Moved camp to a parking lot and watched the Mexican moon at the border, then back to BLM-VFW campsite in preparation for yet another move. And the Christmas elf has been moving every night, until…
I picked up supplies and the calendars on my way to the border parking lot where Gayle and I would spend the night (360 video) before walking to Mexico in the morning for her dental appointment. Was a rather different experience watching the Mexican moon.
Good thing I bought ice cream because that greedy elf ate almost all of the opened container.
In the morning, we walked across the border to Gayle’s dentist office.
She was in surgery for almost two hours while the upper implanted posts were removed because her body rejected them.
I went for a quick walk through the tunnel of merchandise that encloses the sidewalks outside of the storefronts, optical shops, and more dentists. Feels like walking the gauntlet. These pics are all taken from a video.
Back to the border parking lot for the night. Unfortunately, low clouds obscured the actual horizon line of the Mexican moon.
That’s what happens when an elf eats almost a half gallon of ice cream.
Invasive Tamarisk trees have thick bark
Returned the next day to the BLM-VFW camp for Gayle’s recovery.
Elf feeling pretty good the next day.
Made a jewelry sale from a “memory” photo posted on Facebook.
I spent the weekend addressing envelopes for calendar shipping. No help from elf.
Clouds built in the evening. Rain was predicted.
Gayle left Monday for Tucson. I watched as mammatus clouds filled the sky and enjoyed the light rain.
Clouds were clearing out at sunset.
Joann picked me up Tuesday morning and I used her rig to get to the post office, along with hordes of others. I’d expected that. Only took an hour. Fortunately I was able to use a case on wheels to haul the heavy pile of calendars.
Still have a few calendars left if you’re interested. $25 each includes shipping in the USA. No guarantee they will be shipped by the end of 2022 because I’m camped in the middle of nowhere once again. I am a happy camper.
Wednesday morning after a little shopping, found me moving to another location with lovely views of the Cargo Muchacho Mountains.
As it is unlikely I’ll get another post out before Christmas I’d like to wish you all Happy Holidays!
I tried to warn him.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you. Love the elf. You have great taste in your choice of ice cream. We can finally get Tillamook here in FL.
Thanks. Tillamook is tasty and affordable. Glad you can get it.
What December adventures on several moves! And what an eye…love the moon on pole. Polemoon. I also have a small roaming one…Rocky Reindeer. Used to be, whoever found, was in hiding again. Now it’s a bit stationary, and peaceful:) Also loved the rainbow halo. Nice catch. Merry Christmas, Holiday, Hannukah to y’all and happy 2023 yippee! p.s. what’s the year on that ol’ AZ gazette? Old are better in my book; more caves, mines showing.
Thanks. I seem to be moving way too frequently this winter. Think I’ll stay in the current beautiful location for 14 days. 😉 My AZ Gazetter says “First edition 1993”. Can that be? I love those atlases and highlight all the roads I’ve driven. Have a wonderful holiday!
Yikes! Sounds like Gayle went through hell with her dental implants. Hope she is feeling better and wonder what her dental plans(dentures?) are now to remedy her condition.
Tillamook or Umpqua icy creams are an exquisite frozen delight. I 50/50 mix mine with yogurt for a truly sublime creamy treat.
‘Cargo Muchacho Mountains’. Had me reaching for my Arizona map as they didn’t come quickly to mind. Turns out they are in Cali.
Tooo Kill Ya, reminds me that I never got around to a Rita this summer. Making up for it lately with Makers Mark Eggnogs and Buckwheat pancakes.
Got out yesterday for my annual Solstice hike and slipped and slide for a few miles along the Little River east of Roseburg in the Cascade foothills and discovered some beautiful falls over some monumental Serpentine rock formations. The light and dark green to black* and marbled rock is dangerously slick when wet. Caution was the order of the day as I was by myself and carrying my classic Olympus OM-1 SLR loaded with Arista B&W 400 film and the backup, the Minolta MND30 digital camera which is turning out to be a pretty good cheap pocket camera.
That Elf has some serious appetites and will probably need a shopping trip soon for a bigger outfit.
We have an ice storm approaching, so the weather is going from cold monsoon wet to interesting, but it is supposed to be 60-degrees for Festivus/Xmas day.
So, You and the Elf have a good Festivus and a great New Year.
*actually a very dark green appearing as black.
Gayle returns to the dentist the 26th to be fitted for the bottom clip-on denture. The top will continue to heal before uppers are made. Since last spring when this process started, she’s gotten very proficient at soft diet. And she likes ice cream. But who doesn’t. Serpentine is slick even when not wet. Bet it was beautiful. Have a happy holiday. Suppose to be 78° here in CA for Christmas.
All that moving makes me tired. But it would be lots easier for you with your little house. Really beautiful and clever moon shots. I’m on the hunt now for Tillamook ice cream. Happy Holidays to you.
Thanks. Way too much moving lately. Good luck finding Tillamook, it’s tasty and affordable. Merry Christmas!
Lots of Elf fun, looks like he has pretty much worn out your AZ Gazetteer.
Wishing you and all elves a Merry Christmas
Though I don’t usually do anything for Christmas, the elf has been fun. Turns out the AZ Gazetteer should be a collectible as it’s a “First edition” from 1993. Merry Christmas!
That’s one mischievous elf! Great shots of the moon. Gayle has a good friend in you. Happy Xmas!
Thanks. Has been a fun month for moon and elf photos.
Hi Gaelyn, I don’t envy your friend Gayle, Hope she will be ok for X,mas.I dread having to go to the dentist. Love your little elf and all the lovely photo’s.Have a wonderful X,mas and sending you all good wishes for the coming New Year. Take care.
Gayle returns to the dentist the 26th to be fit for the bottom denture. Having been through this process myself, it’s not fun, but ultimately nice to have teeth. Have a very merry Christmas!
Oh dear what happens if the body rejects the implants? That does not sound good, are the bottom ones going to be any better?
Love your moon shots, nice to see the difference without a mountain backdrop for a change. You always manage to find something different. You have not mentioned about how Sierra and the elf get along!!!
Have a Happy Christmas and take care. Hugs from us both, Diane and Nigel
Thanks. It was different shooting the moon with no mountain but rather fun playing with the poles. For the most part, Sierra just ignores the elf, unless he get too friendly. Gayle’s bottom implants took and will be used to clip on the denture that isn’t made yet. Merry Christmas to you both.
Beautiful pictures of the moon. Have a Merry Christmas, Gaelyn.
Thanks. Merry Christmas to you from the nearby desert.
Love the blue clouds pic and that gorgeous rainbow halo! Your elf looks like he had lots of fun while you were moving and working. Hard to believe another holiday season is behind us. Best wishes for a happy 2023!!
Thanks. Elf brought some fun to an otherwise quiet Christmas.
That elf has an eating disorder!!
Love reading and looking at photos of your adventures.
I love my calendar!!
Great sky photos!!
I hope you had a great Christmas.
Thanks. Glad you like the calendar shots. Had a delightfully quiet Christmas. That elf, eats what I eat, so…
Your little elf buddy is hilarious!! I am reading backwards so I wondered about him in your subsequent posts — sure glad I scrolled back to see this hilarious post. Too funny. It’s too bad the implants didn’t work out for your friend. The moon is beautiful and shines for all of us — borders are not important in the natural world. I wish they weren’t at all. Happy New Year!!
Thanks. I didn’t expect to have so much fun with the elf. I too wish borders weren’t so important.
