This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers including Grand Canyon, South African wildlife, flowers, and a taste of Mexico.
TreDuece chose #1371. As he seems to spend a lot of time “on the road” he’ll recognize that I do also. This is a drive-by shot, taken from SR89A, of a storm I was heading into over House Rock Valley and the Kaibab Plateau beyond. August monsoon 2010 in Arizona.
Cathy chose #5000. It is likely she’s watched International Hopi hoop-dancer Derek Suwaima-Davis at the North Rim Grand Canyon Heritage Days.
Diane and Nigel chose #1102. They saw Widforss Point from the North Rim Grand Lodge during a summer visit. This snowy view from 4-29-10, before the North Rim was open.
Rita chose #0374. Caught this Blackback Jackal just waking up while on a morning safari drive at Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa during my 2014 visit.
Jo chose #6900. One leaf of Purple Cranesbill showed a pop of September color along the Walhalla Plateau on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Susan chose #1937. An August monsoon morning put on quite a show over the Grand Canyon from the North Rim Grand Lodge verandah.
Sue chose #9812, “for the youngest daughter’s birthday.” Four days after my 60th birthday I watched this leopard in Pilanesberg Game Reserve, South Africa.
Alan gets #84 for the number of words in his last post. Been a lot of wind lately so this “Daisies in the Wind” seems appropriate. I taught and created stained glass in 1987 while living in Wenatchee, Washington were this shot was taken.
Sallie and Bill chose #6666, “Just to be different and because it doesn’t worry me.” I could only laugh when the oldest shot with that number, from 7-21-15, is the Paria Cemetery, a rather remote place with a long gone town in southern Utah. Note the colorful bentonite cliffs in the background.
Gypsy chose #4112, “April 1! stay in Patagonia’s Lucy & Desi Spartan long, long trailer.” The trailers, called caravans, are very different in South Africa. I don’t think people fill them with rocks. But if on the road early in Kruger National Park, you might have to avoid lions just waking up on the warm pavement, even after rain. Thus why we sometimes find scat on roads.
Jeff chose #43, “the total points scored in Super Bowl 56.” Not to be confused with this super bowl of a bay in Puerto Cito, Baja Mexico. I’m thinking nobody watched TV from there in January 2005.
Sherry chose #1623. Saw these brilliant orange flowers (maybe lilies) along the Sterkspruit Falls trail in the Drakensburg, South Africa.
Being the week of Valentine’s Day this shot seemed good. While living in my motorhome and selling at a flea market in Yucca Valley, California during Februray of 2003 a man I dated brought me flowers.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Made it on THE DAY OF. Amazing!! And FIRST?????
This week’s favorites for me are the hoop dancer – always so amazing, the snowy canyon view, the leopard and lions – SIGH! Very interesting tombstones in the cemetery. I’d love to see them in close up and in person. Love your smile surrounded by all those flowers. WOW – he must have been crazy for you! I’ll try 8367 for next week.
Congrats on being first. That man was crazy, period, and never did anything in a small way. He will remain the person who gave me the most flowers. #8367 for next week.
I really like the storm moving across the desert. They can be so intense for a short period of time. From San Felipe we’ve ventured down to Puertocitos many times – the rad is paved now!
California’s season lasts all year now. CalFire said in their briefing Airport Wildfire was 4136 acres yesterday, with evacuations east of 395 in Big Pine.
Thanks. Love monsoon season in the SW. I’ll bet that sleepy little place gets more traffic with a paved road. I have friends near that fire but on the west side so haven’t been evacuated, yet. Giving you #4136 for next week.
Such an array of some of my favorite things in pictures. From the “cats”, which I love in all sizes”, to the stormy Grand Canyon. The surprise this week was the beautiful stained glass you did. No space in your RVs to continue with that hobby. I would gladly accept flowers every day of my life. You started my day off in a wonderful mood. #1914 next week – the year my Mom was born.
Glad to accommodate. I gave up stained glass when moving aboard a 22′ sail boat and later worked with beads. Crafts are not so easy in small RV spaces. Nor dozens of bouquets. #1914 for next week.
love the tree photo I got this time. Especially cool since I was recently photographed standing by a similar tree. Different species but a bunch of trunks like this one. Not sure where I will be next time…Maybe at home? How about 2224 for our home arrival
Thanks. I love the synchronicity and thought of your recent shot when seeing this image. I need to read your next post to find out more. #2224 for next week.
Difficult, the monsoons were brilliant, then came the hoop dancer, but then my favourite all time animal the leopard appeared so that had to be shifted up to the top of the list. Last but not least was you sitting in a mass of flowers so you moved up next to the leopard. Also loved the stained glass. As usual a great set of photos.
1802 for next week please.
Hugs from us both, Nigel and Diane
Love my hoop dancer photo. Hope they have Heritage Days this year!! Very pretty stained glass artwork – “Daisies in the Wind”. Next week # 1939
Thanks. I suppose there’s been no celebrations the last few years. 🙁 #1939 for next week.
Thank you. We were lucky to watch that leopard for quite awhile with no body else around. #1802 for next week.
Hi Gaelyn. Breaking out of lurking mode, finally. When I clicked on your link to the “stained glass craft” I realized we now have a connection, kind of… We have a business in NW Ohio and are looking to retire soon. We’ve been looking for years and late last year we bought land SE of Tonasket. So I’ll for next weeks Foto Friday I’ll pick 1209 the date we closed on the land.
Thanks for commenting and congrats on your land purchase. I lived for many years in Grumbacker Estates south of Tonasket. Beautiful country. #1209 for next week.
Good gravy girl, that was one heck of a flower delivery! I don’t usually laugh when I see cemetery photos (honestly) but that was pretty funny that it turned up given “our” choice of #. and I do love those cliffs and the remoteness — ahh Utah! Fun to see the Mexico picture and always love the hoop dancers and Africa and Grand Canyon … and so on. Great memories. 2263 next week? My daughter’s birthday and age. How can that be possible?
Yup, he emptied the store, the day after Valentine’s. Still holds the record. 😀 #2263 for next week.
Wow yea crazy flowers:0 I heart my photo esp your trailer segway! lol. Love jackal, leopard, monsoon and layers of The Canyon:) And oh the cemetery. Always old cemeteries. #8012 Here’s to Curiosity, ours and it’s landing on our Moon.
Thanks for all the love, and your delightful curiosity. 😉 #8012 for next week.
Love all the photos but the August monsoon is my favorite. I’ve often thought I would like to take stained glass classes but have too many other projects so haven’t gotten to it yet. # 8930 next week.
Thanks. Stained glass is awesome fun yet requires some dedicated space and costly. Class is a good start. #8930 for next week.
Wonderful selection of photo’s Gaelyn especially the one of you in your camper surrounded with flowers, also the Hopi dancers. Fantastic one of the leopard at the Pilanseberg Nat Park but it’s going to be those majestic lions in Kruger National Park for my favourite. No 0391 for next week please,
Thanks. Lions are right up there next to elephants. #0391 for next week.
You have a grand selection here! I like the cemetery one! #2498
Thanks. I am not surprised being you like the quiet. #2498 for next week.
I especially love that first shot of the sky just falling into the desert during a rainstorm. We get lots of rain here generally but no sights like that.
You let that guy who bought you all those flowers go? That’s alright.
3598 for next week from random dot org.
Thanks, I love monsoon. You have incredible big skies. Yea, he was OCD about too many things. 😉 #3598 for this week.
I know time is moving just too fast when I see I’ve missed another Friday post! Alas all the pics are delightful. Love the one with all your valentine flowers – so cute!
5421 for next week please.
I feel the same way when it’s time to post for Friday, where did the week go. #5421 for this week.
Hi Gaelyn, I’ve been in the city for three days and glad to be home, The orange blooms look like Tecamaria. Please give me 4218 for next week. Have a great day. Jo
After one day in a city I’m glad to be home. Thanks for the photo ID. You live in such a gorgeous place. #4218 for this week.
