This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 14 readers including Grand Canyon, my old store front decorated for Christmas, little ole me, a hyena sound clip, and more snow.
Jo chose #2101. Looking upstream onto the Colorado River from Tuweep overlook, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Gypsy chose #2007, “for my cold stay in Churchill in Manitoba Canada…to see the great polar bears!” Except for the cold I would love to see Polar Bears but I don’t suspect you saw any Bolete mushrooms, like this one partially eaten along the Arizona trail on the north side of Grand Canyon.
TreDeuce chose #1364. A stormy day with faint rainbow looking over Saddle Mountain and across the Navajo reservation towards Echo Cliffs far to the east from Point Imperial overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona.
Jennifer chose #6764. Unidentified red flowers from a succulent seen along the Waterfall trail in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa.
Alan chose #2303. From the same Tuweep visit as first shot taken later in the day looking down stream.
Sallie and Bill got #73 for the number of words in their last comment. In 1985 my Washington craft store won Tonasket’s Christmas window decoration contest, so you get all three of the shots of the four windows telling the story of the Night Before Christmas.
Susan chose #1112, “my oldest daughter’s birthday.” I’m hoping the video will load. The sounds of hyena from my darkened tent in Satara camp Kruger National Park, South Africa. If not, it’s a sunset rainbow over the Vermilion Cliffs from an overlook along SR89A in the Kaibab National Forest, Arizona.
Cathy chose #4438. This sunset seen along Walker Bay in Hermanus, South Africa where I celebrated my 56th birthday.
Jeff chose #120, for the day Meat Loaf died. A sad loss. As was the loss of of 19 firefighters in the 2013 Yarnell Fire, when I lost all these goodies that decorated my old 5th-wheel.
Diane and Nigel chose #2201. The Gomphothere metal sculpture by Ricardo Breceda, along with other sculptures, can be seen around Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, California.
Doris chose #914. Looking north at the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument from SR89 in Utah.
Rita chose #9023. Lots of lava surrounds Sunset Crater in Arizona.
Sue gets #48 for the number of words in her last comment. A happy me at 1 1/2 years old in Hinsdale, Illinois 1955.
Sherry chose #4202. Along the coast of the Indian Ocean in Mossel Bay, South Africa the St Blaize Cave reveals evidence of people from the past. And now there’s a lighthouse on top.
Last week’s Foto Friday Fun I shared being snowbound near Mt St Helens. So this week, another four days snowbound at Oregon Caves National Monument during January 2004 as a winter volunteer.
After four days of constant snow I wasn’t going anywhere in either the motorhome or truck. Then DOT showed up and plowed.
Beautiful and buried, the Grand Lodge and visitor center/Chalet. I don’t remember how many inches.
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Thanks for the memories
Oh our photo is fantastic, we love it. we do though love the young you, but as ever a great series of photos.
The plant is Cotyledon orbiculata also known as Pig’s Ear, apparently to do with the shape of the leaves.
We had a light sprinkle of snow yesterday but it never settled. Now the rain has returned and it has warmed up a bit. Yesterday was -5C (23F) with a max of 3C (37F) not my favourite weather!!!
Keep warm hugs from us both Diane and Nigel
Ooops 2801 for next week please. D & N
Thanks for the plant ID. Well I have wind that wants to blow me to Mexico but no snow, yikes. #2801 for next week. Stay warm.
Hi Gaelyn, Thanks for the lovely photos of the Canyon . That is such a nice one of you age l and
1/2 years old. Sorry you lost your collection during the Yarnell fire.My fav for this week is your Washington Crafts Store. Glad you won the contest No 7702 for next week please. Stay safe and have a great weekend.
You’re welcome, and thanks for your lovely comment. I actually won that contest four years in a row. #7702 for next week.
Love all the photos but the Walker Bay really spoke to me. The snow shots made me glad I was not there!!
5374 next week
Thanks. Glad for no snow here either, however, the wind is about to blow me to Mexico. #5374 for next week.
Whoo hoo! I know the id of the succulent: Cotelydon Orbiculata! They were prolific in my Free State garden and the sunbirds loved them. Uh-oh I see Diane beat me to it! Ok so my contribution about the plant: cotyledons are first leaves which are not true leaves but rather seed leaves. My favorite photo is of you. Too precious. My number for next week is 6938 Have a great week. Jo
Thanks. I love to know more about those Pig’s Ears. They are much like our Jade plant which doesn’t flower often. #6938 for next week.
The Yarnell Fire … So very tragic.
Enjoy your pictures of the Canyon and the snow. Glad not to be in the snow, but would sure like to be at the Tuweep vista!
For next week I’ll take 9;15 the time SDG&E shut off the power for maintenance.
Thanks. I’d be happy never living in snow again. Pretty to look at on a mountain, from down below. #915 for next week. Hope they also turned the power back on.
Love the sharp close focus with the canyon more muted in the background on the first shot in this post. Very nicely done. In contrast the sharp colors of Saddle mountain under the dark clouds is also wonderful.
You have done so many different things in your life. Those windows in your shop are great and definitely deserve a prize. Happy you is right. What a cutie!
We’ve had snow after snow IN VIRGINIA this year. It’s snowing now actually. Being snowed in is OK if you have everything you need and don’t lose power or have wood or gas heat for hot water, cooking and warmth. It’s definitely beautiful as your pictures show. Everything slows down and becomes quiet which I really love. I’ll try #9501 for next week.
Thanks. I didn’t mind snow so much in my younger years, but no thanks now. Stay warm. #9501 for next week.
Your Sunrise Kofa Mtns is quite beautiful. My favorite is the stormy Saddle Mtn. So much energy! Very creative window displays. Congrats on the multi year wins! Has been VERY windy here but today was actually quite pleasant; always warmer with NO wind. Next week 6932
Thanks, hard to beat those mt sunrises, or stormy skies. Windy in the desert yesterday made the 63° feel more like 53°. #6932 for next week.
Gaelyn, Okay gotta long one here. I know I’m all over place here, but just when I think seen the most variety and brilliance. I love my ‘shroom:) And the “stormy day” shot after, what color and drama deserving own calendar if not already, and also coincident a different Saddle Mt than next one heading to. I love that the plant got ID and learned about pig ear. I thought I’d seen, taken pic every Borrego Springs sculpture, but missed that one, so thanks. Of course you storytell,.even windows, and cute lil’ button you. More snow just shivers like, The Shining. Lastly, seeing and remembering tragic losses in 2013, and your rocks’ metamorphism. Hot Patootie Bless My Soul indeed. (For those seen Meatloaf in RHPS) Must switch from my travel-led picks, to #1177, 3rd time “it’s just a jump to the left” showtime. Thx for the memories.
Thanks. Google “Saddle Mt” and you’ll see a lot about NV. I don’t think I’ve seen all the sculptures even with several visits. I absolutely love when my South African friends can ID plants for me. NO more snow. #1177 for next week.
A day late getting to my email. Since I have never heard a noise from Hyena, I did find it different from what I thought they made. Certainly didn’t sound like laughing. I always enjoy pictures of the Grand Canyon. My favorites , no doubts, are your store in Tonasket and a little girl that was 1-1/2 years old. The next time I get a little north, I would like to see if the store still exists. I found my new word for today in your post. “Gomphothere”. Goggle, here I come. Yesterday’s word was “spuddle”. #1963 for nest week.
Thank you. I’d be curious if the store front along main in Tonasket is still there. Please take a pic if you get there. I didn’t sell the business just closed. Now I have to look up “spuddle”. #1963 for this week.
Pretty sure I got the cutest photo of you as a little one. What a great smile. I also had no clue what hyenas sounded like, but certainly didn’t expect that. Loving the Grand Canyon photos is the morning light…or was it late afternoon. Either way, it was wonderful. I am enjoying watching the morning light on the distant mountains north of us lately. The fog has lifted for a bit, so when the sun rises slowly I can watch the shadows change on those mountains or maybe they are simply hills. Either way, I love watching that shift. Amazing how boring it all gets in mid day light. Ok…..gotta come up with a number….why is this always such a challenge?? 9126 9 to give me a later photo, and 1/26 for my eldest daughter’s birthday
Thanks, that is one of more favorite kid photos. Canyon photos range from morning to evening. Light on mountains is spectacular. Watching on the Saddle Mts. #9126 for this week.
I’m so sorry I’ve been playing Foto Friday so poorly lately. In case I am not too late I will choose 1225 for this week (because of the Christmas windows you gave us this time!). You have so many talents. I do like tthose winter picture better than the snowed in caves (as a place I’d like to be, they are all good pictures of course). Love all of this collection — you were a little doll in that baby picture!
I am just grateful you play at all. Thanks for that and all your lovely comments. #1225 for this week.
