This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers including South Africa, sand and stone, sunset colors, and ocean waves.
Jo chose #4110. Advertising petroglyphs instead of a billboard sign were once common in southern Utah.
Diane and Nigel chose #2204. A view they got to enjoy of a different sunset over Grand Canyon from the North Rim.
Cathy chose #0506. Another sunset, this time over the Pacific Ocean from Bandon, Oregon.
Sherry chose #941. A previous truckcamper taken in 2009 at Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Utah.
Rita chose #4419. Hippos spend most of their days in water partially because they easily sunburn. Seen in 2014 at Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Gypsy chose #6602, “Route 66 in ‘02.” Last week she shared with me a Bird of Paradise plant seen in her neighborhood that is considered toxic. So it seems appropriate her number brought up a toxic plant as well, Amaryllis Belladonna is native to South Africa where I took this photo in Tsitsikamma National Park.
Doris chose #4579. After leaving Hermanus, South Africa where I spent my 2010 birthday, I found many opportunities to stop along the shores of False Bay on my way to Cape Town.
Jennifer chose #2134. A case of ancient sand dunes lithified to stone and eroding back to sand, yet it almost looks like swirled desert or ice cream. White Pocket in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument northern Arizona.
Alan chose #5040. Look closely to see the Water Thick-knee bird hiding in the reeds at Lake Panic in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Digging back to April 27, 2006, a previous 5th-wheel home parked at a friends in Cave Junction, Oregon when I was a Park Ranger at Oregon Caves National Monument.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Well, I must say the petroglyph billboard sign was a bit of a wake up call. What will people think 1000 years from now when they try to interpret it. Will the English language still exist? Will letters be the same? Will our civilization have completely disappeared and been replaced by another one with no memory of ours? Or will everything still be the same only worse and it will still just be sad grafitti. Ah well. The Bandon sunset made me laugh. Lots of times sunsets on our part of the Pacific are duds. With the sun just going down and that distant fog bank coming in. And the Cave Junction photo? All I could see in my minds eye was all the poison oak around your site. We are home from our little four day mini trip and it is time to catch up.
I’ve seen several native petroglyph sites near Kanab that have been vandalized by the white settlers. Future inhabitants might not even care. Heck the youngest generations today can’t read our cursive. I never even noticed the poison oak, but have never been bothered by it or the ivy either. Thank goodness. Welcome home. Feels good, doesn’t it.
The advertising is still so clear! Love the False Bay, it looks really raw.
#301 for next week please. I’ll try harder to pay attention to Fridays :-))
In a rather shelter place most petroglyphs remain clear, plus nobody new to deface them. Not to worry, I get being WAY behind when traveling. #301 for next week.
My favourite is mine! 🙂
I know you knew I’d like that one! It is so beautiful! #9191
Thanks, I figured you’d like that one. #9191 for next week.
Where do I find the photos for the Friday post
I don’t understand the question.
If I want to look at the numbered photos people choose to be posted on your Friday blog where do I find them.
Every week I post Foto Friday Fun and the photos associated with numbers left on comments the previous week. If you subscribe to the blog, option on the side bar using your email address, you’ll be notified whenever I post. Hope that helps. Thank you for your interest.
I like the way your pictures capture a story. I’ve spent many evenings watching those Pacific sunsets, sometimes being rewarded with the Green Flash.
For next week I’d like 1862, the Battle of Puebla (Batalla de Puebla) took place on 5 May 1862. It’s been celebrated in California as Cinco de May since 1863.
Thank you. I’ve never seen the green flash. #1862 for next week, and maybe a margarita.
I love what you did with my pick. Gaelyn. I looked up, had to see the bloom; also called Naked-Lady lily as its flowers are carried on 1-2 stems sans leaves. Ha wonder why it evolved that. Maybe for protection, conserve energy…Also seeing places near my hometown Grants Pass. And those False Bay cliffs. What smashing birthdays you’ve had! And friends worldwide. How about #0205 for one Death Valley trip. Thanks!
Tee hee. I do believe in celebrating birthdays. #0205 for next week.
I am having huge problems with FB but managed to connect on my phone. Love our photo but think the False Bay photo has to be our favourite. 3004 for next week please. Hugs from us both. D & N
Thanks. Hope you can figure it out. #3004 for next week.
The billboard on the sandstone brought back memories from when I was a kid in Utah. Used to see those occasionally. I also love the False Bay shot.
I have seen a few other advertising petroglyphs, all in Utah.
1252 for next week!
Got it.
Hi Gaelyn, my favorite is of your old dog. Carlson? I may be wrong. Thanks for sharing. My number for next week is 8353. Enjoy your weekend. Jo
Carson will be long remembered. #8353 for next week.
False Bay would be my fave this week. Next week #2111
Thanks. Are we dreaming of water? I know I am. #2111 for this week.
Thanks for the lovely photo’s Gaelyn. Nice scene of the false bay and those petroglyphs are interesting..Favourite for this week is the ancient sand dunes in the vermilion cliffs National monument Northern Arizona. Hope all is well with you, enjoy your weekend and take care.
Thank you. Rather different kind of petroglyphs.
Don’t think I like advertising petroglyphs. Sue’s comment was really contemplative.
Love the hippos. Beautiful pictures of False Bay (doesn’t look false to me) and White Pocket which definitely looks yummy and is on my bucket list.
Seeing “a previous 5th wheel” made me wonder how many rigs you’ve had? You have two now right?
I’ll try 5120 for next week please.
I’ve lived in just about everything with wheels except a popup trailer. Hmmm, 1. Vega 2. Chevy van 3. Ford van 4. VW wagon 5. Park Model 6. truckcamper to Mexico 7. truckcamper 8. TT 9. School bus 9. Morphadite truckcamper 10. Motorhome 11. 5th-wheel 12. truckcamper 13. 5th-wheel 14. truckcamper 15. Oh, and a sailboat that was towable Thanks for asking.
#5120 for this week.
Oh fun memories of your older traveling homes (I see that old Oregon license on your old RV). And not-as-old SW USA and SAfrica scenery — so beautiful. Glad to be back in blogland and, if OK, I will take 526 (a granddaughter’s birthda).
Thanks. Welcome back. Learning a new computer is such a hassle. #526 for this week.
