This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including rock, glass, and dramatic skies from the American West and South Africa.
Diane and Nigel chose #1507. Sunset from Cape Royal overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Alan chose #1055, a vertical panorama. This is the turnaround end looking back into Upper Antelope Slot Canyon located near Page, Arizona. Can only visit on a reserved tour with a Navajo guide. Note the graffiti, tours help reduce that kind of vandalism. Highly recommend this experience.
Sue chose #2005, “for the first time we camped at Union Creek on the Rogue in the first baby MoHo.” This creek crossing from the first time I visited South Africa and the only time I backpacked into the Drakensburg Mountains with Jo’s son John as my guide.
Rita chose #6655. Note the out of place stacked rocks on this Indian Ocean rocky shoreline seen along the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Jodee and Bill also chose #6655. How opposite does it get seeing cactus along the Hidden Valley trail in Joshua Tree National Park.
Gypsy chose #1982. The stained glass spider plant was made in 1982 for those of us who have black thumbs, like me. I owned a craft consignment store then and a friend recently visited that town of Tonasket, Washington and took the second pic of the current storefront. So I went digging for a shot of the original store front from 1983. The store was 7×14 feet and filled with finished local crafts plus a workbench for my stained glass craft.
Jennifer chose #2000. Yet another Grand Canyon sunset taken from the North Rim.
Jo chose #9576. A butterfly found Berta’s flower garden in Yarnell. This week marks four years since her passing after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Reading these old posts brought tears, smiles, and laughter.
Jeff chose #725, “the date of our family reunion at Mt Shasta this year.” I hope he’s already there having a great time and doesn’t have any storm clouds hanging overhead like these seen along SR89 north through the Painted Desert.
Sherry chose #6830. Snow on the distant San Jacinto Peak and San Gorgonio from Keys View in Joshua Tree National Park, California in March of 2015.
Cathy chose #5072. I’m sure she’s watched Derek hoop dance at Heritage Days on the North Rim Grand Canyon. Hope he’ll be there again this year as they are bring back this celebration in August.
Sallie and Bill get #50 for the number of words in their last comment. They’ve been busy since returning to Oregon from Florida. I was busy during the 1980s making stained glass projects like this commissioned candle holder. Same time and place as my shop mentioned above.
In July 2005 while working at Mesa Verde National Park I explored the nearby San Juan Mountains in Colorado.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
I love my photo with your “Gail’s” storefront, my given name. What a dream to have own shop. I’m wondering how many stained glass are still in your possession:) Maybe that was before your wheel homes. 1982 a very good year. #5207 please. For an early Chicago trip before knowing it well with a sister friend & son moved there.
Thanks. My given name too. Owning a small store that made no money was fun at first, but over time got old always being chief cook and bottlewasher so to speak. I have very few glass pieces left, a clock that hangs on the wall. Glass is not a mobile craft. #5207 for next week.
Always very hard to beat a sunset but the slot canyon just did 😊 So glad we got to see one while we were there. 2207 for next week please. Have a great weekend and keep cool. Hugs D & N
Thanks. I’m glad you got to see a slot canyon. #2207 for next week.
Pretty cool to see your prior storefront and the current comparison. The slot canyon is my pic this week-have been in others but not Antelope. Cool spaces to meander through. Have a good week! Next #0804 for when my little Sis visits!!
Thanks. Getting a current shop shot was a recent surprise bonus. All the slots are cool and you have many nearby so I wouldn’t bother with the expense and crowds of Antelope. #0804 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, as you say, some dramatic sky photo’s here and I like you Crafts and collectables window display. I hadn’t used to like cactus plant but some can produce some colourful flowers. Fav this week The Hoop dancer North Rim Grand Canyon. No 7309 for next week please. Have a great weekend.
Thanks. I think desert and cactus have to grow on you. Not literally of course. 😉 Watching Derek hoop dance is amazing. #7309 for next week.
So many favorites here, the Antelope Slot Canyon and I am shocked why anyone would deface such a place. I”ve loved the San Juan Mountains. And Joshua Tree NP is on the bucket list.
Thanks. I don’t understand vandalism of any kind. #5510 for next week.
Me again, 5510 for next week.
Love the photo of Antelope Canyon of course. Hate the graffiti. Maybe every place is going to have to have reservations, tickets and guides to stop the destruction of the few. I hate to think so. What is wrong with people? 5678 for next week please
Thanks. I just don’t understand the mentality of vandalism. It is getting to the point where everywhere nice and pretty needs reservations. Guides could be next but Antelope is on the Navajo reservation so that’s their choice. It would be worse without a guide. #5678 for this week.
Dear Gaelyn so sweet that my number linked back to Bertha’s garden and memories of her. We miss our friends, Please could I have 5654 for next week., Have a great week ahead. Jo xx
Yes, we miss our friends and loved ones. #5654 for this week.
My photo was along AZ SR89 tomorrow we’ll take CA SR89 into Shasta, but my favorite is the memory of Antelope Canyon.
For next week I’d like 8199 the price of diesel ($8.19.9) in Bridgeport CA as we passed through. glad we didn’t gas!
Hmm, coincidences. Have a great time. Glad you didn’t have to gas. #8199 for this week.
I’/m having a hard time keeping up these days; everything takes me twice as long and blogging suffers. I enjoy your glass work and the scenery from all over.
Thanks. I know that feeling. Did the days get shorter? 😉
