This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including South Africa, Kaibab National Forest, and a little of my art.
Jo chose #1926 in memory of the birth year of the late Queen Elizabeth. Many in her home country of South Africa have ties to the United Kingdom, and the world mourns. This shot, taken while hiking in South Africa, of the Eye of the Needle in the Drakensberg Mountains, where Jo’s son guided me.
Rita chose #1302. Video taken during my first visit in 2010, South African elephants in Kruger National Park.
Gypsy chose #817, “the date gravitational waves were detected of two neutron stars colliding.” Thank goodness there was no colliding on this drive through the Kaibab National Forest on the North Rim Grand Canyon’s opening day 2009.
Jodee and Bill chose #4434. Sorry for the lousy quality, but it’s a handheld shot of the musical light show on the Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #909. They saw this view of the Grand Staircase along SR89A north on their way to Bryce Canyon from the Grand Canyon.
Cathy chose #0610. A pile of kelp on the beach at Coquille Point National Wildlife Refuge Bandon, Oregon during my 2014 visit with Berta.
Alan and random dot org chose #4376. I toured this penguin habitat at a marine rehabilitation facility while visiting Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 2013.
Sherry chose #1020. Saw this pride on the first day of my first visit to Kruger National Park, South Africa in 2010.
Sallie and Bill got #49 for the number of words in their comment. An ink drawing from my days of community college in Shoreline, Washington, 1988.
Liberal Warrior chose #2035, “the year California and Washington State ban the sales of new ICE* vehicles.” *Internal combusion engines. Countries like South Africa without refineries should be happy about loosing ICE vehicles, though it may take longer than 13 years for them. So this is a South African view from hiking the Drakensberg Mts., same trip as above but the return hike.
Jennifer chose #6573. Taken in 2014, eight years after the Warm Fire on the Kaibab National Forest adjacent to the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Here’s the attendees at my 40th class reunion and something a classmate wrote. I’m currently in Illinois for the 50th.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Thanks for the memories. Love the drawing.. In the UK all the moment 1609 for next week please. Hugs Diane and Nigel
Thanks. Be safe over there. #1609 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, WOW pleased with my choice, “The herd of Elephants”, thank you for the video. Like the pride of Lions lying peacefully in the road. My fav this week is your drawings. No 7062 for next week please. Have a great weekend.
Thanks. I used to draw a lot, but other hobbies got in the way. #7062 for next week.
The video of the elephants is amazing!!! I hope you are having a good time at your reunion.
5674 for next week.
Thanks. Elephants are amazing! Having fun and its’ not over yet. #5674 for next week.
Can’t find you in the reunion picture from 10 years ago but love that it was written up in what I assume is the local paper….especially “stampeded into town” LOVE the elephant video – SO many. The little one is totally cute. Do both males and females have tusks?
That’s some light show. Reminds me of Disney World. OH BOY LIONS! On your first day of your first visit. How fantastic! I had no idea you were such a good artist. That’s a great sketch. If I could draw like that I’d be drawing every time I went on a hike. Such a sad picture 8 years out from the fire. 924 for next week please. The date my daughter and grandchildren come to visit the farm now that I’m here again.
Second row, third from left. The write up was a fake. Yes both male and female elephants can have tusks. Never was good at quick sketch, drawings took me lots of time. Some landscapes take longer to recover than others after fire. #924 for next week.
I echo, where you are in 40th. Enjoy IL! Wow, that’s a great first time first day lion jam. I looked up Bandon, not far from Grants Pass hometown. It’s so dense, not a straight shot by car over to coast. I LOVED the elephants crossing. One sure was eyeing the tour. #7108 harkening back to Arizona ghost town tripping and Cow Palace:)
Second row, third from left. It’s sticky in IL and comparable temps. Love Bandon. #7108 for next week.
I too like your seagull, looks a bit like the Seattle Seahawks logo. Both my kid brother and one of his daughters spent time a Shoreline College.
For next week I’d like 6307 the number of miles traveled on this years road trip. ‘There’s no place like home’, but in the RV ‘home is where we park it’!
Thanks. I liked Shoreline. #6307 for next week.
I like your ink drawing. I thought that was YOU! (2nd row up from bottom and 3rd over from left). Never tire of that Staircase view from 89A. I hope you have totally enjoyed your trip and wish you safe travels for the return. Next time #0924 for the release of the California Condors on National Public Lands Day at Vermillion Cliffs!
Thanks. The reunion weekend was awesome and exhausting. Always loved going to the Condor release.
Hi Gaelyn, I love that my number brought up Ntunja (the eye of the needle) which you captured on your hike with John. I love your 40th reunion and hope you’re enjoying the 50th. My number for next week in 906 – my sixth year anniversary in the Valley this month. Have a great week. Jo
Thanks. The reunion weekend was lots of fun and equally exhausting. #906 for this week.
