hold. $64 sound like inexpensive for any RV part. Very envious of your meeting Sue and Mo in Quartzite. Also envious of all the friends you have out there in the boonies. You definitely do it right.
Thanks. I told myself to be more social this year but I may now be paying the price with a very nasty cold.
Love those pink tinted dunes!! Sierra is adorable as always. They so often look like they have no bones 🙂 Hope the cold winds move on soon.
Thanks. I wouldn’t mind close to the dunes except for wind and weekends.
I am enjoying by proxy how much you are loving your newly-retired status! It’s been a long time since I was at that stage, but I still remember the feeling of “all the time in the world”. Beautiful sunset — yeah, clouds are almost necessary for good sky shots aren’t they!
Thanks. I’ve always enjoyed my winter retirement and am still not sure about the summers, but will figure it out.
