This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by ten readers including a mix from South Africa, Utah, Arizona, Illinois and California.
Rita chose #4196. It’s not easy to see an elephant’s eye partially because they are not usually very close while on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa. But also because of their delightfully long eyelashes.
Jo chose #2834. More Jumping Cholla, this time seen in the Mojave Desert in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California.
Sallie and Bill chose #1033. If you’re ever in the area around Kanab, Utah visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Take a tour or volunteer time. This shot is looking down on one of the many animal cemeteries filled with wind-chimes.
Gypsy chose #19. Me at three and a half months old and my brother at seven. Taken in 1954, later scanned, in Hinsdale, Illinois where I was born.
Sue receives #26 for the number of words in her comment. A commissioned stained glass lamp made in 1980 in Illinois to hang in an entryway of a bi-level house. Not one of my favorite pieces.
Diane and Nigel chose #1803. Sunset over the Drakensberg Mountains from Monks Cowl camp in South Africa.
Cathy chose #1939. Zion National Park is in her backyard. On this visit with my ex-pat Serbian friend Pat we rode the shuttle up and down canyon and I shot the boon through an open roof vent.
Alan chose #9990. My RV view over Transept Canyon during a late April storm when I worked at the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park in 2015.
Doris chose #5219. Back to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for a February hike in Palm Canyon.
Sherry chose #3202, a panorama. She would love to hug this massive Yellow-wood tree I saw in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa in 2010. It would take all of us to reach around this big tree.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Please consider subscribing to the Geogypsytraveler YouTube channel, if you haven’t already. I’m trying to put up more videos but have been pretty busy lately moving to a new camp and getting ready to celebrate yet another birthday tomorrow with high school friend Sandee.
Great close-up of the elephants eye Gaelyn I love all photos of the Canyon also the one of you and your brother is quite touching. Fav this week Sunset over Dragensberg Mountains. Have a good weekend. No 9494 for next week please.
Thanks. I know you do love to see the canyon but those mountains are awesome too. #9494 for next week.
Transept would be my favorite this week as you could have likely guessed. Nice pictures of your past celebration with Sandee at South Rim. Happiest birthday wishes to you a day early!! Enjoy your birthday celebration again with your friend! Next week #8591
Thanks. I loved that canyon in many moods. Sandee is here in the desert and we started celebrating yesterday. #8591 for next week.
I shall look forward to new camp photos! Cheers #6565
I’m working on it. 😉 #6565 for next week.
I am a big tree/old growth Forrest fan and will travel hundreds of miles to view just one tree. Hence, the Yellow wood tree picture is my favorite. #9007 for next week please.
I just knew you’d be a tree huger like me. #9007 for next week.
I love especially the Transept Canyon shot.
7905 for next week.
Thanks. #7905 for next week.
My Colorado daughter-in-law used to work at Best Friends! So that was a fun choice for us (we’ve never visited though and I would still like to ). I really didn’t know about elephant eye-lashes!! Wow. I’ve only seen them in zoos and animal parks and those are sad to me, so I guess I hadn’t looked hard enough.
We cannot go further than saying our photo is our favourite, Wow, so many memories of trips to the Drakensburg are brought back by this photo. Even one of when we got lost out on a walk and we wondered if the hotel would send out a search party for us!! We did in fact wander eventually by a place that was vaguely recognisable and we got back before dinner was served!! I have to admit that we were starting to get more than a little worried!
We are out all day tomorrow, so we will wish you a very happy birthday now, have a fab day and so glad that you have Sandee to celebrate with. Cheers and have a good one.
Big hugs from us both Diane and Nigel.
2503 for next week please
I love when my photos evoke your memories. Of course the Drakensburg is hard to forget. But getting lost, even temporarily, isn’t so fun. You needed Jo’s son John as a guide like me. 😉 Enjoy your day as much as I will enjoy mine. Thank you for the birthday wishes. #2503 for next week.
Dear Gaelyn, I love that my choice brought up a photo of a desert plant. I love them. And LOVE you and your brother and the huge tree. And HOW ON EARTH did you get such a stunning photo of our beautiful Drakensberg peaks at sunset? Thank you for sharing. I’m scrolling up to have another look. Please give me 8882. HAPPY BIRTHDAY for this weekend. Jo
I’m seeing exclusively desert plants later and love them too. I might not have been at Monks Cowl if not for you and John. Thank you for the birthday wishes Jo. #8882 for next week.
Love Your Blogs & Photos! My number is 1313 for next week!
Thanks sweetie. And a special thanks for being here to help me celebrate. #1313 for next week, I promise.
I enjoy your pictures. How about number 1997, the year Cindy and I got married?
Thank you for the lovely compliment, and leaving a comment. #1997 for next week sounds good.
Hard for me to ignore an Anza Borrego photo, but the sunset is spectacular. For next week I’d like 9008 the distance in km the Netherlands ASRN rowing team traveled to compete in this weekends Crew Classic. Good Luck to ASRN.
Thanks. #9008 for next week and hope they do well.
I am struck by Drakensberg sunset with the rays going up far as can see. And me also for Transept Canyon! Probably the clouds and recent “ghost” trip feels ghostly to me. Do you know if the Yellow-wood tree appears yellow? #38> First Spring Cactus Wren observed yesterday!
I don’t know if the yellowwood is really yellow. Love hearing the song of the Cactus Wren here too. #38 for next week.
Wow those elephant lashes are really long. Great picture. I would for sure love to hug that tree and any tree in South Africa. Your brother and you are the same difference in age as mine and I are except that I’m the older. We’ll have to talk someday about what that was like. My favorite picture this week is the gorgeous one of the Transept Canyon. I’ll try #3278 for the month/day/and time I MUST have a reservation in Rainbow Springs State Park in Florida for NEXT winter. Sigh……………so ridiculous.
It’s hard to believe you’re already making reservations for next winter. Seven years is a big gap. #3278 for next week.
I guess I had better be sure to pick a number since 26 didn’t yield anything very spectacular. My favorite this time is the yellowood tree panorama. I have attemptedf similar shots of our redwoods. Spectacular. Lemme see……2622 for your day today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
My panoramas usually come out better than that one but it is hard to get those giant trees in one continuous shot. #2622 for this week.
