This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers including deserts, South African wildlife, and where I am for the last post of 2021.
Jo chose #8090, a panorama. An animal she is familiar with and my favorite seen at Addo Elephant National Park.
Cathy chose #8888. Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park is appropriately named. Only one hour from Las Vegas, go if you can.
Doris chose #4011. While on safari in Kruger National Park I especially enjoy seeing stripes and dots more than one species together.
Jodee and Bill chose #1149. Me taking photos at Bryce Canyon National Park in 2007, twelve years before I worked there.
Gypsy chose #2009. During a summer visit to Zion National Park I caught the last light on canyon walls.
Jeff chose #2022 for our next year on this Earth. Looking at the Colorado River upstream from Toroweap overlook Grand Canyon National Park at sunset I saw the colors of Earth’s shadow.
Jennifer gets #22 for the number of words in her last comment. Twelve years after the 1980 eruption of Mt St Helens growth was still sparse near the volcano as can be seen from the scientist lead “Crater Walk” I joined during my summer of 1992 season.
Alan and random dot org chose #4261. Freyas Castle points above the distant Colorado River (center) seen from Cape Royal overlook on the North Rim Grand Canyon National Park.
Sallie and Bill chose #1122. The spiny Prickly Pear Cactus produces brilliant flowers in Spring seen at Lee’s Ferry.
Diane and Nigel chose #2612. A neighborhood chicken passing through an empty campsite when I lived at Crazy Horse RV Park in Kanab, Utah.
Sue chose #1946, “when I was about 7 months old.” At seven months I might still have been curling up sort of like this 1”, “rolly-polly” worm-like insect (she’s probably seen them playing the soil all her life) that I saw on my hike in the Drakensburg Mountains—and other places—in South Africa.
I moved camp yesterday and this is from the first afternoon at my new camp—not such a new location or sight. Where am I?
Thank you for playing along with Foto Friday Fun which allows me to share these photographs and memories. For more of the story just follow the links. Please join in next week by leaving a number between 0001 and 9999 in your comment.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Happy Next Year!
Can’t believe I got a photo of a pill bug! Of course, we had them around all the time in my SoCal childhood. More rare here it seems. Loved that first pano of the elephants. Happy New Year, your first in full retirement! I will try a bit higher this time how about 9149
Not all my pics are pretty landscapes. I couldn’t remember what that bug was called but knew you would know. I will enter 2022 looking at some of my favorite AZ mts, dancing in clouds. #9149 for next year.
Where is the GeoGypsy.
Kind of looks like the Kofa’s. Castle dome?
I always forget to include a number, so how about doing this. Start with 1357 and for next time add the number ‘3’ to 1357. And three again to that result for all the next times going forward. Example. 1357 _1360 _ 1363 _ 1366 _1369. Should make for an interesting set of pics.
I will be going by where you might be on the 14th/15th. I-10 out of Sun City West to hwy-72 or 95 to Parker.
Stay warm. AL
You’re close and will be closer. No guarantee I’ll remember to give you numbers, we’ll see. For next week it will be #1357.
And Happy New Year to You!!
I love that elephant shot, the thought of seeing so many together, wild is amazing.
Random dot org says 5788 for next week.
The elephant herds are quite large in Addo and loners are usually young bulls. It is an amazing sight I could watch for the rest of my life. #5788 for next year.
Of course I love Freyas Castle and the blooming prickly pear. I’m not sure where you are but it’s a beautiful location for the start to a Happy Adventurous New Year! Next time #5891
Thanks. #5891 for next year.
Yes, first felt amazing were seeing so many elephants together. Must have been glorious. I was intrigued by the insect. Did look like a worm shape, but laying on something rather shiny? I used to play with slugs, pill+ bugs, garter snakes, etc. Oh, I loved my choice, and the scene at Crazy Horse…with park, cemetery (cause I enjoy them) and chicken! Ha. I won’t say from photo where you are, I already know:) Happy New Year and 2022. #4214 please, time spent in the deep south after Hurricane Katrina.
Love your last shot of the Kofa Mountains, it is beautiful and our favourite. That empty campsite looks like a very peaceful cemetery! As ever, a lovely set of photos. Happy New Year to you and may 2022 be kinder to all of us, Take care and keep safe. Hug Diane and Nigel
Thanks. I took way more pics of those mountains today wearing a cloud hat. Living next to the cemetery is what made Kanab a doable and quiet place. I’m giving you #3112 for next week.
Of course I like my choice, since it’s from Toroweap! But they’re all good. I also like your choice from your new site in PC! Is that close?
The Sierra will close the year with the water content in its snowpack is 167% of normal. We all could sure use that water!
Thanks. I’ll tease you to Toroweap one of these days. PC it is. Oh how we need that snowpack. #167 for next year.
Love the chicken strolling across the campsite and the cemetery behind it !!! 3789 for next week please.
Thanks. That RV park in Kanab was a pretty quiet place. #3789 for this week.
My favorite…the elephants, the chicken came in second. I could watch chickens all day, they can be so comical. Happy New Year, looking forward to a better 2022. #1110 for next week please.
I could watch elephants all day but I’ve never had the chance to watch chickens with regularity. #1110 for this week.
Apparently I did it again, missed last week. SIGH! Of course I have no clue where you’ve moved to but that is a fantastic view. Love the elephants and the giraffes and you with the lovely watch on your arm. Fine picture, who took it. Love the view from Toroweap and of Freyas Castle. Like always, it isn’t possible to pick just one. Happiest of new years to you. #1222 for next week please.
Thanks. Mike (old partner) took the shot of me at Bryce. #1222 for this week. May this year bring you joy!
I love all your photos, which is why Deja Knows your calendar is Always a Great Christmas gift! 8*)
Those Zebras and Giraffes sure look like they are Happy! May I have stripes and spots for next week, 1010 please?
Thanks. Glad to hear you like this year’s calendar. Stripes and spots for you next week with #1010.
