This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 13 readers including North and South Grand Canyon, wildlife, and me.
Jo chose #9564. Spring 2015 Yarnell held a Car Show. Fitting their are classic gas stations in town.
Alan chose #7212. He hikes frequently so I wonder if he ever came across a warning sign for an aggressive Blue Grouse on a trail. This bird chase hikers on the Widforss Trail on the North Rim Grand Canyon during early June in 2016.
Gypsy chose #0910, “for meteor shower viewing near Mayer.” The North Rim of Grand Canyon was a grand place to watch the night sky. Visitors could stay in these cabins. Though this four-shot panorama was taken about two weeks before the North Rim opened in 2014. Yes, that’s snow.
Diane and Nigel chose #1305. My shadow shot against a granite boulder while hiking in the Weaver Mountains in Yarnell, Arizona.
Sue chose #1971, “for the very first time I drove our 1960 beat up Ford Fairlane down Oak Creek Canyon and saw Sedona for the first time.” In the summer of 1971 I flew in an airplane for the first time from Los Angeles to Sacrament and this is how I dressed. At 16-years old I dressed to get served a cocktail on the plane. Of course that didn’t happen.
Cathy chose #3022. Smokey Bear rode in the 2014 4th of July water parade at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Jodee and Bill chose #7727. I could watch elephants all day and a waterhole is a great place for that. Herd after herd take turns drinking and playing. Seen at Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.
Rita gets #45 for the number of words in her last comment. During the 1980s I practiced the craft of stained glass. This piece was made for a friend’s front door who raised Angel fish in Illinois.
Sherry chose #8379. Fall aspen on the North Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Jeff chose #517, when his wife left for Ohio. More fall leaves, this time at the edges of Harvey Meadow on the North Rim Grand Canyon.
Doris chose #4186. A regular stop along SR67 when driving between Jacob Lake and the North Rim. A fire in 2006 opened the forest for this view of the Vermilion Cliffs, Marble Canyon, Echo Cliffs and Navajo Mountain on the horizon about 100 miles away.
Sallie and Bill chose #8500. A South Rim view of Grand Canyon from Moran Point includes a piece of the Colorado River. Took this shot on my birthday 2015.
liberalwarrior chose #1357, one of two in a panorama. From the North Rim’s Point Imperial overlook rain could be seen.
During May of 1989 I was an animal keeper at the California Living Museum, CALM, in Bakersfield, California. I donated the drawing of Bald Eagles in mating flight to the newly built Raptor Round. The cougar named Sierra was bigger than my kitty but just as friendly. And so was the baby bobcat born at the facility.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Great set of pictures this week. Love the “go-go” boots. I had a white pair. Don’t see me in the background of my pic but I was hanging out somewhere. Fun!! Have a great weekend! Next week #0805 for North Rim Heritage Days this year that I plan to catch
Thanks. I had white boots too. Figured you might have been at the parade. Hope they’re still doing Heritage Days. #0805 for next week.
Cute cougar, love the fall colors, the canyon, and, my, look a those legs of yours!!
Thanks. I used to have great gams. #2348 for next week.
2348 for next week
Looks like the Terror of the trail stands by the sign ready to harass.
Beautiful 55′ Chevy Tudor hardtop, but what is the are sticking out of the garage. Shoe Box Ford(?) heavily customized.
You didn’t get your drink, but surely got plenty of appreciative looks.
The big Kitties. I have only seen three Cougars in the wild, but the town of Ruidoso, NM, has them roaming the streets and relaxing in the shade on your patio or under the trees in your yard. Really can’t say those kitties are in the wild. One night a Bobcat jumped on my truck’s hood then onto the top of the camper while camped along the North Fork of the John Day River near Kimberly. That is the only time I have seen a Bobcat.
#4186 gives one a glimpse of the vastness of the desert SW, but near Datil, NM, there is a point where there is a curve of the earth 100-mile view over the malpaiso of the North Plains of New Mexico.
Quite a post. Every thing from shapely to terrorizing Grouse.
#1361 FNW
Thanks. That Grouse came back the next summer too. Probably a nest nearby that we couldn’t find. I know nothing about old cars except they look cool. I’ve only seen a Cougar in the wild once and it was a blur. Never seen Bobcat in the wild. I understand they hang out in backyards in Tucson. That curved 100 mile view is visual from Yavimpa Pt at Bryce. #1361 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn, some really interesting photos this week, love the cougar you are cuddling, that must have been a lovely experience, and I love Elephants and always wanted a ride on one. I have glass in my front door but not as pretty as the one you made for your friend. My fav of course this week is, the South Rim view of Grand Canyon from Moran Point. Hope all is well with you. Have a good weekend.
Thanks. Always mixed emotions working with wildlife.
I had “hot pants” shorts in the 70s! Ha, fun memory. I love you hugging BIG Sierra, her close-up, and one of a kind glass art in the door! Always Elephants. I take shadow photos too, thought maybe for an album. I’ll take #1911; BIG Sierra reminded me of “Baby”, a huge though very sick great Mastiff I found downtown Phoenix, looking as a horse from distance while on an overpass. Thanks Gaelyn:)
Thanks. I am sad thinking of a Mastiff being lost. They do look as big as horses. #1911 for this week.
A wonderful set of photos and we just love the elephants but the favourite has to be you in your boots. Wow did I love my boots in that period, time that boots came back into fashion again. The South rim view of the Grand Canyon is amazing and we always love shadows. 2005 for next week please. Have a great weekend. Hugs from us both, Nigel and Diane
Thanks. I might fall off boots if they were fashionable again. LOL. #2005 for this week.
Love my elephants – would really love to see them at the water hole! Amazing south rim pic. That canyon has so many faces to love.
2826 next week please
Who doesn’t love elephants. I could watch them for the rest of my life. Let’s go to South Africa! The RV and camp. #2826 for this week.
We’ve named the RV Rufus for the Bobcat (Lynx Rufus), as always great fotos. But as much as a bobcat means, Moran Point is the favorite this week.
For next week I’d like 5:28 the local time when the unmanned Strarlink docked with the International Space Station.
Thanks. Good name. #528 for this week.
I love our canyon shot, looking down at the river. The elephant watering hole was an amazing experience; your pictures are the closest I’ll ever get to seeing them in the wild, so thank you for that!! Love your animal keeper memories too — that baby bobcat picture is incredible! Thanks for sharing your fantastic memories. What about 672 for next time.
Thanks. I do enjoy sharing the memories. #672 for this week.
Hi Gaelyn, I hope I’m not too late for tomorrow’s Foto Fun. I love your hot pants. I had a purple pair and wore it with a knitted poloneck pullover to go dancing. Crazy times. Of course, my favorite photos are of the bobcat and couger. You have had an interesting life, for sure. My number for this week is 4128 (all numbers I’m working with to get my admin finished to get myself paid!) Have a great day. Jo
Oops, I already had the post scheduled and just saw this. How about next week?
