After three weeks away from home I’m catching up on everything yet struggling with travelers Montezuma’s Midwest’s revenge. I started off strong and then went downhill fast.
Tuesday, October 4th I left Sandee’s house at 4:30am for the Chicago O’Hare airport. I tried catching up along the way by working on possible photos for the Geogypsy 2023 calendar. Not easy with the limited space in flight. Besides, more fun to look out the window. Flew over Grand Canyon on the way to Los Angeles, then a four hour layover and on to Phoenix, followed by a three hour shuttle ride to Prescott. Literally ran through the grocery store before driving the last 30 minutes home to arrive just after 7pm.
Sierra was happy to see me and get her late treats. So nice to sleep in my own bed.

Nice to wake up to my much loved familiar view though it would take a while catching up to reset my biological clock, even with naps. It was only slightly warmer than Illinois and Michigan but much dryer. The tall weeds ranged from green to gold and all covered with something that sticks to clothes.
I got right to work catching up on the blog with the first of two posts asking for help to choose the final photos for the calendar.
Finished and scheduled the second blog post the next day.

Also made a video catching up on a meetup for November’s lunar eclipse. I’ll most likely be in the desert somewhere.
Spent Friday catching up with friends and family, downloaded photos and video from the trail-cam, and enjoyed a little rain that left rainbows.
I eventually made a video from the wild and not so wild life that was caught on the trail-cam. That shows much better than these stills.
Saturday, the previous weeks started catching up with me. I was exhausted. Took several naps. Tried to eat my “normal” food choices, be they good or bad. Nothing worked. I had traveler’s revenge really bad, and nothing at home to solve the problem. Plus no energy to go into town. So I took more naps and went on half a BRAT diet for diarrhea. Banana, Rice, Applesauce and Toast but only had the last two in the house. Spent the next five days feeling like shit.
Tried unsuccessfully to shoot the full Harvest moon as I was too tired to drag out the tripod. Plus there were clouds.
Actually better moon shots in the morning as it set behind Brushy Mountain.

Home for a week and finally had barely enough energy to go to town. Started a regime of strong probiotics to reset my poor gut.
So I’m still catching up and working on the calendar in between naps. I’ll work on catching up more next week.
Calendars are available for order at $25 each including shipping in the US. Please let me know how many you want.
I’m so sorry for your post trip sick Gaelyn. Glad it waited until home. Amazing you did anything else. The web cam animal trove! So cool. I loved the big big moonrise.
The sick mostly waited. Fun with the cam. Think I’ll stick with moon sets.
I’d also rather be sick at home than sick on the road. Glad that is behind you and all is well. Sierra must be thrilled to have you home again. Some fun captures on the ‘animal cam’.
Thanks. I feel mostly back to normal.
Bummer to end such a great time on such a note! Glad you are on the mend.
Thanks. Sometimes travel will do that to me. I blame it on the changes in water and diet.
Oh dear me Gaelyn, you did have a rough journey,it’s no fun being sick when not at home, but hope you are o.k. now. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to post these lovely photo’s even though you were not feeling up to it.Sierra seemed delighted to see you again, no wonder she wanted to share the bed. Have a good weekend.
Thanks. Feeling almost 100% now. Sierra always shares the bed. Be well.
So sorry to hear about your Illness. I wonder what bug you had and where in the world you got it. On the airplane?
Love your trail Cam pictures. Makes me wanna have one but so much trouble to set up and doesn’t it require internet? I liked your moon shots even if you didn’t.
Thanks. When traveling it’s hard to say where a “bug” comes from. This trail cam is very easy to set up, don’t NEED internet unless I want to check it without taking it down. I usually have a signal wherever I am anyway. Hope for better moon luck next month.
Glad you are finally feeling a bit better. It takes so long to recover from that crap. Be sure to drink enough with your ‘brat’ diet. Nice pictures.
Thanks. Hydration I can usually do and am back to my own water. And to my own food choices.
Hope by now you are feeling much better. I have had a few interesting shots on our Trail cam also. Nice to know what is about.
Lovely set of photos and as always your moon shots are superb. Take care, hugs D & N
Thanks. It is fun to see what wanders through after dark especially.
Gosh – you had a bad bout of it. Glad you’re feeling stronger now. Being sick is the pits, but at least you were back home. I like seeing the animals passing through on your trail cam.
Finally past that. The trail-cam is fun.
Looks like I missed this one in the shuffle somewhere. eeek. lots of fun night photos of critters, though. And eek and ick to the traveler’s revenge. Hope you are doing better enough to enjoy your train ride, that I am pretty sure already happened.
Thanks. Feeling better. Train ride was awesome.
