This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including South Africa, water and rock waves, three US National Parks, and a wilderness.
Rita got #54 for the number of words in her last comment. Oops. Cutaway wall on a pithouse, 2600 year-old Basketmaker III residence, and masonry against the cliff wall from the 1200s Ancestral Puebloan people in Step House at Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado. When I worked there summer of 2005, this site was open to the public as a self-guide, however only when a Ranger was onsite.
Jennifer chose #0265. At Pilanesberg Game Reserve in South Africa, wildlife is quite watchable from the deck of a shop and restaurant. Putting out a salt block by a waterhole helps also.
Doris chose #7865. Snow in Zion National Park, here along the Virgin River, during the quiet time of winter was a special treat 1-10-16.
Cathy chose #9900. This baby water monitor, about 8 inches, seen in Pilanesberg Game Reserve, same trip as above giraffes.
Diane and Nigel chose #2406. During the golden hour as the last light brightens canyon walls. Seen my first visit to Toroweap along the North Rim of Grand Canyon 9-27-10.
Alan chose #3265. Hanging out along the shore of the Indian Ocean in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa 3-23-10. I sure could use an ocean fix.
Jo chose #4561, “the middle numbers on my calculator as I work at my desk.” This might look like I’m in the middle of the road, somewhere along R44 between Hermanus and Cape Town, South Africa. She might recognize this place.
Jeff chose #2041, “the year the planets will next align.” Here I am in the year 2010, when I aligned with Jo’s son John for an overnight backpack into the Drakensberg Mountains. Yes, we got wet.
Sherry chose #9274. A not such an iconic shot of the Wave, but still gorgeous.
Gypsy has been busy moving but I’m giving her #17 for the number of words in her comment. Back in 1989 I volunteered as an animal keeper at the California Living Museum (CALM) in Bakersfield. One of the duties was washing out food bowls, as I’m doing in the keepers work area.
Liberal Warrior chose #1947. A July 2017 storm seen from a favorite camp at Marble View on the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
My choices this week from 1988, a friend taught school in La Push, WA, on the Quileute reservation and she lived in a trailer almost on the beach within sight of the ball field and Coast Guard station, convenient to watch for storm flag warnings.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
You have the best photos! Wonderful!
(ツ) from Jenn Jilks , ON, Canada!
Aw, gee, thanks.
Such a lovely variety of photo’s Gaelyn,so difficult to choose a fav but here goes. I think The Last Light along the North Rim of Grand Canyon is my fav. Take care on your journey’s and have a great weekend.
Thanks Rita. I know you like to see the canyon. Thought the pithouse would intrigue you.
Every week I view your images from adventures and today I was thinking of the song about you “I’ve been everywhere man, I’ve everywhere…”
Keep on trucking!!
Thanks, I can only dream of going everywhere, because it’s on my list. #7120 for next week.
Me again, 7120 for next week
Aw nice surprise, thanks for picking one for me:) I also love while on the Drakensberg Mts. trail. In the clouds, And your picks at La Push. Looks such a characteristic beach cottage. #1010 for month/year of hailstorm of the century in Phoenix Valley. Gaelyn wasn’t cleaning up after one of those in her animal keeper photo pic, but my Jeep still shows the pockmarks. (How’s that for connector:)
Good connection. Never saw hail in Bakersfield, but have seen plenty of SW rigs with those telltale pockmarks. #1010 for next week.
Toroweap wins for me this week. Gorgeous! Next week # 0826
No surprise there. No crowds in 2010. #0826 for next week.
Sorry busy day yesterday entertaining! Think that maybe our photo, and the wave are favourites for both of us but Tsitsikamma has very special memories. The first time I visited there I was camping with my mother, and yes we rolled up a very wet tent to move on the the next place 😊 Visited several time later for the two of us.
207 for next week please. Hugs Diane and Nigel
I LOVE when my memories evoke your memories. Tsitsikamma is special. I especially enjoyed camping and hiking there with Joan. Enjoy your company. (Hope you got the painting done.;) #207 for next week.
I agree with Cathy – your foto of Toroweap in the sunset is amazing.
For next week I’d like 1776, the official beginning of our nation.
Thanks. It’s all about getting lucky with light isn’t it. #1776 for next week. Happy 4th!
Giraffes!! Love the glowing cliffs of Toroweap – perfect timing! There few beaches more beautiful than La Push. We’re looking forward to being back there next summer.
#2031 next week please
Thanks. I too hope to get to the PNW next summer. I’ve put that trip off way too long. #2031 for next week.
Mesa Verde is a wonder. I cannot even imagine what it must have been like to be alive and living there.
Fantastic giraffe picture. What a treat to see them live and not in a zoo. Outstanding picture of your overnight backpack. Looks fantastic. As does Toroweap glowing. I doubt a picture could be taken of the wave that wasn’t gorgeous. A bucket list item that I fear I am too late to do without being part of a mass of people in a spiritual setting. I’ll try # 8293 for next week
When leading tours at Mesa Verde I tried to take visitors back in time. I could hear ghosts in Cliff Palace. When you get west, there are many equally beautiful places in the SW that aren’t the Wave. #8293 for next week.
Your reply to Sherry made me want to play too. I loved Cliff Palace while there in September 1979, honeymooning. So, Cliff House, Giraffes and the golden glow were my favorites. I’d like #50 for next week.
Cool! I love when my memories evoke others. #50 for this week.
