This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by eight readers including a reoccurring theme of snow which seems wonderful while much of the US overheats, unusual dimensional art and three choices from the 22nd of months. Coincidences?
Gypsy chose #5207, “for an early Chicago trip…” Having grown up in the Chicago suburbs, we knew snow. Not usually in May, like her number indicates and this shot is from. May 7, 2016 heading north out of the North Rim Grand Canyon before that side was open for the season. At 8,000 feet, snow is common into June.
Diane and Nigel chose #2207. Metal sculptures of Mastadons by Ricardo Breceda seen at Galleta Meadows Borrego Springs, California. Check out this link for more creations.
Cathy chose #0804, “for when my little Sis visits!!” August should be safe for a no snow visit to Grand Canyon. This was my RV window view at the North Rim on April 26, 2014, again before the North Rim opens to the public May 15th.
Rita chose #7309. I really wasn’t spying on people. This is an installation seen at Noah Purifoy’s Desert Art Museum in Joshua Tree, California.
Alan chose #5510. I am more likely to see sunrise when traveling and camping. This morning was along the Indian Ocean at Scottburgh Caravan Park, South Africa.
Sherry chose #5678. She may be wishing for snow too. This shot from a November 2015 drive on the Kaibab National Forest before the North Rim closed the end of the month.
Jo chose #5654. Check out the size of that fossilized Ammonite seen along the Wild Coast of the Indian Ocean at Mzamba fossil site near Port Edward, South Africa.
Jeff chose #8199, “the price of diesel in Bridgeport CA as we passed through” and didn’t need fuel. Only food fuel needed for the White Domes Trail in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.
My choices from July 2006 when Ranger Gaelyn took an Oregon Caves slide show to Valley of the Rogue State Park.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Hi Gaelyn, thanks for sharing these memories. I love the last one of Ranger Gaelyn doing a slide show in the field. AWESOME! May I have 7500 for next week please. Jo
Thanks. #7500 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, some really unusual photos here this week. That Ammonite fossil was a good find. Fav, is your window view of the North Rim Grand Canyon. No 99 for next week please.
Thanks. A real mix this week. Had a guide on the beach or would have missed the Ammonite. #99 for next week.
Snow!
I was quite pleased to see Mount Hood and Rainier holding on to their winter dresses well past the Summer solstice, but our local beautiful mount, Mount McLaughlin, a stratovolcano, is rapidly losing its winter dress in the triple digit heat surrounding her. Our climbing plans go fourth despite the heat and sun, though loss of the snow fields will help put ease on the eyes.
We are having record breaking heat here in the Rogue Valley with temps well past the recent Valley of the Sun temps. A few days ago we hit 111 here at the farm.
Have fun climbing and don’t forget your sunscreen. Hotter there than here, this week in the high 70s is quite the reprieve. I’m giving you #111 for that high temp.
Forecast calls for 109* today and 112* tomorrow. Always seems to go a few degrees higher than the forecast especially lately with a rapidly warming planet that has earth and weather scientists in a panic as we should be. Luckily I love dry heat, but there is a livable limit that we can endure.
A friend of mine’s son is an environmental Scientist/professor for the University of Hawaii and is currently aboard their research vessel near the Aleutians studying ocean salinity and he has stated that what they have been seeing the past few years is deeply troubling, especially this past year, and he is not one for hyperbole.
Yup, our species has been in denial way too long.
I’m intrigued by the Valley of Fire, and love the art work.
7671 from random dot org for next week.
If you’re ever in Vegas, Valley of Fire is about an hour away. Worth the visit, not in summer. #7671 for next week.
I love the Indian Ocean waves captured at sunrise. Was the Ammonite in open and unprotected as it looks? With your photos I’ve added White Domes trail. And look at your looong hair! #1214 next time please. Another Chicago trip, special trip back with son after surprise home for holidays.
Thanks. Without a guide I wouldn’t have seen the Ammonite, had to dig a bit on the beach. #1214 for next week.
Wow, ours has to be a favourite here, or the link to your other post certainly is. I have no idea how I managed to miss that in 2015!!! Also love the fossilized Ammonite, and of course you know how we both love slot canyons 😊.
2907 for next week please. Keep safe ad have a great weekend. Hugs, Diane and Nigel
My absolute fave is the very first picture. North Rim snow lightly falling, beautiful evergreens & an empty road. I can feel the cool, crisp air through the vision of your photograph. 🥰❄️ AND I like the Ranger Gaelyn pics! Next week #3608
Thanks. At the time the snow wasn’t as appreciated as it is right now. LOL! Was always so fun to be in the park when it wasn’t opened yet. #3608 for next week.
Thanks. That tour along the coast where the Ammonite is was awesome. #2907 for next week.
That was a fun selection! I like the fossil. #2444
(ツ) from Jenn Jilks , ON, Canada!
Thanks. #2444 for next week.
Love that first picture of snow. The actual flakes are so hard to photograph for me.
Of course I also loved the Valley of Fire picture. ANOTHER spot in the west on my bucket list.
That fossil is really amazing. Your hand puts its size in great perspective. Thanks for the laugh this week – the elephant butt is a great picture. I’ll have 4773 for next week.
Thanks. I find snow and rain difficult to photograph, usually requires quite a bit of post-processing. I’m sure your western list is as long as my eastern list. #4773 for this week.
Snow pictures are so cooling (it’s even hot here in western Oregon). Seems like almost every week you still have new pictures to share from your South Africa trips — that fossil is quite something! I might almost be caught up at least for a while. If I can join the party next week, may I have 819?
I hear Oregon is hotter than here in AZ. Right now it’s humidity at over 80% that’s a killer. The golden grasses are turning green from all the rain. Feels like I’m in OR. LOL! #819 for this this week.
