This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by ten readers including Grand Canyon under dramatic stormy skies, the Colorado River that carved that grand canyon, and other far views.
Jo chose #4825. Crazy Jug Point on the Kaibab National Forest, a favorite place to watch monsoon storms roll across the Grand Canyon. I usually camp in this remote location so I can photograph the storm and jump into the camper to stay dry and safe.
TreDeuce gets #131, for the number of words in his last comment. A panorama of the Colorado River shoreline just downstream of the Lee’s Ferry boat launch in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, Arizona. A first visit for me in June 2008 as I explored the area surrounding the North Rim Grand Canyon, my first season at that national park.
Cathy chose #8174, “the birth DAYS of my siblings.” If she meant August 1st, this shot comes close taken August 9, 2015 from the North Rim Grand Canyon. A view I’m sure she knows.
Rita chose #9922. Marble View, yet another favorite Kaibab National Forest camp with a view east over the Marble Plateau and canyon, Echo Cliffs, and Navajo Mountain faintly on the horizon close to 100 miles away.
Jeff chose #42 in honor to Jackie Robinson Day. At barely a year old, I was already off to discover the answer to everything. Which I now know is “42”. (Alluding to Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”)
Gypsy chose #2020, a popular number and had to wade through the year 2020. Taken during Autumn, 11 years after the 2006 Warm Fire on the North Kaibab National Forest. Presumably an area for ranchers to round up their cattle grazing on the public land.
Alan chose #3190. The Forest Tree-ferns can grow 15-20 feet tall along the Big Tree Trail where the Yellowwood trees tower 100 feet above.
Jodee and Bill chose #2557. New Year’s Eve 2014 this was my morning view of the Vallecito Mountains from camp in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California. This area is no longer open to campers.
Diane and Nigel chose #1504. While exploring southern Utah during late October, 2011 this northern view from the Glendale Bench Road caught my eye. I didn’t realize at the time the distant Pink Cliffs is Yovimpa Point, the southern most overlook in Bryce Canyon National Park.
Sherry chose #4245, “for the word HAIL which we had in Virginia April 18th.” Oh HELL for HAIL in Spring trying for Summer. In 2010, my March Spring was Autumn in Hermanus, South Africa when I stayed at Anchors Rest B&B. Obviously the bedroom, this small cottage also had a full kitchen, bath, living room, patio, and private yard.
My choice is a teaser for more Kofa Mountain shots over Easter weekend in the next post. BTW, there’s also a new video previewing the next camp after Kofa.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Oh wow Gaelyn, I am first at the top of your post and the first to comment. Whoohoo! I simply love the image of Marble View. And I always love photos of you as a littly. You seemed always ready to step forward. Thanks for sharing. My number for next week is 4110. Have a great day. Jo
I post the choices in the order comments come in, so you’ll be first again next week. Thanks. I was always on the run as a child, but my motion has slowed a bit over time. 😉 #4110 for next week.
Some magical photos of the Grand Canyon here but the picture of you with your hair on end has to be a winner 😉.. We hope that you have a good weekend, the weather here looks awful for the next week with lots more rain!! Also not very warm! Warm hugs though from us both, Diane and Nigel
Oops forgot the number for next week 2204 please. D
Got it.
Thanks. Mom usually kept my hair very short because of the flyaway. It cooled down for a few days, thank goodness. Stay warm and dry. #2204 for next week.
My fave is hard to pick today. River shoreline, Marble View & my pic all bring a great feeling of peace & connection with a place. And what a great picture for my #. I would love to share Grand Canyon with all my siblings but distances, finances, etc may make it impossible. There are 5 of us including me. Days 8, 17, 4. So more than one of us on some number(s). Lol…there’s a little puzzle to play with. Happy Earth Day Gaelyn! Next week #0506
Thanks. I like to connect to place and am glad a photo can capture that. Now you’ve set me another challenge. 😉 #0506 for next week.
My picture shows perfectly just where I’d prefer to be when it is hailing and raining and far too cold.
My favorites this week are the first one of the storm rolling in. I love to watch that happen here in my little valley in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I’d love it even better from your vantage point. I also love you running with your electric hair. What a cutie. And I especially love, that at least on my laptop where I always read your posts since doing it on a phone simply does not give your wonderful photographs the size they deserve, anyway….on my laptop little you off to explore is just to the left of grown up you with the great hat and the wry smile. Both are wonderful pictures. I’ll try 941 for next week please.
Bed is a perfect place to be in bad weather. Thanks. I’ll bet your storm views are awesome. How funny that the photos of me lined up like that. #941 for next week.
Hello Gaelyn, Friday’s seem to roll around pretty quick but I am always looking forward to reading your blog and seeing lovely photo’s and it’s always difficult to choose a fav. This week I love the photo of the morning view of the Vallecito Mountains and you as a little girl, also the Kofa Mountain shots. My favourite of course, is the North Rim Grand Canyon. No 4419 for next week please. Have a good weekend and stay healthy and safe.
I agree, weeks are flying by and already over 1/4 way through the year. Thank you for all the lovely compliments. #4419 for next week.
I admired the Anza-Borrego, finishing touch, Kofa, and A. Einstein hair day:) There’s something to me about being in desert and seeing snow capped mountains at same place/time. Enjoyed our visit. #6602. Route 66 in ’02.
Thanks. Certainly a sharp contrast to see snow from the desert. That was a very cold winter place to camp. Great to see you. #6602 for next week.
Another group of great pictures.let’s try 4579 for next week.
Thanks. #4579 for next week.
I am always shocked when I miss your Friday Photos! Things have been a bit strange!
Lovely amazing photos, as ever. #2134
I hope that’s not a bad strange. Thanks. #2134 for next week.
I’m loving all the phots and especially the Crazy Jug shot.
Next week is 5040 for me.
Thanks. I do love the drama of storms. #5040 for this week.
